LordHorusNL 0 Posted October 28, 2005 Hey guys i'm working on some battletech stuff for lan games and just to see how realistic i could get them in motion and firepower/technologie "Jumpjets" and such. This Maddog class mech is just a prototype and i'm now working on a Uziel type mech. And i remember seeing some work from i think "desert_rat" a while back and was just wondering if anyone released some other battletech stuff or was working om something cool. This could really make some cool sci-fi tank battles
EricJ 760 Posted October 28, 2005 This in OFP? If so that's pretty cool man...

Ian Malcolm 0 Posted October 28, 2005 This looks excellent, but how it's animated? Those complicated legs are bit hard to animate properly any other way than by RTMs. I didn't know there is a way how to use them on armored vehicle? Edit: Btw... looks like screenshot from VBS
honchoblack 2 Posted October 28, 2005 Your mech is looking excellent Do you have walking animations for the mech?

And believe me, I would have picked up on the map because I have all of them

If it's animated
LordHorusNL 0 Posted October 28, 2005 Yep its 100% animated using some scripting and normal rotate animations and setobject texture, The legs are animated as the should be but i didnt sink it with the body motions because it is a prototype. Uziel will have full body animations. Ill see if a can get a small video to show what the current anims look like. And btw the island is bas tonal.
CanadianTerror 0 Posted October 28, 2005 And here I was all looking forward to those "legs that slide" type of addon. Oh well, I guess animated is fine.

Thunnder Bunny 0 Posted October 28, 2005 Mechwarrior4 mercs is my second home, game wise that is So you can tell I'm happy with your mech Yep ,there were some mechs started awhile back but only a few were ever released. Animations being the nail in their coffins I'm afraid. Several mechs were on their way by a few people but I haven't seen any news for awhile. Still waiting on the last mech pack from mektek, so any mech in any game is music to my ears!!! hehe Uziel's always end badly for me, as one shot to the head and I'm dead or cored badly. More screenshots are always welcome
LordHorusNL 0 Posted October 28, 2005 Damn fraps is easy to use Its on my home account so it will probably be slow Short clip about 9mb right click and save as. Temp Maddog anim Legs have only one speed now but Uziel will have running and walking speed animations. And maybe a duck anim, I hope. Body just has a small "Jiggle" i found some new ways to animates the upper body and legs so this will be implemented in the Uziel. Let me know what u think. Ian Malcolm 0 Posted October 28, 2005 Short clip about 9mb right click and save as. Hmm... downloaded, but i can't play it. It says i'm missing the unknown FPS1 codec...
LordHorusNL 0 Posted October 28, 2005 Hmm strange it could be that fraps is ussing its one codec to code the .avi, could be u need to download fraps. I never used it so i have no idea, if more people have this problem i'll try something else.
Ian Malcolm 0 Posted October 28, 2005 Hmm strange it could be that fraps is ussing its one codec to code the .avi, could be u need to download fraps. Yeah. That's it. FRAPS is apparently using some kind of their own codec. Well... that animation looks way better than i expected! Good work Link to DivX6 version 324 kb only Link to cropped version (mech in the center of the screen) 552kb
FischKopp 0 Posted October 28, 2005 Yeah, it looks really impressive. Good work .
Desert-Rat 0 Posted October 28, 2005 Yes i did some Mechs (Timberwolf , Marauder IIC , Shadowcat , Hellcat and a Warhammer) but i don't make further on them because i don't found anyone who could animate them. Warhammer Marauder and Shadowcat Marauder and Timberwolf and Marauder and my Hellcat Mech but the most don't have a cockit or LODs yet only a base model. hazmatt 0 Posted October 29, 2005 that timberwolf looks like a Madcat lol great work tho!!
Desert-Rat 0 Posted October 29, 2005 is the same Madcat and Timberwolf , in Mechwarrior 2 it was called Timberwolf
honchoblack 2 Posted October 29, 2005 Just saw the animations for the mech, and those are indeed much better than expected, it looks like actual mech movement, good job and good luck with bringing mechs to OFP.
thesun 14 Posted October 29, 2005 I love the textures, thes are really impressive. Would be nice to have more of these mechs in OFP
itim_tuko 0 Posted October 29, 2005 Wonderfull - I always liked the tabletop game Battletroops, where Infantery had to fight mechs. Is anyone also making infantery and armored troopers?

Will you be posting your scripts and other notes on the mech animations and model setup for others to ref. too? If so we might find others coming out of the woodwork, eg. the HeavyGear mod team etc... DragoFire
SengirVampireWW2EC 0 Posted November 1, 2005 Your Maddog looks absolutely fantastic, I have been wondering if some ´Mechs exist for OFP. I have been always enjoying Mechwarriors series, its my second favourite besides OFP (Mech4 is shit tho - stupid engine, bad controling of the mech, Microsoft made an arcade shooter of it! The best one was Mech2Mercenaries, I still play it todays What an atmospehre the game had and with such a simple graphic!!! The only fault the game series have is a lack of a mission editor. And OFP has one, wow, it would be great to have a bunch of mechs for OFP and do missions for it. Anyone has a Jenner, Thor or Annihilator? I also have all important Mech2 sounds (they are best), they can be coded to mechs config, with various eventhandlers you can have it all there on your mech (i did something similar for Be45 tanks) Whats the way to animate a mech ? In OFPAnim programm by rotating components on mechs model or...?
LordHorusNL 0 Posted November 1, 2005 Wel i did it using rotation animations and scripting as stated above, but you could also use heavy setpos scripts or the old animated soldier under a tank body thingie But i went the simple way because i want this addong to work in MP so heavy scripting is kinda out the window. BTW could i get those mechwarrior sounds from you i was wondering where to get some high quality sounds from.
