hawkins308 0 Posted January 8, 2007 Alright, this is not a mod so to speak. However you can pretty much make your own, really fun game in ARMA now with no addons at all, and alot of imagination. Alright firstly, you need some paper and a pen or pencil. Now, imagination. Open the editor and place your player somewhere, anywhere, whever you want to start. Lets say in this case, the NW corner of Sahrani right near the coast. You, your player is the Camel pilot, so youll just have the M9, with low ammo, 2 magazines. Then put a crashed chopper beside your player, no health so its blown up. Alright, so you have crashed on Sahrani. Now, you have to populate the world with randomly patrolling bad guys. For this case, a virus infected everyone on the island and they are mindless zombie freaks hell bent on your destruction.(maybe not so mindless, they can still use guns) Alright so withen about 4 to 5 miles of where you start put patrols of maybe 2 to 4 enemys with low ammunition. Then give there leader 3 waypoints, all at Safe, Limited speed, with a radious of 500 to 2000, youll just have to fit it so they stay on land. Put as many as you want. The low ammo and small groups near your spawn point is so ammo is at least somewhat scarce for a while, and your not facing to many bad guys. Then increase the goodies as you move your bad guy spawns farther from the start. RPG guys, machine gunners, snipers, etc., full ammo, etc.. Now, populate towns, and buildings with baddies. Just add some bad guys in towns, then give them waypoints to move to buildings that are enterable, etc.. So they will be in there making for tense room to room clearing. Add vehicles with random placement radious's, some with no fuel, some with little fuel, some blown up, etc... Now you can add in some goodies to be found. Like dead west soldiers with random placement radious's. So you might be humping through the forest when you find a dead guy and get an M4 with an aimpoint, and a few mags. Or since your imagination is the limit you can just add a crap ton of ammo crates to a town, a bunch of vehicles and a civilian who is the dealer of the goods. Then give all of the stuff prices, and have missions give you money. And or, for every enemy you kill you get money. For example, say you set the price of a M16/m203 at 2000 bucks. Then you make a mission to blow a tower at a town, and it pays you 2000, you could go buy the m16/m203. Now you have to keep track of your money on paper, so more imagination at work here. Ok back to the game we were setting up. You crashed on island, NW corner, lots of bad guys randomly roaming around, lots of bad guys in towns, etc.. Now it all needs a point. So make up some objectives for your dude that crashed. Lets say, he didnt just randomly crash here. He was on his way here anyway to rendevous with a survivor of the virus who is at a nearby town where you crashed. So first you have to make it to that town, and talk to the guy. So write that on the paper as 1. Mission 2. could be, lets say the guy says that he can fix his truck and you can drive it. However it needs oil, and a sparkplug. He Knows there is a disabled truck somewhere in Selva de Cresta. He just doesnt remember where, he was driving it through the forest at night fleeing from zombies, or whatever. You dont need to write all that crap down, you just make up whatever story just write your object at mission 2 "find the truck in the selva de cresta, to get sparkplug and oil" Then you just add a truck with no fuel in the selva de cresta with a random radious of lets say, 300 or 400 or so. So youll have to search the forest to find it, then to simulate bringing back the stuff just run up to it, or add some pistol mags to its cargo and carry those back to the guy. Then you get the truck. Then maybe mission 3 is to drive to a nearby town, blow up an empty fuel truck with a satchel. Its not a fuel truck though, its a truck containing the virus.(yeah, i know if you blow it up it would probally get all over you, were imagining here though) I hope this makes sense. I am having a great time with it. I have like 40 objectives on mine, from clearing towns of badguys(zombies) to searching valleys for a BMP to blow up(because it is full of virus stuff, and driven by zombies) It does make for some stalker like gameplay. Or I assume. Stalker is the game set in chernobyl that just will not come out. Armed assault is fantastic for this though. Much better then flashpoint. much more bad guys, and crap on the map without adding lag. I have tons of stuff going on in my stalker game now, lots of cool encounters have happend. For example, Walking through the forests with my weapon down, looking for a crashed jet(to get antidote for the guy that gave us the truck) then as I was walking through, i hear the snap snap of rounds cracking by and am instantly in a serious situation taking fire from somewhere. I proned out, and scanned for the bad guys(zombies). Spotted 2 about 150 yards away and capped em with my trusty aks74u. Got some ammo, and a grenade from em. Then about and hour and a half later I finally found that stupid jet. It was cool though, it felt epic when I finally found that jet. Well I hope someone gets what I mean with all this rambling on. Sorry for bad grammer, and spelling. im to lazy to fix it up.

nephilim 0 Posted January 8, 2007 excuse my ignorance please.. but what does this have to do with the S.T.A.L.K.E.R. game??
Sled88 0 Posted January 8, 2007 He said STALKER gameplay ^^
mrbean1112 0 Posted January 8, 2007 I made a mission kinda lik this back in good ol ofp days. I had a buying system, covered the island in grass...... used some resistance guys that looked real cool like the stalkers. In the mission we had to sleep, eat, and buy stuff. You get money for killing zombies and completing various missions (One mission was to hunt and kill a mutated dog aka T-Rex (DEFINITELY GREAT FUN!). The mission was for 8 player coop.. you start in a camp with some americans to help you protect it.. there was a merchant in the camp, and a hidden merchant in some ruins out by russians. the maps time was sped up, so it lasted like 4 in game days... you had to complete all the missions in that time... but each day took like a whole hour. I remember it was great fun over Lan.. but i used way to many addons so i never released over the Net. I guess the point of this post is to prove that it can be done.. and the OFP/arma engine are very flexible.
Al Simmons 0 Posted January 9, 2007 hm.... this is not a mod or a custom mission. If i understand u right u are only talking about how to make a little athmospheric mission, so why did u posted in A&M: Discussion?
Espectro (DayZ) 0 Posted January 9, 2007 Dude, u should release ya work
nephilim 0 Posted January 9, 2007 so i guess you already have stalker in its final form so that you can make an statement about its gameplay? wow...:notworthy: tell me about it
Col. Faulkner 0 Posted January 9, 2007 Yes, hawkins308, please ignore the petulance of the detractors here and release a mission based on your ideas so we can all enjoy it too!
max power 21 Posted January 9, 2007 so i guess you already have stalker in its final form so that you can make an statement about its gameplay?wow...:notworthy: tell me about it I used to participate on the stalker board quite a bit... for years, actually. To anyone who has spent any time in that community it would be OBVIOUS what stalker-style gameplay means, especially in the context of the description of his mission. Unfortunately, the STALKER team has had to axe much of the gameplay elements and it's going to turn into what is essentially supernatural CS outdoors rather than the survival game it was once envisioned as. To claim that one can't make STALKER-like missions or mods in the absense of the actual STALKER game is completely ridiculous. STALKER has extensive source material (including but not limited to a book, a film, and an actual disaster, materials pertaining to which are all pretty much readily available), and a plethora of released documentation and art. In fact, it should be possible in ArmA to make a STALKER mod that's more STALKER like than STALKER turned out to be.
-)rStrangelove 0 Posted January 10, 2007 It surely can be done, but it's a lot of work esp with ArmA scripting still green behind the ears. I'd say it's not so much about ppl don't use their imagination, but in fact to do & test a mission like that would take months. I agree it could be an interesting scenario (surviving, fighting, collecting & selling & buying things) so it's ok to startup a thread such as this to give ppl ideas. my opinion though
hawkins308 0 Posted January 13, 2007 Thanks for the replys yall. Yeah when I said STALKER gameplay, i just meant what my take on what STALKER was going to be. A huge world, do what you want when you want, lots to explore, lots of enemies roaming around, lots of different weapons, and gear, etc.. Armed assault is fricken awesome for this! I litterarly played the game for maybe 3 missions, it is great. However im having alot more fun playing in a persistant world. I use to do these type of missions in flashpoint using the flashsave tool. However it was not stable at all times, my saves could get corrupted and hours of gameplay down the drain. Kinda was a drag. AA so far has proved rock solid. Been playing this one mission for about 10 hours real time now. It was 7:30 am when I started on a small island with a small motor boat, and an M9 pistol with 1 magazine. Now its about 5:00pm, I have explored a large portion of the NW corner of Sahrani, I have bought a truck, and a humvee. I have a crap load of weapons, AK74s, AK74SU, M16s, PKMs, some AT4s, and I just bought the MK12SPR. The gameplay is in large part up to me it seems to make it immersive. Now in real life, I know I cannot run for miles, and miles, and not get tired. So I walk in game as I would in real life. I like to lower the weapon, then use the freelook button as I walk around. It is very immersive. I have completed about 10 out of 37 objectives I made for myself. Most are basic stuff, like locate a BMP in a forest and blow it up(an empty BMP with no gas or ammo) Of course there are bad guys roaming around everywhere. I havent bumped into to many yet, however I have had some cool encounters. One objective was to clear Eponia of enemies(about 7 or so guys scattered around town) I was clearing one of the tall apartment buildings and was on the top floor looking out a window overlooking the town. Then I spotted 3 specks coming out of a treeline about 500 yards away. I raised my trusty M16 rifle and starting capping off rounds at em. I dropped two of them, the third ran back into the forest and disapeered. About an hour later im on the oposite side of town, clearing a building when I hear rounds crack by me and I prone out. They came from my rear in the forest that guy ran into. He had stayed put apparently and ambushed me. Luckily he missed and I was able to crawl in a building then peak out of a window and find and shoot him. It was cool. Then i took his grenades and put them in my truck, cleared the town and drove back to the homebase so to speak. Where I keep all my gear, and where I can by stuff. I would like to try to make a good mission like this and release it. I think I need to learn some scripting however, in order to have things that I do on paper, be done in game. Like the money system and the objectives, etc.. I can only imagine how awesome a mission like this would be if I didnt create it. Then everything would be a complete suprise. After creating the mission, I have some basic memory of where I put enemies, etc...
MehMan 0 Posted January 13, 2007 AH! Now I remember where I got my inspiration for my mission. Woke up today and wanted to make something just like in the first post, just less stalker like and fantasy like. Made this starter mission. Would like to expand it further, a lot further. I was wondering the whole time where I got the idea, I know I can't come up with something actually original. Will have to put your name in the readme.
