Best sound card for OFP?

Recommended Posts

Anyone have any recomendations for sound cards for ofp? Probably not going spend over $150. I saw the Sound Blaster Audigy line, but other than that, that about it.

Soundblaster Audigy2 is perfect for OFP.

I`m playing with 5.1 Sound all the time.

A $10 pos AOpen Cobra...  only one to never give me any problems (toss out any ideas of hardware acceleration though)

Although I've heard that an old Soundblaster 128 can give you "super hearing". Used to play w/ a friend of mine online and he was like Tonto with "I hear tanks... and a heli.. sounds like a gunship... they're getting closer.." and they'd be like 3000m away, but they'd sound like they were right on top of us to him. Funny thing is if I remember correctly, the first few times we played, he would be freaking out, running around in circles w/ his LAW, talking about hearing tanks and screaming "I hear em!!! They're coming!!!" only he couldn't tell the direction so he would be spinning around like a mad man... thing was these tanks were patrolling some road on the other side of the map and nowhere near us.

i currently got a quite lousy card (Sondblaster live 24bit external) but it was a chepo so what the hell (it works)

but when i get more money (in like august or something) what card should i aim for? dont want to spend much over €100

internal or external card doesnt matter, and i like creative cards wink_o.gif

Yea, that was an EAX bug... I had that one too until I got winxp. Anyway, It was pretty easy to hear direction... You could also hear people breathing in MP... Now that was a fantastic feature that let people think I was really good... The it got fixed and I went back to sucking, lol smile_o.gif

Audigy2 ZS, good bang for the buck, works well with OFP (unlike the sblive pos) and works even better in vbs with hardware acceleration on.

A good investment imo, i am very happy with it and i think it will make its way into a possible new PC next year smile_o.gif .

I'm not sure if it was EAX related in regards to the soundcard. THe SB 128 was wayyy before EAX unless you are saying that OFP had a bug if you didn't use EAX... then yes.. that might be the case. However, I believe he had the problem up until he purchased his new computer recently which suggests it was never 'fixed'.

[EDIT] Did a search on Avon Lady's FAQ and found out yes it was fixed for SB Live and up. No mention of legacy cards so I assume the fix didn't work for his SB 128.
