Targetting

Recommended Posts

I have two questions about weapon targetting problems. First of all during some missions my weapons are so dam inaccurate, i can have the enemy locked straight into the middile of my sights from any range, and the rounds will just fly right past him and hit nothing but the floor, this is really goddam aggravating, especially on harder missions such as "Rage" during the Red Hammer campaign, it makes it virtually impossible to complete as i run out of ammo while trying to take out one loosey sentry, can this please be fixed because it REALLY lets down the game.

Secondly, when i first purchased the game, before installing any patches or anything, i played the campaign and came to the "Air Assualt" mission where you fly an AH-1 Cobra to give air support to the Zulu tank platoon, to liberate st pierre, anyway for some reason the tab key is not allowing me to target aerial units such as the Mi24 Hind in the area, meaning i have to manually right click it during flight in order to get a lock on which is not very easy when the thing is moving past you. Anyway, when i get a lock i can fire a TOW to take down the hind, though after i upgraded the game using the gold edition upgrade, immediately followed by the 1.42 patch, i find that in the same mission the Cobra is replaced by an Apache, ordinarilly this is fine as it is a more advanced chopper, but with this unit i can't right click to get a lock on anything thats flying, it literally wont let me target a dam thing in the air with anything other than the 30mm cannon. why? what was the point in removing the ability of using missiles against air units? can this also please be corrected, and/or restore that mission to its original for of using a Cobra instead of the Apache?

Oh yeah one more thing, i also played through the Ground Attack 2 level where you fly an Apache, destroyed the ZSU, shot down the hind (with great difficulty, it meant switching to manual fire and taking pot shots with FFARs and Hellfires, no easy task), anway after wards i was left to deal with the SU25 Frogfoot, i successfully dodged all its fire, and it dodged all mine, so i figured that it would be a long drawn out aerial conflict. Was i ever mistaken. You can really imagine my shock and surprise when i saw the cosey prat turn around and fly straight for me on a collision course, even more shocking when the enemy pilot didn't bother to move out of the way, instead proceeding to slam his SU25 into the front of my Apache at 300mph, causing us both to explode in mid air and then sink into the ocean. So im just wondering, did you intetionally program the enemy pilots to be suicidal?

I think they disabled targeting air vehicles with anything other than 30mm in some early patch. Myself, I'd like to see some AAMs such as the sidewinder.

Oh, and flexible loadouts...

That sucks! I thought the point of OFP was to be like a realistic battlefield (apart from the fact that you can put a bullet between someones eyes with an M16 or AK47 from 500M away for some strange reason), and in a similar situation of aerial combat planes and gunships WILL fire missiles at their enemy. What do you think in like all the movies like top gun where they were flying the F-16s and F-18s that when they got a lock on target that they only launched bullets at them? No, they fired a missile up his ass and turned his ass into fertilizer. So whats the point in removing missile targetting and engagin for aerial combat? oh yeah one more thing why did that dam eneym SU25 slam his jet into the front of my chopper at max speed? i mean what did he just decide that since he was out of ammo it was the next best thing to a missile? was a manic depressive (though to have a manic depressive character personality in a gae like OFP would be very cool), did he get demoted, knocked up his girlfriend? but even funnier than this, was the next time i attempted the mission again, sam situation, wasted the convoy, shot down the hind with a pot shot missile on manual fire, and only leaving me and the SU25. sure enough the pilot attempted another collision course with my chopper, at that speed there was no possible way i could jink/fly/climb or dive outta the way in time. so i instead tried a very risky move. i deliberatley stalled my engine, when i saw that the plane was coming at me i was at maximum possible altitude for the chopper, at the last second i swtiched off my engine, and immediately switched it back on again which stalled my engine for a couple of seconds, enough to fall down outta the way of the suicidal pilot, the engine just kicked back in again, in time to just miss slamming into the floor. not a move i would attempt again though unless i had to, anway the enemy pilot must have just decided that he couldn't go on anymore or somethin, because instead of turning around to come at me again, he instead proceeded to keep flying forwards and crash his plane into the side of a cliff. why? what is the point of crashing into a cliff?

There are no AA missiles in the game except the AALauncher and the Strela, it was a bug that you were able to target the hind with a TOW cuz its Air to Ground missile, right?

It would be nice if you were able to fly the TOWs Urself if you were gunner. You could do this in an amazing game called LHX tounge.gif

Which brings me to another point. im running version 1.42 of OFP but when i am playing missions where i have the option of being able to use a Strela launcher as my secondary weapon, when i select the weapon (on the gear section before mission starts, not during gameplay) i get an error that there is no pic.paa file for the image of the missile ammo fo rthe launcher, so it see the streal ammo name under the items 2 section, but theres no image.

Also even though its an air to ground missile (the TOW and Hellfire) IRL they would still be able to use these weapons to engage other aircraft as they are heat seeking projectiles so the difference between air and ground targets in this case is negligable.

Also does anyone have the same problem im having of weapons not hitting anyuthing bu the floor, even though you have the bastard locked in your sights no matter what the range not a single round will go on target? Whats more annoying is that i never had this problem when it was just the original version 1.00 its only since i have patched the game that i've had this problem. It literally makes alot of missions impossible to complete as my ammo runs out without taking out a single enemy when from the aim that i have i should have anihilated like 70 of em. What the hell am i suposed to drive the enmy away with if i cant use my weapons? harsh language? it wouldn't be as bad if you could at least have some form of hand to hand combat in the game, at least if only just for the Blac Ops and Spetz Natz soldiers were you can sneak up and break the enemies neck or something so that if you are out of ammo you can kill someone and take their weapon, or if not hand to hand how about a combat knife or something? or better yet just fix the goddam inaccurate weapons problem. its not as bad for mission where im commanding a squad as i can order my troops to engage the targets, although my score i low as i dont actuakl get to take anyone out, but in situations where my squad get killed, or its a solo mission i have a serious problem. it means i just have to stop playing at that mission and cant get any furthur. Plase fix this as theres no point in having the game if you cant sodding use it.

Hey Acid! Are you on acid? biggrin.gif

A bullet takes time to arrive at its target.

The greater the distance - The longer travelling time - move further infront of the target.

If the target is moving to your right, then aim a bit infront of him.

In real life you could launch a TOW on a flying object, but it is easily avoided as AGM's fly slow and are poor at manuevering.

Thats not what i mean. The weapons are totally inaccurate. And wont hit the target, even if the target is stationary. the rounds simply hit the floor around the enemy, all around him infact. You can see therounds from the weapon hitting the floor all over the place except for the target whether its moving or staying still. On some missions that targetting works fine and i am able to zip through the missions and killing anyone that gets in the way with no problems. But on others the weapon just will not hit the target despite how close or far away the target is.

Yep. Sounds like FADE to me. Do you have a legal registered copy of the game??? If not, FADE kicks in and screws up the accuracy of the weapons.

And sometimes FADE kicks in even if you do have a legal copy of the game. If that happens, you contact the company for help. But statistically, that happens VERY RARELY.

I belive that this sentence answers your question.

Btw FADE DOESN'T kick in on ripped copies. I know someone who has a ripped copy and never had any problems with it. The rippers found a way to disable the FADE "protection". So now all FADE does is piss everyone off and eventually make the game unplayable. Which isn't exactly fair as why the hell should you pay out money that you've earned only to be able to play some missions for a certain amount of time before FADE makes the game unplayable? Two words: Rip off.

I shoot them down anyway...like in tanks I can manage to shoot down choppers with a sabot...but yeah you can't lock on without the damn machine gun selected....
