Recommended Posts

At ease!

Does anybody know is BI going to release english version of ArmA as a downloadable version? (steam style), I can´t find info about that anywhere.

Q1-07 is such a long wait...

UK has an own publisher "505". so bis will not publish directly to the UK market.

UK has an own publisher "505". so bis will not publish directly to the UK market.

But 505 and BIS could still arrange it. It requires very little resources compared to the box/dvd distribution. The game is ready in english november 10th so there's a slim hope they will go ahead with online distribution then or at least before next year. I can't see any good reasons why they should not, besides maybe the czech distributor complaining. But they wont get to distribute an english version anyway, so they shouldnt complain.

an online release will not canabalise 505 or any other publishers profits. only the mad fan base (aka people like you reading the forums before the damn game is even out) would be interested in the online release as a way to get the game ASAP.

There's a signficant proportion of people have stated they would only get the box set (shiny circles, plastic and manuals, yumm)or they do not have the bandwidth to download ArmA.

and then there are the fanatics who would buy it online and ALSO get the boxed version (just in case the disc scratches or the hard drives crashes you know). I am in this category. and so i know first hand there is no hope for these people, really.

and then there is the rest of the gamers. this is the vast majority of people who will get ArmA and where the big money will come. people who browse game shop shelves every few weeks and then buy games they like that way. these people would not know arma release date is pushed back nor give a shit if they found out. They'll buy it when it's on store shelves and thats good enough for them. This target audience FAR outnumbers the mad fans (aka you) and represents the serious profits the publishers are after.

over 1 million copies of OFP were sold. but i sure as hell don't see a million fans over here. more like a few dozen very vocal regulars and maybe a couple hundred (if that many) irregulars.

so what's a few hundred comparted to1 million? see, it's a statistically insignificant amount of potenital lost revenue. insignificant unless you consider it's purer profit going into BIS (and maybe select publishers smart enough to get on the band wagon) pockets.

I belive they'll make more money on the d/l version as soon as it's out than the retail version. Although I'm a UK player I do hope the US ver comes out a.s.a.p because the market must be huge over there!

I would also think the d/l version would be out as soon as the first set of boxes hit the store's....it's a very clever way of making money (don't blame them) because the rest of the world is waiting so long that people will buy whatever is available

Searching for "online distribution" or similar would find this thread which answers the question as much as we're able to answer for now, yes there will be online distribution of some kind, no we don't know what or when or where.
