RTS-4 ArmA Released

Ouch...was playin y'day in a game and i ended up with 60+ bots and i think was about 15 t72s that mysteriously were given to me.Hack i never seen before.

Immediately got them when you had none, or you joined a game in progress and found yourself with all those units?

I ask because if someone quits the game while their AI is out there, then the next person who joins in the same slot gets that same AI. That's good for anyone who gets disconnected and can get back in before someone takes their slot, without losing the AI they've set up.

Nah...they were given to me during game.I pretty sure i know who was doing it...2 guys were Tk a lot of our stuff so i ran them down in t72..then this happened.

I heard someone talking about the commander being able to build unlimited amount of men for a particular player... is this true?

I've been commander plenty of times and its a great thing you can build 64 ais for your squads. Usually I select someone to defend Paraiso Airbase and build full 64 ai squad for him. It doesn't lag the server or anything. Rest of the people tend not to have AIs in their squad and go soloing.

How to build 63 AIs for someone as commander:

Your own squad can't be full when you add units to the player. RTS4 calculates YOUR (commander) squadsize.  pistols.gif

What I find more annoying is people who at start steal A10/Harrier/Su from Rahmadi Island. Those planes should be locked or something...  crazy_o.gif

Any chance of a version of this using the new cex command engine thats just come out it would be fantastic to have that much contoll over deployed troops in rts4

Hmm forgot about those planes on that island.  Those are there simply to load the textures in memory so you don't get a "downloadable content" error.  I'll lock 'em and add a delete script.

1.11e just has some very minor fixes, but nothing major.

I'm not familiar with the cex engine, but I'll try to take a look at it when I have some time.

Have there been many problems lately with people running disableuserinput hacks, etc?  I've gotten complaints that a few script-kiddies were ruining things.

yeah there is alot of crap going on in the server. i havent been in a single game thats run smoothly (without any interference) for about 6 weeks now. :/

its hackers, lamers and other idiots who keep ruining the game for others... there needs to be permanent admins on site more often to sort these problems out. :/

dead lock by group dynamics maybe?

i think the problem is that noone wants to make a start. everyone is looking out for a decently filled server to join instead of starting a game themselves.

that's my theory because everytime i started a game and waited for a couple of minutes people began gradually to drop in and after some more minutes we had enough people on. so its not dead, people are just very, very lazy.

it just takes one volunteer to get games started in order to get it through server listing filters and then also people using tools like arma launcher get their notification...

well i used to play this loads but there where too many cheats hacks etc its a real shame.

Also i think the mission could do with some sort of quick start mode where each side starts with so many flags capped so you dont have to do all the truckin everytime you start.

KP-CTI may be an alternative... it's quite similar to RTS and IMHO the best CTI out there at the moment.

Any mission where you have to work a lot to get to a point... and then having the cheater losers come in really hurts. If it's just a DM or CTF game where a restart could make everything good... unfortunately RTS and Evolution maps cater to the "long running mission".. Actually I shouldn't say unfortunately... I prefer this way.

Maybe life will be good again once 1.09 is released.

1.09? Haven't heard about it.. with their work on ArmA 2 I haven't been sure they'd even release any more patches.

I've stayed away from the game for a while to recharge my attraction to it...if 1.09 does come out I'll definitely come back in.

Is there a way to make it voteable by the users to switch the server over to valid CD keys only if there is bad hacking/griefing going on? For that round only? It is the anonymous pirates that can 'get away' with what they do. If the cheating/hacking/griefing continues after the valid CD key requirement, it would be very easy for the good users on the system to make note of that person's ID and we can ask you or Victor or someone else to ban that person. I don't think anyone would want to waste their $40's ability to play on your server in that case.

It's hard to ban pirates since they can reinstall for a new ID and come back... so at least this way we can slam the doors shut during a MyG0t attack for example [they tend to come in swarms, attracted to us when we have so many players and are on the top of the list of servers].

It shouldn't be hard to vote for it (ie: requiring 80% to vote-- it should be like 25%)...

Any problems with that? If not anything that is similar to that would help empower users to fight back against the anonymous griefers.

I looked at several methods for keeping script-kiddies off the server, but most of them would severely reduce the number of people who would see the server in the browser, and thus the number who would play.

I don't think it's fun to have any map, whether it be CTF, CH, RTS or CTI disrupted by children who think it's fun to wreak havoc on a server with scripts they download from people who couldn't win in a fair match even if the other player was blindfolded.

I put a lot of time into RTS and other mapmakers spend hours on theirs so it's a shame we don't have better tools to combat this without destroying the flexibility that the game engine provides.

Anyway, I've been keeping half an eye on the server, even if I don't play ArmA much at the moment.  Hopefully 1.09 will have some good common sense approaches to giving administrators a lot more control over who they allow on the server, and what mods/scripts they allow on the server.

I presume that meant there's no way for the users to vote to switch to valid CD keys only (meaning-- the right number of digits in the USERID, instead of those long numerals that are clearly created by a pirate keygen?)

By the way has anyone seen any info that indicates there will be a 1.09? I haven't seen any...

Ya its a bummer. Its been a few days since i played on yer server, got on and started playin an rts. Just got to the real battling after about an hour and a half and here comes some jerk and starts blowing everything up and building some stupid sandbag building to the heavens. banghead.gif  I hope something gets done to help stop it all.

Tonight on yer server my name looked like this for some reason PatrickHenry []...had these arrays after my name? Do you know if my xml would do that for some reason?

It's quite possible that if your XML is not working, then you'll have only brackets after your name.

What version of RTS were you playing when the guy came in and starting making sandbag towers? 1.11d or 1.11e?

I was playing north 1.11e i believe. As for the brackets i dont know whats up my xml logo was appearing on my vehicals, but still had them. Im using armatechs squadhoster, im trying to find from him whats up.

Yeah i believe if u dont fill in the name of the squad in the XML file (usually you get something like Jack-UK [ClanName]) you end up with something like Jack-UK []
