Novajev Island released

New version is out!

The new Novajev Beta!

While the western part of the island is nearly unchanged, the eastern part has been half

finished at this time, and we can tell you:

If you liked the western part, you will love the eastern one!

Fewer objects, much more details.

The eastern part comes along with another detailed city and a lot of improvements in scenery creation.

Some examples:

- A lot of fences outside the villages, marking private territories

- Roads passing forests

- More and much better detailed Houses and Farms outside the villages

- A large manor within the forest

- and even much more.......

But please remeber: This is still a beta version!

looks beatiful, reminds me of nogova but a bit more detailed smile_o.gif nice with new islands to do missions for or just play around on smile_o.gif

Whilst making a test mission I ran into this as I drove into the main city (begins with 'A' apologies for not remembering the name) from the north.

Couldn't see a thing.. unless I turned around.

This is an extremely nice island; for the next version, however, could you implement mapfact's lights (see mapfact-nogova) for the default BIS lights make the towns very ugly at night crazy_o.gif

I've just tested it, and I really fall in love with. It is the map I was waited for so long, a map adapted for motorized combat and recon, a real countryside smile_o.gif

It reminded me my years of recon combat on jeep.

The road infrastructure is really good. With a bit more roads and trails, map reading in vehicle will become a must-have skill for all commanding players wink_o.gif

There's a point I fear. The map may have too many objects (fences,...) in town that may prevent cooperative games from being smooth sad_o.gif

When your map will be finished, it could be possible to make a more coop-friendly map with fewer objects.

First, of all the various versions of Nogova that I have, this is the best. Perfect countryside, with some very nice, but not overdone, urban areas. I especially like how the roads meander a lot more than roads on other OFP islands. Now, a few suggestions for the eastern part of the island:

1. Please make the northeast area of the island more heavily forested than it was in the original Nogova. The northeast's hilly terrain has a very wild feel to it, and it deserves thicker forests to make it more natural feeling. Plus, extra forests give campaign makers somewhere to put lots of resistance camps.

2. Perhaps you could remove Lipany and add a seaport and/or factory complex in its place.

3. Get rid of the town south of Lipany (St. Sedlo, I think), and replace it with a small military base and dock (For coastal patrol and military supply ships). The latest MAP military buildings would probably be the best objects for this small base.

Well, the island was tested on a 800 Mhz AMD CPU with 256 Megs of RAM and was running good. In a BWMOD CTI, the performance dropped, but it was still playable (also when fighting in the big city).

However, we will try to decrease the number of objects, but try to keep the details of the cities.

Yep, this was our intention smile_o.gif

But we will also try to have the numbers of city on each part of the island nearly the same, to make for example CTI a bit more interesting and fairer.

Sorry, but there will be no military compound on the island.

It would destroy the look and feel of a small island state.

Also we will try to keep the number of required addons as small as possible, so we will most likely not include mapfact or other addons. Sorry.

How many were you playing ? Currently, on our server, we are playing Players vs Players missions like "Convoy Escort vs Ambush". With around 20 players within 5-6 units acting near side by side, some of us had some difficulties... on Everon wow_o.gif

But this kind of game is far more exciting versus humans and using Teamspeak, one channel per side smile_o.gif

About roads, in order to improve recon on wheels and motorized combat, some roads may be added :

- connecting Barmatov and Baljenov

- from Korovask to Tjukorsk

- seaside, from Kislovodsk to Voronezh

- connecting the road between Korovask and Tyulska to Volkova, through Point 302 (Eb-30) and 267 (Ed-38)

- trails connecting roads

- trails inside the woods

This map is too much, even if I dream about the day I'll see it finished xmas_o.gif

Please, don't add custom building to it, it's quite difficult to find one island wihout custom building.

Why would you need an island without custom buildings? The building set supplied by BIS is not wide enough to build convincing environment. rock.gif

Nice island, btw, good choice with those sidewalks, many islands are missing them. smile_o.gif

On the currently done part of the island, fuel stations are missing (or I really miss them wow_o.gif ).

It could be cool to have holidays places, like a nice seaside village with nice beaches, or a mountain station.

Nothing is implented yet in the mountains, but mountain trails would be nice too smile_o.gif

Marvelous island and the Petrovice replacement town is superb, a work of art.  Gj  biggrin_o.gif

Looking forward to seeing Lipany replacemnt.  a north eastern large town would be great also.

ps I know this may sound daft, but is there anychance you could relase a version with it that has no town names in? So we could place markers as towns and give it some identity of our own. Would be very grateful.

i made a small sector control mission with vehicle respawn and player respawn / reequip scripts in it but it needs a bit more work before its done, but its located in the town where petrovice used to be i think tounge_o.gif

i want to say that you made great towns , and its really impressive that it was done with bis stuff only smile_o.gif

but mission makers can add their own buildings when creating missions and so on if they want, just make sure that there is enough flat grounds here and there to put buildings & bases on and its fine unclesam.gif

Bug: North of the Airport (I forgot to check the exact grid), on the west coast of the island there is a texture that is messed up. It is the wrong type of "Grass Meets Beach" texture. Small issue only though. Also a few of those are on the far coast of the river but since you haven't really done much with that yet I suppose you probably could find those later.
