Hello, i could need some advice concerning upgrading my Pc.

I run ArmA on the following system:

3,2 Ghz Athlon (socket 939)

2048Mb Ram (2*1024 "MDT Platinum")

Geforce 6800GT 256mb (Agp)

It runs... well "ok" on 1152*768 with medium settings and low view distance.

I want to upgrade my Pc for a better ArmA gaming-experience and wondering, in what piece of hardware to invest - Graphic Card or Cpu - or both?

Thanx in advance smile_o.gif

I guess that's not GHz, but "rating", i.e. "3200".

Quote[/b] ]in what piece of hardware to invest - Graphic Card or Cpu - or both?

You definitely could have higher graphics settings with a more modern higher-level video card like X1950 pro. And you could overclock your CPU or buy a new one, so you would have better FPS online and offline with many dynamic objects on map.

But if you've got enough money, think of moving to AM2 or Conroe, or at least 939+PCI-E (could save your CPU for now). It would not limit you in upgrading your video further. Higher-level AGP video cards are likely to disappear soon.

So my opinion - there's an option to change your video+mobo first.

GFX: GE-Force 8800 GTS 640mb

Im gonna keep my existing CPU which is a P4 3.6Ghz..

How much more optimized is the retail game (specifically Sprocket) than the demo? The line between Armed Assault looking good and looking bad is thin, and I just barely make it over. My fps is in the 20's most of the time. It's not noticeable, but will the retail version at least bring me up to the 30's?

And is BIS continuing to try and optimize the engine, or has that been done and forgotten?

Depending on your computer configuration you should be able to get at least 30fps in 1.05. But, this game is not the kinda that runs at 100 fps.  confused_o.gif

No, you are wrong.

My friend has a AMD FX62, a dualcore that is much faster than what that P4@3.6 will ever be. He also has the 8800GTX, wich indeed is faster than the 8800GTS. He still have problems running the game in higher settings - even though both me and him have found half-decent settings to play on.

So there is no need to puke or grow up - that is an valid question and to answer him in a proper way;

Opticalsnare:

The game should work at 1280X1024, most settings at high/veryhigh. But be very careful when changing Shadows, Shaders and AntiAliasing as these three settings together drags down performance in forrests by ALOT and gives unplayable amounts of mounse lag when you use "zoom". Good luck.

Hi there!

Im running Arma 1.05 on Vista x64 now, and having some real issues here  banghead.gif ..

Before i bought this gfx card, i was told i could put all games on max graphics. heh

I have a nvidia 570 8800 gtx card with x64 drivers installed.

When i put graphic on max i get graphics that would ashame a Commodore 64..  crazy_o.gif

Whats wrong, is it Vista, or 64 bits. or simply lousy config of the 3d settings??

Been waiting looong time for this game, and even upgraded my PC for it. Now i sit here and look at this ridicilous graphic and dont know what to do...

Cant even turn it back on default settings anymore. still 'Commodore64' graphics showing... Like omg, pls help!!

Ill be in ever debt if someone can explain whats wrong  notworthy.gif

I have Vista 32 also with a 8800GTX (BFG)...

I have the 1.05 update and the 100.65 nvidia drivers and I see what you see, max out the settings and you get all sorts of wierdness...

I chose the default Very High (which appears to set most things to simply High) view distance of 3015 and my screen resolution to 1900x1080 and all appears to work much better...

I am going to experiment tonight with maxed out graphics settings and a small view distances and see how that goes...

But I am seeing much the same so it is either vista or possibly the vista drivers...

(I know it did not say Vista on the box so I am not really complaining)...

I might also tyr running it in XP compatability modes too...

after 34 years (well not really, say 24) of crappy pc's im slowly buying this for ArmA (lets not forget IL2, SHIII (minus starforce) and MTWII)

CPU: Intel Duo E6600

2X 1GB Kingston DDR2 800 Mhz HyperX

PSU: LC-Power Arkangel 850W

2X Seagate 320 GB 16MB 7200rpm SATA II

1X XFX GeForce 8800 GTX XXX Extreme Edition

19" BenQ FP93GX (1280 x 1024) 2ms

Mobo: MSI P975X Platinum Powerup edition

Creative Soundblaster XFI Xtreme Gamer FPS

NZXT Zero box (lots of low rpm fans)

it will run XP SP2 until DX10 is out, and Vista stops being absolute crap

im sure to overclock it slightly as the intel duo can reach ridiculous speeds

now...

will my dick grow bigger? no

will i pull more chicks? no

will i have an extremely expensive pc which ill have to pay over months, and cut down on lots of comodities? yes

will i have a noisy pc? yes, headphones will be handy, either that or some extra silent fans...or...i could sell my prized hamster and buy a zalman liquid cooling kit

will it play Arma?huh.gif dunno, im buying the game this week, but it better run it like a dream.

From what ive seen you'll have tha same LOD and foileage problems as everyone else. Plus fogging problems from the 8800.

Itll be sweet for other games though wink_o.gif

im getting very bizarre results.. no matter what I set anything to fraps shows me at 30FPS.. 800x600 with everything on low gives me the same FPS as 1024x768 with everything on high..

the ONLY thing I get any change from is post processing.. which drops my FPS by 10.. regardless of other settings or anything else it always drops me to 20..

Try to switch off VSync in you driver settings. With VSync On and 60 Hz refreshrate you get only 60 HZ or 1/2, 1/3, 1/4, etc. from 60 Hz.
