Vivat Flashpoint

Recommended Posts

Changes compared with OFP :

1. Realistic Animations, Landscapes, Textures, Shapes, Esthetics (I want to see the bricks fly and hit a soldiers head when a Sabot hits a wall and see the building crash down not just like some kind of twisted sheet of paper, windows blow when I shoot at them, a guy hit by an Heat is atomized, the vehicles fall apart instead of deformating them like buildings, clothes on soldiers move for example when there is strong wind and the leafs on trees move too, u get in a car by opening the car doors, I want to walk on grass instead of a green carpet, trees explode when hit by a Sabot and a guy next to it dies (or gets blind), water reflects your image and there are some waves, clouds are in 3 dimensions not 2, the list goes on but I'm running out of ideas for the moment...)

2. Interactivity, more real behaviour (possibility to dig out a hole to hide in on an open field, break some tree branches and cover yourself with them, move ammo crates, load them on trucks, carry wounded soldiers to ambulances, no more magic medic who heals soldiers just by moving hands in the air, soldiers can use medical stuff themselves for example taking morphine to stop pain so they concentrate better on targets, helicopters can carry vehicles, your radio can get damaged, if u keep running you fall down sooner or later because that's what happens when you are very tired and wounded, bleeding makes you unconscious unless some medic stops the bleeding and gives you some vodka to drink (for example), your weapon can get jammed, one of your cars tire is down and you can change it, radio communications are on frequencies and not on colors, commands through a voice recognition system built in the game so you can talk to close units and stop typing on keyboard, possibility to form a new squad (without scripting the thing when mission is done), when piloting a chopper or tank or any vehicle you can see details about all the indicators that are on the panel : altimeter, tachometer, oil pressure..., you can take clothes off from a russian soldier and put them on etc.)

3. More units, weapons, vehicles and other stuff (better AI, not super AI who shoots your ass from behind walls, I like weapon parameters on briefing, more accessories for example like in Splintercell for the BlackOps : sticky camera, flash grenades, better night vision goggles without the big "pixels" flickering, heat vision, etc., join in game multiplayer,

I don't know if all these things will be in OFP2, maybe some are not totally needed to make a realistic game. So what are the things you would put in these three categories. If you all post the things you'd like to find in OFP2 we will then see what are the most asked features and there is a relatively high probability that the BIS team will take notice of it and try to put it in the next game they are preparing. I invite you to post your categories.

I am sorry to say this, but the three categories you can put this in are:

1. already mentioned (in interviews or by members)

2. already possible with scripting in OFP.

3. downright dumb for even mentioning.

Sorry, but start reading information on other Bis products: OFP:R scripting, OFP:e , ArmA , VBS2 , and Game2. you'll get a good idea what to expect.

If you want to create your own wishlist thread that's fine, but you better have some true stunning suggestions, or you'll just be littering the board.

Sorry for being harsh, but seeing you are not even aware Game2 has destructable buildings, you earned it.

dont forget that you can fix a damaged vehicle by swapping parts from another one just like it.

you can basicly take two damaged jeeps and swap parts and get at least one of them running again.

I remember reading in wikipedia about Operation Flashpoint 2 (you gotta type that in to get the description) not long ago saying that BI had developed an system to measure the deflection, penetration, trajectory, and other thigns that affect bullets. Is this true? Anyways..regarding suggestion, I'd like to see soldiers talking over the radio show some emotion and emphasis on words, as well as just shouting orders (without radio). Just my take. Can anyone confirm the thing posted on wikipedia.org?

you can take clothes off from a russian soldier and put them on

Why would you do that in combat?  It would make all the units fighting on your side mistake you for an enemy and would probably end up getting you killed by friendly fire.

more accessories for example like in Splintercell for the BlackOps : sticky camera, flash grenades.

Flash grenades would be alright, but sticky cameras are something that should be left to games like Splinter Cell

better night vision goggles without the big "pixels" flickering

I always believed the reason those large pixels were there was to simulate NVGs in 1985, maybe I'm wrong.  Anyways, those pixels keep NVGs from being way overpowering to units fighting without night vision goggles, but still gives a big advantage to units that are equipped with them.

I really hope that teammates help each other out. What I mean by this is, for instance, a sniper shoots someone and he goes down; I wanna see his buddy drag him away, as it would be the logical thing to do. The one thing that would be needed for all of this is high quality animations. Hopefully the animations in this game are more detailed (example..when you're running, you don't always repeat the same animation patterns). IMO some analysis of combat footage in Iraq is an excellent place to start because it shows a wide variety of movement patterns if you look at the soldiers/marines. Just a thought..but a thought could turn into reality, too icon_rolleyes.gif.

I don't have the time to read all posts and I think I shouldn't have posted the topic anyway.

I'd like to know if leafs on trees will move an produce sounds of moving leaves and also if BIS intends to add animations for characters' clothes (moving with the wind) in this next game (what is the name of their next game ?) I think that will give an awesome touch of realism.

Let's wait untill we have terrahertz CPU's and at least 20GB or RAM as a "standard" set up before we start seeing everything (like you seem to be asking for) to be simulated realisticly (like all clothing and leaves and so on). These sort of things aren't even done in this depth in games with tiny play areas where the soul idea of the game is basically to be a graphics fest, never mind a game with maps that will be 400sq/km and above (seeing as Armed Assault will have maps this size, so I assume they'll be larger, or at least the support for larger maps in Game 2), several tens upto hundreds even thousands of units on the mape at the same time. Let's take things one step at a time.

We'd all love for these things to all be simulated, but you have to ask your self "what exactly will they add other than eye candy?" Will they actually have any gameplay advantages? Balistics will be a major aspect of gameplay that affect pretty much everything, such as the sort of cover you decide to hide behind. AI is something that affects everything (non human obviously), like how they act and react when under fire, or when they're in close proximity to objects or other units. These things have an actual impact on the game play in some way, simulating moving cloth on people's uniforms and leaves moving about in the wind (actually simulated not simply animated, which would be the more logical option) wouldn't do anything but look nice.

Anyway, in short. They should (and I'm sure they are, they know more about their engines limitations and power than we do) concentrate on the aspect that will affect and effect GAMEPLAY before they even bother to consider the extra things like simulating realistic cloth movement in real time, which do nothing but add to the visual aspect of the game but do nothing for gameplay. Such things would make NO difference to how you play the game (well, maybe you'd take things slower as you go "ooooo pretty!" whilst getting your head blown off by a 7.62) or how you interact.

If they do add such things I'm sure they'll be scaleable, as they won't be a fundamental aspect that is 100% needed, and can cause people to have advantages or disadvantages depending on being able to see them or not. It's a hard thing making games, which is something a lot of the big names *coughea* have worked out and decided to not bother as much, thus we get half assed crap.

Anyway, I trust BIS with all my heart to create something so fantastically amazing that it'll simply blow us all away the day it's released. I mean, they were a poorly (in comparison to most of their competition) funded and somewhat amatuer developer when they created OFP, and they really did a HELL of a job creating what we know and love today, so I dare not imagine what they can create with a professional, dedicated and experienced team behind them with proper funding there. All I can say to them is good luck, and I know they won't fail to deliver something revolutionary (forget graphical revolutionary... everything these days seems to be a revolution if they can up the gloss maps somewhat for the "oooooh shiny!" factor) gameplay we'll all grow to love (or love at first sight).

Madus, you seem to love the game very much, me too, but that doesn't mean we shouldn't ask more and more from game developers. It's up to them to make the game using or not our suggestions. What I'm saying is that I would love to play the game and be imerged in a strinking realistic battlefield, even tough I felt this thing when I started playing OFP, but with time you find all the wrong details like the water with no waves (I know there are in OFP Elite), the clouds in 2D, the square clothes on soldiers, etc. All this will certainly be improved and I hope it will be far beyond the other games so it will take more time before I'll have enough of it (not of the gameplay but because of the graphics).
