I continually get this error, after recieving files on multiplayer screen, the grey load bar then says shutdown, and when on desktop this error signature appears:

This is exactley the same error apart from the version numbers that affected the last week of my use of 1.02, it basically makes multiplayer a waste of time, does anyone have any clue as to what is causing this, be it a fault on my machine or an inbuilt bug with the game, cos whatever it is,it is really starting to piss me off. Any help would be truly appreciated.

My system specs are as follows:

Asus A7N8X-E Deluxe

Athlon 3000+

Radeon X1950 PRO 512mb

1.5 gig of ram.

Did you try re-installing the game, and apply the 1.02 patch again ?

If you're using the onboard lan of that Asus A7N8X-E Deluxe, you can try to use a seperate network interface card, for me it solved all my online problems.

You can also check out what your arma.rpt says (and post it here), you can find it here: YourWindowsDrive:\Documents and Settings\YourUserName\Local Settings\Application Data\ArmA

there you should find the errors your ArmA generated (it can go into the megabytes because of faulty mp missions and such). You should find find the latest things that happened at the end, if it's too big and messy, you can also delete it (or rename it), start arma and make the error appear and check it again.

Desrtfox, I did a complete uninstall tonight , registry cleaned it the lot, then reinstalled the game 1.04 , it ran like adream for two hours then i got the same error.

I have had a tip from a guy who suffered the same errors and he recommended updating the openAL dll that was shipped with the game as it was out of date, this i have done , but it is now silly o' clock i will ytest it and give you the results tomorrow.

oh, yes, SB Live, I've got one of those too. Some things you can also do with it: Turning off EAX and Hardware Acceleration ingame for it and turn off Hardware Acceleration in the Windows settings too (I can give you the location if you don't find it).

My Card used to give me strange sounding upward sweeps and probably other problems too till I did that.

When updating OpenAL32.dll you might want to go to C:\WINDOWS\system32 and delete (read: backup) it manually and then update it, at least I've read that here in the forums, well, it shouldn't harm.

The fix for the problem you describe is not really a fix

Well it solves your problem of having connection issues of coarse, but you do not need to buy a card

(The below is also a possible fix for the problem of the topic creater)

Usually if you install the Nvidia Chipset Drivers, you also install the Network Access Manager (or something similair), this enables the firewall of your nvidia network controller and this little brat usually is the source of all connection problems, may it be the lack of configuration by user, or may it be troubling software... Your choice to configure or uninstall it and try again

The crashes in ArmA around multiplayer are usually caused by Firewall software interfeiring with the game, please check any kind of firewall software, suite, hardware, whatsoever, and make sure ArmA is allowed for outgoing aswell as incoming connections.

If the crash only occurs while receiving of missions, please make sure you are running the game as Administrator and that the MPMissions Cache folder is writable.

This folder is usually available in the folder: %userprofile%\local settings\Application Data\ArmA

(if you enter this in the explorer or at start->run, it should bring you into the correct folder)

I'm one of those guys that always has at least 3 unused NICs laying around, that may affect my way of solving such problems immensely.

From what I've seen it looked like it tried to download the missions but somehow not completely. When trying to run it, it produced a access violation because parts simply were not there and the game crashed. May be totally wrong (checksums and such), but at least the temporary "solution" worked fine.

Now it's probably time to get rid of that "Network Access Manager", on the other side I kinda feel safer now with onboard LAN deactivated in the bios.

What soundcard do you have?

If you arent using onboard sound Desertfox seems to have solved some peoples problems by telling them to disable onboard sound in the bios (only if you have a soundcard and not JUST onboard sound)

If you have an XFI set it to GAME MODE.

I have Sound Blaster live, will check now to see if the ac97 is disabled in bios.
