Quote[/b] ]-abrams rare, but could have been in use

Yes some were in use but only M1 not M1A1 which BIS used for CWC.

Quote[/b] ]I suppose you've already taken into consideration the CSLAII russian units and vehicles. They would be ideal. We don't need new models of the original CWC vehicles just maybe reskinning like CSLA did on the Blackhawk and M113. Anyway i'll be keeping a close eye on this little mod (look to the left of the screen)

I think some new models would be nice too, but many have been made already. Combat made a nice M113A2, RHS is working on a T80 and a T62-pack, CSLA made many very nice and useful addons. What I want to say is: please don't reinvent the wheel! Use these nice addons if the makers give you permission. After all the decision is up to you, of cause!

About reinventing the wheel, not much on units is planned yet. First I want to concentrate me on getting vehicles done that arent made yet and do fit perfect in the 1985 ERA. Some other models from mods will be used in the future but those will be reskinned to make the texture style match with the new models. smile_o.gif

are you going to do some historical accuracy for this mod?

there are the following mistakes in CWC

-uh60 not fully active in 1985 - use uh-1

-m16a2 not deployed, m16a1 still in use

-bradley non-existant

-abrams rare, but could have been in use

-hmmwv rare, MUTTs widespread

-t80s rare, use t72

and remember, there are NO m249s in use with US forces, they hardly made it to Gulf war 1.

Blachawk UH60A

Quote[/b] ]The Army began fielding the UH-60 in 1978. From 1978 until 1989 the Army procured UH-60A model aircraft. In October 1989, a power train upgrade resulted in a model designation change from UH-60A to UH-60L. The UH-60L version that provides 24 percent more power than the original 1970 UH-60A model. As of the end of FY97, the Army had procured 483 UH-60L models for a total UH-60 acquisition of 1,463 aircraft. The Army is in the fifth and final year of a multi-year procurement contract calling for the delivery of 60 aircraft per year.

Abrams

Quote[/b] ]Although fielded in 1980, the Abrams remained untested for over 10 years. When Iraq invaded Kuwait in August 1990, there were concerns that the Abrams would fall victim to the sand and long months of continuous operation without the luxury of peacetime maintenance facilities. There were also doubts about the combat survivability of the extensive turret electronics. Immediately following President Bush's decision to commit US forces to the Gulf region in defense of Kuwait and Saudi Arabia, American armored units began the difficult process of relocating to the threatened area. Due to the shear size and weight of the Abrams, the C-5 Galaxy, the largest cargo aircraft in the US Air Force inventory, was only able to handle one tank at a time. This meant that nearly all of the Abrams tanks deployed in the Gulf War were shipped by cargo ship. Although slow in coming, the arrival of the Abrams was much welcomed by Allied forces, as it is capable of defeating any tank in the Iraqi inventory.

T80

Quote[/b] ]T-80: The first production model of the T-80 entered production in 1978 with only a few hundred built before production switched to the T-80B.

hi i was wondering if a country gets involved in a war dont production lines like quicken i.e. the m1s would have probably been full upgraded tp m1a1s.

i'm takin this example from the current US forces in Iraq have been prioritised with uparmoured Hummers yet before the war there were very few in the US inventory but as soon as war broke out hundreds have been produced a month.

Not really seeing in 89 the M1 still mostly had a 105 rifled barrel main gun and often was a longside the M60A3. There are 3 M551A1/a2 Sherridains addons out floating around one from Combat OPGWC and another used Vilas mod. At that time only 11 cav and 82nd still had em now only 11 cav as VISMODS. All other armoed units where pushing M48s and M60s in replacement of the M114A1 and M551 due to problems bothj systems had.

-m16a2 in use with marine corp (although not completely) and parts of the army, so m16a1 more realistic wink_o.gif

-uh60 also very rare, the units depected in CWC wouldnt have been crack units or SF, they wouldve been closest to the battlefield

-t80 - again, this tank was not fully fielded, and if CWC was based on true events it would not appear.

you should put some f-4's in for ground attack pistols.gif

the tom clancy book red storm rising is set in the mid 80's, so any technology used in the book would be a realistic example of the weapons available.

who could argue with mr clancy tounge2.gif

that was during a training exercize, on the islands is a thread of war. So for the safety of the troops they will wear PASGT helmets with a camocover. smile_o.gif

Novoga

Hi there! Just to complete the list on the Islands wink_o.gifOk it's not CWC but.....

Besides this, that project sounds good. Would love to see a bit more of the cold war time. Although i would like to see the main focus concentrated on mission making or a campaign.

Your approach of just filling some gaps sound very resonate and good.

S!

PS: Red Storm Rising is one of my favorite books but even the good Mr. Clancy wasn't always right. He might be spot on for US equipment but Warsaw-Pact definately wasn't his subjet.

References to a 30mm ZSU (Tunguska?) as example or a lack of knowledge on sovjet equipment in general.

So corrected my spelling mistake. banghead.gif

But that Chapral looks great besides being the first one shown. Anyone correct me if I'm wrong.

the M-1 steel pot was still being worn by some units up untill the '90. I have seen pics of troops with the M-1 on as late as Desert Storm.

Are you going to be using HYK soldiers for this mod? If so i have some stuff you might be interested in...

I like the idea of this project. Chap looks good and I would love to see more '85 equipment. What camo scheme are you going to apply to the vehicles? NATO, MERDC, OD? smile_o.gif

Miss Cleo your soldier model is awsome. I've been wishing for a early 80s soldier like that for a long time. Would be perfect for a Grenada mission which in my opinion would lend it's self perfectly to Flashpoint.

Conflict a small island? Check

early 80s? Check

Would be a very short campaign though heh.

Growing up I had a M1 helmet with a woodland camo cover and dust goggles that I always wore while playing army in the woods.

For the west, the M-47 Dragon would have been in more widespread use as a heavy AT system than the carl Gustav back in '85, yes?

M47 was the AT weapon for most outfits till about say 94 no M249s the M60 was in heavy use even main front line units. M151A2 was still in heavy use up to desert shield There are still a few units runnning them for special purpos use due to it can bbe shoved in most choppers bigger than the UH60. Its often used as a combat air traffic controller vehicle when the Toyota isn't aviable. shame never finished the M880 and M1009 trucks or the M35A2.

What's the Warshaw pact?

Are you trying to mouth Warsaw?

-Breaker Out

the USSR answer to NATO operated very simular had huge amounts of armour. The warsaw pact and NATO were the reason why Europe was so heavily militarized ever since world war ii and its only been in the past 10 years that europe has seen a significant de-militirzation, i.e. the US has already disbandend 3 armour divisons (2nd, 3rd and 49th) within the 90s and early 21st centurary, I'm pretty sure Germany, France and UK have also followed a simular doctorine, not quite sure what the Warsaw countries have done though.
