blackjack-VS- 0 Posted June 1, 2006 Hello everyone. i just started this thread (i want to ask this for a long time but was afraid of having it locked) to a ask the ofp addon comunity if there's any kind of atempt so far, to build an addon with arma technology. the new game is comming one of this days, and personaly i stoped working on ofp addons for couple of months. the (hard) work of creating one decent ofp addon is replaced by researching in 3d/2d tools that deals with normal mapping (the only public feature we'r sure that arma has). so far i made a couple of exercises related to that, but nothing on the ofp/arma theme. i think i'll start soon to build something, so by the time arma is out and so the editing tools, i dont have to learn all the necessary stuff in a rush. i dont know if this is best section of the forums to discuss and show some works we'r doing. if not please move the thread. just dont lock plz, since there's nothing wrong with discussing/improving techniques for our (new) favourite game. i doubt that i'm the only one that wondered about arma addons, so show us what u got! cya soon! berghoff 11 Posted June 1, 2006 First It would be nice to have the proper tools for ArmA modding :P Oh, wait I already started taking pics for my next addon .
Ukraineboy 0 Posted June 1, 2006 Please do a search next time. I made a VERY recent thread on modding in OFP, actually two. One was what people hoped for in mods, and the other was a discussion about which mods are converting to ArmA.
blackjack-VS- 0 Posted June 1, 2006 ukranianboy dont come here and post that crap like you do most of the times...if u eventually read my question, i asked who's working on 3d models to be used in arma, and in that case to show them here. and if u bother to post crap like that at least point the threads links so we can see. but it's no need...i know what threads are that, and no, they arent exactly what i'm talking here. i'm sory if i sounded rude, but this isnt the 1st time i see this crap happening. so can we plz keep the thread talk here? TY BergHoff that link u posted give me a dam weird screenshot...but the funny thing is, by this afternoon i saw the same pic and worked fine...maybe the error is here duno.. but that's the only screenshot (3dmax rendering) of something being done to arma. and it looks awsome! Also, I'm not gonna do the work you were supposed to for you. Before you posted this thread you were supposed to search. Also I replied very courteously and respectfully, and you blew up. Thank you for your time.
Guest Ti0n3r Posted June 2, 2006 For fucks sake, cut the whining and let the mods decide if this should be closed or not
Delirium 0 Posted June 2, 2006 I did a whole lot of models just for ARMA but without any SDK of any kind I can't do much with them in terms of animation, coding etc. The models are fairly detailed and there are still many questions I need to be answered: -Normal maps? -Weapon parts animation -Unit animation (can I rig it elsewhere?) -weapon sights etc.
Guest Ti0n3r Posted June 2, 2006 -Normal maps? ArmA supports normal maps.
Dynamax 0 Posted June 2, 2006 and you can import animations from MAYA
blackjack-VS- 0 Posted June 2, 2006 what i've been doing lately is learning the normal mapping techinique... basicly u build a very high detailed model and a low detail model (low detail is the one we want to use ingame). then u place the 2 models overlaped, and then bake textures so u can have the low poly model with great detail. its a "fake" detail, since our normal maps textures will create a lot of bumps, but wont add polygons to the mesh. i've been working to with a nvidia plugin to photoshop, that creates a normal map from a bump texture. the results with it arent bad at all, but i think i'm cheating when using it...maybe not! surpher posted this link in a thread i started few month ago. it basicly explains it all very well. normal mapping so far we dont know how animations will work, so i dont even looked at it. there's pluggins for maya and 3dmax to import export animations, but only for ofp so far(that i know). it would be great to have such pluggins for arma. we need to wait a bit more for that i supose... general 0 Posted June 2, 2006 and you can import animations from MAYA which is gonna make my modding life a hell lot easier not inporting from maya, but to export an animation so it can be edited in maya, cuz there's really no good plugin for that
soul_assassin 1429 Posted June 2, 2006 O3 light will give the ability to create/view animations within it. Also animations within animations will be possible.
Guest Ti0n3r Posted June 2, 2006 Yeah, the new modeling tool will be called Ozone
brataccas 0 Posted June 2, 2006 best arma screens so far http://ofp.gamepark.cz/index.php?showthis=9638
dm 9 Posted June 2, 2006 O3 light O3?!?!?!?! AFAIK the tool will always be called O2, since its "real" name is "Oxygen" We might get O2^2 or something tho.
whisper 0 Posted June 2, 2006 Well, perhaps the new tool is now "Ozon". BIS lobbying for ecology?
Delirium 0 Posted June 2, 2006 O3 light will give the ability to create/view animations within it. Also animations within animations will be possible. I would like to have a possibility to rig, animate whatever in my app and then export it to O2 by whatever means, meaning OBJ, Collada you name it. Is is possible with new O2 or engine for that matter?
Big Dawg KS 5 Posted June 2, 2006 O3 light Ozone Light? Sounds... bad.
NeMeSiS 11 Posted June 2, 2006 Also animations within animations will be possible. Does that mean that we will be able to for example move only an arm, while the rest of the body just walks left/right/whatever, while just creating an anim for that arm instead of 3000 different anims for every direction/stance?
Big Dawg KS 5 Posted June 3, 2006 No it means vehicles can have animations fixed to other animations.
general 0 Posted June 3, 2006 so it would be possible to make, say, a starwars ATST to walk and it would still be possible for it to turn it's head?
CameronMcDonald 143 Posted June 3, 2006 Sorry to cut the line of the thread here, but it seems that some of the addons being done by the USMC Mod will end up in AA, seeing as they have too many polys to appear in OFP... without blowing up the average computer, anyway. adumb 0 Posted June 4, 2006 Sorry to cut the line of the thread here, but it seems that some of the addons being done by the USMC Mod will end up in AA, seeing as they have too many polys to appear in OFP... without blowing up the average computer, anyway. I seriously doubt if a model won't work in OFP that it will work in AA, saying the poly count is too high is just ridiculous.
martinovic 0 Posted June 4, 2006 I thought the USMC mod 1.4 is being made for arma and only arma.
