Sir Wankus Magpie 0 Posted January 1, 2007 Hi im new to these forums but i have been playing OPF games for a few years now. I am having issues with the Demo for Arma that have thwarted me from playing the game at all I have not been able to join any servers and I have not been able to see a Server menu. My game crashes every time i click join on a server now. My game loads fine and fast and the menu screen shows plenty fine FPS so i am not having performance issues. Is there any way that this could be a firewall issue? Thanks my specs are AMD 3000+ (2.0 ghz) ATI 9800 Pro 128 meg 1 gig of kingston value ram 80 gig harddrive with 30 gigs free space
red_zone 0 Posted January 1, 2007 I'm having problems just starting up the game when ever I download the demo and go to launch I encounter the following error This application has failed to start because d3dx9_30.dll was not found. Â Re-installing the aplication may fix this problem. Well i've reinstalled this application about six times and even re-downloaded it twice so far. Â I'm running out of paitence. Â Sorry if this topic has already been covered but I have not seen it anywhere so far. Â Please any help would be much appreciated. Â Â My system specifications are: AMD 64 4200 Dual core 2.20 GHz 1 GB Ram Nvidia 7300 LE

lilwillie 46 Posted January 1, 2007 Ok, so my 6600gt is almost not relevent, i got over my anger about the insane min req for this game,i even almost got used to playing this on 800x600, while this card plays very well other titles. Dont think i will risk it with the full version. I'm hoping that the future releases and patches address that. I'm running a Nvidia 5950 Ultra and with the demo I can play it, but ya, like you mentioned there is some texture issues. Everything is set on low, and 800*600 screen to run it "OK". Now with GTR2 I have things at high, wider screen res and online racing 20+ cars not a hint of lag. Someone gave me "Just Cause" for x-mas and I can run that game on it's highest settings with just a touch of choppy when I'm in the water with a lot going on. Medieval II the same, everything cranked up on big battles with no drop in performance. I'm starting to understand peoples frustration with the demo not running well on their rigs. I sure hope the future patches and releases will optimize things. patience.....all we need.
Jack-UK 0 Posted January 1, 2007 Tiger 2650: You need a new graphics card, the one you have is quite old. Thats why you got a low FPS. And please remove the DxDIAG from the post its stretched the page massively, just link to it or something next time..
HotShot 0 Posted January 1, 2007 There also appears to be a setting to lower the HDR, but that just keeps going back to default 8 so dont think that is changeable. Have you tried right clicking on ArmADemo.cfg => Properties => Attributes => click the Read-only box => and then Apply? Thanks KAOSInc, that works. The HDR value remains at 0 now. However it did nothing to my performance, BUT I got some FPS readings from Fraps with 0, 2 and 4 values for FSAA: 0 = 22/23 FPS 2 = 14/15 FPS 4 = 10/11 FPS That was what it is at the Main menu/water and island cutscene. HDR was on 0 when FSAA was, so I think HDR must corolate to the FSAA, which when 0 means HDR is off, whatever its value is, which would explain why I got no FPS difference. Also, thinking about it I dont get much/any light/dark difference when I look at the sun or get out of a vehicle, and I have been playing with FSAA at 0 for a while, so it must just be that which I have turned off. So if you dont mind not having the HDR effects, I think it is well worth setting FSAA to 0 in your Config so you can get a significant peformance increase. Helps alot in cutting down the vegetation 'lag spikes' in particular. Although obviously it will do crap all if you still have your other settings too high. tiger_2650 0 Posted January 1, 2007 Jack-UK Thanks for your response ... I haved removed most of the dxdiag as you suggested leaving only down to the display for other users.
Jack-UK 0 Posted January 1, 2007 Thanks =) If you upgrade your GFX card you should get much better performance from ArmA

Suma already said that setting the HDR setting below 8 doesnt do anything, it cant be turned off. You can set it on 16 but that will hurt your performance and only a few cards can use AA at the same time.
BroK3n 0 Posted January 2, 2007 Suma already said that setting the HDR setting below 8 doesnt do anything, it cant be turned off. I set the HDR to 5 a few days ago.... and yeah there is a difference. With 8 i had lots of constant bright-dark-bright-dark thingy going on with the screen. With settings on 5, however... the change isnt as often and jarring. Spetsnaz Zenya 0 Posted January 2, 2007 Hey can someone tell me what this means? and a possible way to fix it? CreateIndexBufferFailed (8876017c) I dont want to have to screw around with options on my computer I don't understand =\ but that happened to me about 6 times when playing. KAOSInc 0 Posted January 2, 2007 No problem HotShot! Can't remember if this was also noted or not....but when either Ally or Enemy jump into the vehicles...the colour tag is the wrong colour....as in the enemy become green and the allies become red when viewing directly(not on the map as that's okay)

This causes a lot of friendly kills, especially for newer players to OFP/ArmA.
max power 21 Posted January 2, 2007 This makes sense though, doesn't it? If it looks like an enemy and sounds like an enemy...? I think this is a feature, not a bug, and I don't think you could trouble shoot it even if it was!
Jack-UK 0 Posted January 2, 2007 Yes its not a bug... Plus this only appears in Cadet mode (most servers run Vet in the full game). If its a friendly in an enemy vehicle you are automatically going to think its enemy. So you gotta check that name off with your player list (p) before you engage. Or if its on vet mode call out on chat whether its friendly or not.
subdigr 0 Posted January 3, 2007 I had that problem where Id recieve that error message after the second last check box during start up, I fixed it by updating my nforce audio drivers to 4.62. I originally didnt think this was the problem cause I've got a Creative soundcard which I used as my primary audio source but I was wrong.
KELLO 0 Posted January 3, 2007 So will there be a fix for the CTI mode for the demo version or not??? Dont think this has been answered yet by any devs or mods, or are we just supposed to wait for the game to come out in Feb...I currently have the 16 player CTF and 8 player Co-op running on my dedi box but i would like to see the performance of the CTI mode... if your not going to fix it, it was a bit pointless releasing the demo as it was
Jack-UK 0 Posted January 3, 2007 Yes there is a demo patch in the works. CTI should be fixed in the patch (No there is no ETA on the patch yet)

franze 196 Posted January 4, 2007 Installed zone alarm and still having that connection problem. I'm not sure if this would get any mileage, but have you tried the "remote" function and used an IP? Granted it probably just acts as a filter, but it's something that I haven't been able to try yet.

Your PC doesn't meet the minimum specs. It needs at least a Shader Model 2 video card. A Radeon 9250 wont run the game.
