Yeah, you're right about shadows. I was confused by the angle of the camera...analysing the picture(s) (after i've seen other posts) made me realise that the camera was ~50 centimeters above the ground which, of course, resulted in shadows not being parallel because of perspective. If the camera was, let's say, 40 meters above the ground, than shadows would be more or less parallel. I checked it in 3D Studio Max (i tried to recreate the same conditions seen in the photos) as well as in OPF editor (first on foot and then in helicopter, using two traffic posts).

In conclusion: shadows are approved by me, BIS; keep up the good work! tounge2.gifwink_o.gif

@KyleSarnik: it's not very nice to say that some members of the forum (including myself) are stupid. Discussion about the shadows was very civilized, why not keep it that way...?

I'm sorry to say that it is not enough. The shadows still need the approval of EU and to pass the EU directives of in-game shadows.

I am afraid that it wont be a big hit and only diehards like myself would play the game.

I was hoping myself that the grafics would be much better and the characters would move more lifelike instead of the robotic movement they have now.

a few complains from me.

- grafics to outdated (water, explosions, enviourment)

- character movement to robotic like

- aiming is weird

It hurts to see my favorite game still looks outdated still in grafics when it comes to water, explosions, enviourment.

Also dont like the character movement just had to say it.

I wonder what big difference it has compared to OPF, to me it still looks like OPF in grafics with a slight few changes like reflections, character looks lifelike but movement still not impressive.

We have new maps ingame and game use a new interface and other new menus but its mostly OPF!

I wanted something new on large scale battle and its not!

I would accept this when it was an addon for OPF but i dont accept it when it comes to a new game!

It hurts

Yes i would expect more grafical fineness with water, explosions, enviourment.

Computers today can handle it and its not llike AA has much lagre cities ingame wich would lag.

We see large open areas with some town in specified areas, so yes grafics can be much better!

1.-When you have Armed Assault in your PC,(even the best PC), you wont be able to set it up to the best performance...as we couldn´t do it with OFP.

2.- Armed is not completed.

You're looking at the graphics and you're dissapointed. That's understandable (even though I would wait for release before commenting).

The key points aren't there.

How is new physics? (ricochet, wind, gravitation effects)

New terrain streaming, unlimited islands

New netcode for way more people online, with JiP.

And compare with the current market. Bear in mind it's still OFP, editing wise, which means in this department, it has no rival on the FPS market. You're dissapointed too fast, imho :P

No, no no

Well, yes they can, but the minimum specs are quite high already, and apparently you seem to think that only graphics determine the performance of a game. With so much AI walking around, swaying trees, physics, what not you cant afford better graphics.

In Oblivion the FPS drops noticeably with >5 characters in a small area at the same time, while the average OFP battle contains >30 units excluding choppers, tanks etc smile_o.gif

A graphics card that is capable of displaying pixel shaders.

hmmm..I buckled under the lack of ArmA and rushed out and bought Hitman:Blood Money only to find out the my GeForce 4 Ti4200 wouldn't run it. The ti4200 has pixel shading but this new Hitman uses shader 2.0.  Go to Eidos the forums to see mine and many other's rants on how faulty this game is. THe game feels very amature and rushed for release.

@BIA: Take you time with this one. OFP was a master piece and, while it may look dated, is still as good today as it was back then. Don't let a publisher push you as IOI did.

I'm loath to upgrade for Hitman, but for ArmA I'll buy a complette new system if needed!  (well...a new card anyway! )  biggrin_o.gif

Poor graphics? O____o I was amazed when I saw the pics they released around April. I had a wish that ArmA would look better than BF2, and that wish came true inlove.gif

Damn right,bf2 is mostly for looks though,I did alot of exploring outside of the map, when you havent started yet your camera SOMETIMES has the ability to move,I was amazed at how much terrain EA was stupid enough to leave out,I'm talkin miles of expansion and not a one of it walkable because you would be dead waaay before you got to it.

And the great thing about AA if like OFP (probably) Is that it will be easier to mod,not to mention you won't need multiple mods to have certain units, instead you can use em all at once, and that is one of the reasons I love OFP..anyway.

... So how long have you been playing ArmA then to come to this conclusion so soon? I can't really comment much about ArmA yet 'cos I haven’t yet got the game! A far as I was aware BIS was still working on it, unless I've been misinformed!  tounge2.gif

I would expect to see plenty of polishing up on the graphics and animations since the last video that was shown so don't go jumping to conclusions!

It seems that BIS is in a catch22 situation here! If they show their work as it progresses people won't like it! If they don't show their work as it progresses people won't like that either!    ... Doh! doh.gif ... I give up!  blabla.gif

Well if arma features a lot more realism then OFP then i can look past the cruddy graphics, but if the tanks still behave like in OFP then it's off to steel beasts/balkans/flight sims.

Jeez what is with you people and the cruddy graphics issues? Are you mad that everythings not overly shiny or something? The shadows on the vehicles,I don't recall them doing that on OFP..and if they did then it must have been like OFP:E,in OFP:E you can drive under a tree and it will cast A shadow, but it will for the most part be like a box,not detaild like that is,further more I don't really see how you can call these- *digs in AA folder*

http://img384.imageshack.us/img384/2735/armed045aq.jpg

Bad graphics, and furthermore I do believe AA MAY have reflections on glass,if you watch the trailer when it comes to the blackhawk, from this point http://img469.imageshack.us/img469/4751/armaavid45qp.jpg watch ALL of the glass, the door mostly and you can see a kind of moving reflection.

Also if you really think AA has bad graphics, consider what BIS COULD have given vs what they MIGHT/WILL be giving,to give the best note of this I will use the vehicle I can see the most change in,the blackhawk.

As for the character movement I guess you just can't be pleased,I mean hell the animations are smooth now, sure the only possible issue may be how the head moves when running but hey not everyone runs the same, but BIS has done this when they could always just say screw it and leave it,I mean they have VBS1, and VBS2 on the way so they wouldn't really need Armed Assault,so yaknow, try to show alittle respect and concideration for their hard work.

- grafics to outdated (water, explosions, enviourment)

Dude..are you like...being sarcastic or something? Seriously. If Arma's graphics are outdated, well then the PC industry is going straight to hell as it tries to swallow much more than it can chew. The graphics may not be on par with Crysis, but thats a way next gen pc game, where as arma is current late gen.

Compared to what other games are the graphics outdated? (New games like crysis and UT2007 don't count, simply because these are next-gen running on DX10?). IMO, the game looks even better than half life 2 and the water in the game is jaw-dropping.

Animation, ok, they do move very robotically with not-so-good transitions, but its still a massive improvement over the current ofp.

And to say arma looks like it could be an addon to ofp without much graphics improved:

operation flashpoint:

Armed assault:

http://www.bistudio.com/games/aa/ArmA_hires_01.png

Yep....such little improvement...I can barely see a difference! whistle.gif

Pertty too biggrin_o.gif

And water will change,I'm guessing from OFP:E representation and how clear the sky is,this is what water will look like when its clear weather.

http://ofp.gamepark.cz/news/pics3/armaE3wwiiec6.jpg As I stated before in a seperate thread,on clear days theres next to no movement so you feel like your looking at a blue sheet, similiar to real life, depending on how the sun is reflecting of course.

I also just noticed somethin on that particular image...anyone think its rather strange that these two images would have different crosshairs? One from above and this http://ofp.gamepark.cz/news/pics3/armaE3wwiiec5.jpg

Sorry yall, but by the looks of things, the graphics are not impressing. And in addition to that, the physics look as they literarly stink.

The graphic engine does look outdated. But I cant say that about the final product, cuz i dont know how it will be ofcourse.

I think the engine has more potenisal then what we have seen, and improvements are sure to come early after the realase.

If you move, the crosshair will change to the broad one. if you ran, the crosshair will change to the cross-like one. if you are standing, the crosshair will be the same as we know from ofp.

watch ArmA Press Demo from 3,5 min until 5 min - ther you see what i mean smile_o.gif
