NovaPhoenix 0 Posted March 15, 2007 Just bought AA here in melbourne Australia, box and all I installed it, did a quick test run to find out it was 1.04, saw the menu and such before closing it. I would then go and start downloading the 500mb+ international 1.5 patch for the game to. After ages downloading that and installing that, I go to run the game and I get the following error messsage. A required security module cannot be activated. This program cannot be executed (5024). Please have a look at http://www.securom.com/message.asp?m=module&c=5024 for further, more detailed information. Heres my specs Win 2000 SP4 (LEGIT!!!!!! ) Radeon X1950 Pro, Cat 6.12 drivers 1Gig Memory SoundBlaster Audigy 2 sound card DVD Rom = "TSSTcorpDVD-ROM TS-H352A" Â (got that info off PC Wizard) So yeah, not happy at all with this. W0lle 1042 Posted March 15, 2007 I recommend you read this topic. This error you get when Securom detects "not allowed" software or drivers on your system. Like Virtual Drives, tools for hiding them (YASU), or debugging tools. Process Explorer by Sysinternal (now Microsoft) is such a tool which is on Securoms "Blacklist". W0lle 1042 Posted March 15, 2007 According to Securom Devs shutting down Process Explorer isn't enough as the .dll files are still in memory once it has been started. You need to make sure that Process Explorer isn't started at all before you launch ArmA. cooee 0 Posted March 15, 2007 What a croc this is. I'm in Melb also, my DVD hates this game. Sometimes it loads straight away, other times it may take me 10 goes. Seems a few of us Aussies are having the same problem, i've read this forum from front to back and done a few things, but alas it's one of those "put up with it" scenarios. I guess I'll give it a go, I only run process explorer when something is "not responding".. I'm still using 1.4, I'll try installing 1.5, then run it and make sure process explorer aint runnin' .. W0lle 1042 Posted March 16, 2007 A fellow moderator in the official german ArmA Forum has sent many emails to Securom/Sony because of the problems with Process Explorer and yes, Securom confirmed that ProcExp prevents ArmA from starting once the application is/was loaded. If you already got the 1.04 version you should use the 505 patch wich is about 150 MB in size, not the huge one that transports 1.02 versions to Version 1.05. You simply installed the wrong patch. Is there any word on whether SecuROM/Sony will be able to fix this? Or is this going to be the nature of SecuROM from now on? I know that the copy protection has had issue with the File/Registry Monitor programs from the same guys, and they asked people to let them know if it ever targeted Process Explorer, which now someone has. Unfortunately now those forums are locked thanks to spam so I can't bump that post. Going without Process Explorer on my system is like operating with a finger missing. Its primary residence is on a portion of my second display, sometimes full-screen on it, since I'm routinely tweaking something on my system performance-wise and monitoring how system processes are behaving. I fear that's why it there are now issues, in that the user has too much information about what's going on... Like the poster in the second thread I linked above, it's amazing that official Microsoft programs are now attacked by SecuROM. I could almost believe that the console wars are spreading to the PC, and Sony is getting revenge on Microsoft for the PS3 doing poorly in a roundabout and sadistic manner. It would be interesting to hear if it has been tried out in court if such companies should be allowed, without approval from the owner of the computer, to control what other processes run in a user's computer, and if yes then what are the justifications. In my opinion such behaviour should go through a court ruling, I find such behaviour highly intrusive and most of all, inconvenient for the many users. Key Dutch 0 Posted April 1, 2007 well, as long i cant see respond, i guess u did not read it. well if u think licens and agreemet ints juts part of installation, u wrong. b4 press "im agree" read the terms and condition.by all acounts , u should read it ever time when u install any new program, full terms, then  probably , no one will post that kind of  messages. unlikely u would put ur signature on contract/agreement (in real life) b4 reading full terms of conntract/agreement. so my freind b4 post anything, think what u posting. When you install just about form of software you are asked to agree to stuff like anti cheat technology and piracy technology may be installed on your PC. If you click yes then you agree and also agree not to hack the game and use "nocd" technology to run the game. IF you want to run arma without a cd then buy the sprocket version. StormbringerGT 0 Posted May 18, 2007 Well here is the kick in the balls, if you read the eula and decide to exercise that choice and not accept it, then it doesnt install. Fine. However you are still stuck with a game that you cannot install or play or choose not to install or play, because when you buy it there is not eula and nowhere on the box does it say: "Requires process explorer not to be running" Im not picking on this game, just the general scenario and in response to the guy who says not at accept the EULA.
