Unsolicited invite from armedassaultsquad

Recommended Posts

Anyone else received an unsolicited invite to http://www.armedassaultsquad.co.uk

I think this is a companies (505 / Media Maze) way of getting free missions from mission builders on the pretext of wining something each month, that they then maybe release as a saleable product compilation of single missions or campaigns later down the chain.

read their T&C

Quote[/b] ]By agreeing to these Terms and participating in the tasks set to Armed Assault Squad members, you may be required to submit written material to the Web Site or through other websites and information resources. In the event that you do submit such material, you acknowledge that you grant an irrevocable, non-exclusive license to New Media Maze to use this material on the Web Site, or in any other media or in any other way as New Media Maze deems fit.

For the avoidance of doubt, you hereby acknowledge that you waive any moral rights including the right to be identified as the author or creator of any such material

You hereby agree that New Media Maze may modify or adapt without limitation any material you prepare in relation to a task set to Armed Assault Squad members.

Basically with this type of condition this says "we want you to use your skills and imagination to build great missions, that we may be able to sell for a profit or use as we see fit without giving you the mission builder any payment or recognition for your work", why else would a company ask you to submit these type of projects and have such terms to put a strangle hold on your creation.

Anyone remember that last company that released missions and stuff for OFP without the addon or mission makers agreement?

I am disgusted that 505 / BIS is backing this venture if the sole purpose is to rape the end-users mission making skills for their own financial goals.

edit:

Thought I should add that if i have misread the intentions of this venture then I apologise for the misunderstanding, but to me it smells fishy.

Seems like someone took some pills and ended up waaaaaaaaaaay in the wrong alley..

Yes, I mean you BIS! confused_o.gif

Just for getting it on the paper:

Any random jackass can register this page, if so, I excuse my statement.

If not, you have taken ArmA to a high level, but wrong level.

Too bad...

Doesn't seem to make any sense to me. An advertising agency???

I may be wrong but it doesn't look like you are actually forced to contribute anything. You are after all taking part of a competition and the entry rules are the ones they clearly state.

Nothing new.

Those terms&conditions are quite hilarious though..

Quote[/b] ]If you find any material that you believe is either:

defamatory, obscene, blasphemous or incites racial or religious

blablabla

causes any damage, loss or personal injury (including death),

please notify New Media Maze by email to communication@armedassaultsquad.co.uk Upon receipt of such an email, New Media Maze shall be entitled to remove such material if it, in its sole discretion, is of the opinion that such material should be removed.

I wonder how we are supposed to kill people with this tounge2.gif

But i wonder if anyone is really going to sign this, hell, when they benefit from it they 'claim it', but when something is wrong it is entirely your fault, great!

Also.., we "may be required", does that mean we may be forced to? tounge2.gif

Again. Noone is being forced to take part in the competition.

I wouldn't mind seeing more of these competitions. Then we might finally see some quality missions for Armed Assault.

Anything that inspires people to make missions is good, the current crop isn't very impressive.

I bought Armed Assault and I hope it succeeds. You don't?

There is nothing unsolicited about this, you sign up here, then you can expect to be part of BIS marketing schemes.

And so far I haven't seen many good SP scenarios. PMC perhaps but it's still in an alpha stage. So there is nothing bold about wanting more quality scenarios. Let them have a go at it. Of course DMA will release great stuff later but inbetween now and then we need more scenarios.

I think it's a great initiative to hire a PR company with a track record. Previously people were whining at the lack of marketing, now that it happens, some find time to whine about that.

I hope to see some nice compeitions there... We might be lucky and see some hosted games with prizes there?

Now that's the spirit smile_o.gif.

If nothing else it might spur people to visit this quiet forum part. What's the point of having stunning addons if noone makes scenarios for them?

Quote[/b] ]prizes can only be claimed by citizens of the UK only

Well that trows like half the people out of the competition, if atleast the poll in this forums is correct.

Poll

It also is the biggest scamp I have ever seen to not waste your peoples time.

1. You dont have anyting to say about the product.

2. You dont get credit for it.

3. If someting go's wrong with legal stuff your screwed.

4. They can change what ever they want.

Actually 505 deals with more than the UK, yet this competition is only for the UK. So it is only for a small fraction of the ArmA players. Just like that damn Ubisoft "20 Years" competition that is only for people in the UK - and Ubisoft is a French company! crazy_o.gif

Most posts so far seems to focus on how crappy the competition is so maybe it isn't such a big loss?

Thats not bad, I received a 'spam' pm from (anonamous), although I should name the guy just to make him look bad, coming from some game cheating group, basically asking me if im with their program to exploit in game cheating, and also stated anyone who responded to their pm negatively would be considered 'weak minded' and would be ignored, I just sent them their message back with 'shmuck' written at bottom left smile_o.gif

Anyway, what 505/BIS does cannot be counted as eihter usolicited or spam, we all signed up freely here.

Now. Do you guys want ArmA to succeed or not? Why all the negativity around these boards. Let them try various ways. At worst you get new scenarios to play, since they will be available for everyone, UK resident or not.

But the missions will be released by the makers anyways on this forum/opec and what not. IM sure people wont want to make great kick ass missions not to get credited.

Nowhere do they mention submitting missions tounge2.gif .

They give you tasks and stuff. So far the only one they have is to invite new members. They also mention written work, maybe they will ask for short fictional stories and stuff. The fact only people in the UK can claim prizes is something I think sucks. 505 publish the game in many more places than the UK.

When I signed up here I did not agree to receive unsolicited crap from BIS or any of their 3rd party's, in fact I think the only thing you agree to when you register is not to post anything inflammatory or libel.

As I didn't agree to subscribe to anything or for my contact details to be released to 3rd parties I would expect them to honour my privacy, or if they like I could subscribe BIS to plenty of organisations that would like to send them unsolicited emails and offers of Viagra and what not.

Just because we sign up to this board does not give them the right to release private data without user consent (if BIS did).

Lets see 505 engage a marketing company that then actively encourages the sending of unsolicited emails by their group members, while not only getting people to do their work for them for nothing, they are also gathering a whole list of new email address that can be used in their future marketing projects.

and you can't see anything wrong with that  whistle.gif

Maybe you missed it but it says BIS and 505. This board is owned by BIS.

I didn't even recieve anything so maybe there is an option after all.

Since noone is putting a gun to your head in order for you to release your missions, then no. YOu are free to take part in the competition or not. It's like a lottery, you pay for the lottery ticket, your mission is your payment.

Becides. It wouldn't be in their interest to not publicly announce the winner. What's the point of the competition if they don't? You can be sure we'll know the winners name.

That site is run by 505. That competition is run by 505. If you dont like the terms and conditions of this contest, it is very simple: Dont apply.

No more conspiracy theories please. The intention of this contest is for the benefit of the community by a publisher.

If you have any questions, please email them.
