lighting

Recommended Posts

Not long ago I have noticed that if you're shadow of a house (for example) - you could see this especialy the morning - normaly you haven't to be lighted, but the sun light your body as if there was no house. Quite a annoying bug, certainly if you don't want to be seen.

Just the way it works ( or doesn't ) I'm afraid. Its actually pretty common for shadows to only fall on the landscape, certainly any games I can think off do this. Fact is that to actually calculate every beam of light in real time would eat up massive amounts of processor time. Most games cheat in this respect, just that some do it better than others and its usually games with static lighting that are best at it. As OFPs sun/ flares/ headlights all move you loose out in other areas.

Still its only a matter of time before somebody does get it right.

Eventually games will take advantage of the dynamic lighting that is supported by the best of today's graphics cards. There are some cool technology demos of that floating around, and it looks really impressive and natural.
