what do you think VBS or not

Recommended Posts

It sure does look like a whole new game, maybe that's why we haven't seen so much new stuff in the upgrades.

Yeah, I also think this might be a future big addon...

Maybe that expansion pack that has been talked of?

Dont know, but it definetly doesnt sound like something the military would use... Just look at the name, Indepence Lost...

Is that something for the military?

It is not VBS. BIS is developing this as an expansion of some sort for OFP to be publicly available by mid-year.

I think it might be VBS and they let these pics out to keep ofp sales up. If it is a addon I think they should not put out any more units and weapons for dl and work on the few bugs that are left in the game. i.e. The troops in the HMMWV still hang out. I would say they have done a good job with what they put out and its time to make some more money with a big addon if that what the pics are about. *Just fix the bug that are left plz* tounge.gif

If this is a new addon, itll be a major one, because it means its adding a whole new branch of the military, new islands, a shiteload of new units, and it seems an engine overhaul (note that craft have landed on carriers). I think this will be extremely cool, especially since i might be able to play as the australians smile.gif (i highly doubt it though, it looks a bit too marineish)

Also, does anyone notice the dates on the newspaper? it noted that we had a referendum 23 days ago, (yet the last one we had was in the year 2000 about our becoming a republic), and the date that the Security Council extended the mandate of UNTAET, is set to tommorow.

They ask the same question three times, Marek gives no answers and then they base an article on that. biggrin.gif

This is what it boils down to:

BonusWeb: Is it a new datadisk or a new standalone project?

Marek Spanel: I won't tell you whether it is a datadisk or a standalone project. We will inform you later this year; for now, all public information can be found on the homepage.

Let's analyze this a little. A new data disk means it's similar to another Red Hammer campaign plus maybe a little bit more. It's basically an upgrade to a newer version of OFP 1. This would be easy on the player community and I think it means that we can all keep using and creating unofficial missions and addons, as we're doing today.

Now, if it's a new standalone project, I doubt that this is another VBS1, simply because the whole IL site wreaks of PC gaming and not a contracted military simulator for some country's DOD or army.

So, if it's a standalone game, that can mean one of two things:

1. It's OFP 2. It would then most likely be a major coding overhaul of OFP 1 but it would contain everything that OFP1 has - islands, missions, campaigns. It would mean that we may all have to buy a brand new product, like going from Delta Force 1 to 2 to Land Warrior.

2. It's not OFP. It's an independent product, very similar to OFP but forced to have a separate install. Here, too, it's a brand new product but, other than addons, worlds and uniforms, it's an OFP 1 look-alike, spun off as a separate product.

If it winds up being a standalone, I hope it's not 2. I would love to have one product, one install, with all the missions, campaigns and worlds accessable within that single install and upward compatibility of all unofficial addons and missions. If this is the case, BIS may simply need to rename the product, as Flash Point is specifically alluding to the Cold War crisis and the product would now contain the 1985 Cold War Crisis and Independence Lost campaigns and maybe even Red Hammer.

RH is a Codemasters addon but this is a good point!

Nevertheless, since the name "Operation Flashpoint" is referring to the Cold War crisis, it's wouldn't have been appropriate to place IL on the same site. As I said, BIS may need to rename the product if OFP and IL are combined in an all in one package.

If they do, they'll need a new domain name for that, too!

Can anyone scan domain name databases for Bohemia Interactive or Codemasters as the registrants?

I have to revise much of what I said earlier. The Czech interview with Marek Spanel has him stating "I really don't want to reveal more, but it is not the datadisk we have already announced".

That means that IL is independent of the announced expansion pack, scheduled for mid-year.

Now what does that mean? Is this another separate expansion? Then why so hush-hush? Obviously this is something bigger and different.

I'll put my money on this being a new product and a separate install. It doesn't sound like OFP 2! Depressing!

If so, the question returns: will user made OFP addons work in IL, too?

I think that avonlady is right, but we'll just have to wait and see. I'm quessing that it is a completely new game, which just looks like OFP. smile.gif
