Cold War Rearmed Discussion

Recommended Posts

"Vilas can convert it in about 5 minutes i think"

"We're not that type of mod that shows progress screens all the day but never gets released. We're more like FDF, we show something when we have something and when the release is immediate. "

wtf ?

i released many addons, many weapons, even new vehicles, you call that i only show screens ?

i was proposing you help in Cald War rearm because i made AK47, AKMS, Sa58, UK59, FAL, SKS, RPD M16A1, M60 and vehicles that were in OFP , i released Soviets KLMK from 1985, soviet Mi17

but you refused cooperation saying it is nonsense

other man from CWR team simply don't answer private message

and now you are suggesting that i only show screens ?

i made 12 packs of addons , 280 MB in RAR

what you released that you calling me in this way ?

it's not quantity that counts, it's quality.

just as a side note schlau.gif

and only 3 of the weapons you mentioned where original content of OFP.

Yeh Vilas's addons just ain't good looking enough. I'd rather have a remastered CWC in ArmA than a straight port of everything with no quality improvements.

Well atleast vilas does things... >_>

Quote[/b] ]it's not quantity that counts, it's quality.

No it's playablility that counts, not the uber highres textures and ridiculous polygon counts. You can make stuff look good without melting CPU cores.

It's been mostly going the otherway around in OFP modding lately though... >_>

Well FDF showed some screens and has a soundpack out already.

Vilas is working with what is available right now. Maybe appreciate the effort instead of slamming his work.

The early retexes done by people make the game interesting.

I look forward to trying this mod out when its ready but that wont be for AGES. In the meantime, cold war rextexes are just fine.  smile_o.gif

I was responding to the earlier post regarding CWC type units. It was somewhat related.

Your just interested in chattng so take your own advice and stop pretending your a new mod icon_rolleyes.gif

How should the forests be made? In Sara the forests are smaller and its foliage might be too demanding in the heavily forested areas of Kolgujev and Everon, i also liked the more dense forests of the original OPF islands, are the forests in OPF Elite any good?

try to make the forest dense and not so munch as organized like in ofp forest were it is organized tree, bush, tree, bush, tree, bush. You should base the forest like veitnam but not as dense and tropical.

Two alternative islands; otherwise identical except one with

the ArmA trees and the other with something closer to the

OFP trees, would be nice. Many folks have real trouble with

the ArmA trees causing a massive decrement in fps. I think a

heavily ArmA-forested island would be largely unusable for

many.

This wont be happening. We wont be using valuable time to make two of everything, one lowres one highres.

people playing Arma should have PC's capable of playing Arma, and realistically, by the time this comes out the vast majority of PC's playing Arma will be able to cope with Arma-style forrests.

Hey, just a quick question here, (searching turns up waaaay too many results)

Could a member of the CWR team confirm whether or not CWR have the mod tools before the rest of the community? (Sry if it's been covered already crazy_o.gif )

Thanks

There has been no anouncement about the CWR team getting the tools before everyone else. Now back on topic. This thread is not for discussing the mod-tools. Its about the CWR-mod itself.

Deviating from the topic will result in PRs and WLs.

That's all you can read about tools here...

Thanks for the exclusionist attitude there (not that I

seriously expected anything else).

You know, I don't know which is worse;

the so-called "eliteist"/"exclusionist" attitude of expecting people NOT[/n] to try and run 2007 software on PC's dating back to before ~2004.

or the "naieve" attitude of people expecting to be able to run software on outdated hardware.

Personally, I think the second is much worse than the first, as they have the "omg you're being eliteist" to fall back on. I'm sorry, but you just cant expect to play 10k view distances and high texture resolution on hardware which is too old and therefore technically incapable of running it.

ArmA is already more scaleable than a LOT of other games out there. Sure it might not look as good when its on low settings, but it still plays. A lot of games will simply crawl along at 0.0000001 FPS because they don't offer any scalability.

(What's funny is that it was the same gripe when we [bAS] released Tonal. "OMG its too laggy" etc, mostly from people woefully/ill equipped to run it, or trying to run it too high-detailed for their equipment.)

People always want more for less it seems confused_o.gif

There was a lot of "blame the engine, blame the tools, blame anyone other than the modder" going around in OFP, and it was perhaps reasonable at the time. Frankly though, if the typical "high-fidelity" content from OFP is dropped in to Arma as-is, it's going to likely perform significantly worse than the baseline Arma content, not to mention increase destabilization. If it's patched up to add more eyecandy, that's only going to make things monumentally worse.

Arma is not going to be nearly as forgiving I think as OFP was, you could cut a lot of corners and throw stuff at the engine and it would still slog through it. You feed arma the same type of stuff without care for professional level content development, (years of professional level training and experience, + thousands of dollars worth of proper tools before you get to the BIS tools), then Arma will be really frustrating.

Yes, let's get back on topic. What is the current status of the CWR project? How much have you gotten done already?

Let me see what I find... hmm, some configs.

Seriously: We won't comment the status, as you may already have realised. wink_o.gif
