bigsouth1981 0 Posted August 17, 2005 Nice to see we have a lot of fellow soldiers on here. So has anyone got any war stories then? who's seen action?, who has witnessed how awesome (whether right or wrong, justified or unjustified) war can be?, lets share a few tales come on, Andy
tankieboy 0 Posted August 17, 2005 You will hear nothing from me. My "stories" stay in my head. Sorry.
bigsouth1981 0 Posted August 17, 2005 I dont neccessarily mean tales of arms and legs blown off, sorry if you dont like talking about it, or choose not to for that matter. Dont get me wrong, I was on Op Telic 2 and saw enough shit to last me a lifetime but since im still serving, Ive no doubt Ill have the dubious pleasure of seeing things like that again. If you dont talk about it thats fine.
WhoCares 0 Posted August 17, 2005 I was one of the last conscripts that had to serve 12 month in the german army, so when you know when they switched to 10 month you know when it was (~10 years ago). Nachschubbataillon(Mun) 481 (replenishment battailon for ammunition), Zweibruecken. Our unit (and some more) were actually paid (at least in parts) by the US government under the War Host Nation Support. But the american funding for this got cut in the early-mid 90ies, so the unit got closed a few years after I left. We even had some nice american equipment (e.g. biiiiig forklifts) and an exchange with american (reserve) troops from Wisconsin(but no conscripts went there ). In case of crisis our task would have been to operate the ammo dump at Miesau (biggest american ammo dump in Germany, not far from Ramstein Airbase); as there was no such case some of us helped in stocktaking and similar tasks... Puh, so much writing for such a boring job  Ah well, it got me a truck license I used never since  PS: You can always check the Military Humor (former Military Stupidity) thread, some told some nice stories over there. PPS: You should add your own record
