Jmaster33 0 Posted April 17, 2005 I have had my PC for just over a year now and I'm having trouble with it constantly restarting itself. The proccessor is a 3200+ AMD chip, I have a GeForce FX5600 graphics card and 512mb of DDR ram. It seems to restart when I'm playing a game, or have a number of programs such as Photoshop and Media Player open. I'm pretty sure it's not overheating as I have a fair few fans in there and they are all working, plus it's quite cool in my room.. Any ideas on what might be causing this? PS. I realise it's not directly OFP related but it does sometimes restart when OFP is running ;)
agent556 5 Posted April 17, 2005 virus, trojan, adware/spyware, system resources used to limit and computer must restart. those are all the reasons i could think of. i used to have a problem like this with an old computer. later on, it stopped reading my hard drive

shinRaiden 0 Posted April 18, 2005 Ah, our dear friend and nemesis the high-mem 5600. Some links : Primary gfx5600 related thread Another helpful note For the 5600, you probably do not want the latest and greatest drivers. You're probably much better off with something stable in the 5x.yz range than going to a 7x.yz driver as well. I suppose as well this is an AGP card as well. Even with a 256mb card you're close to maxing out the power load on your AGP slot, and if there's any fluctuation in the system bus that could be enough to put it over the edge. You could also have ambient stuff like where the temp. difference between winter and summer is enough to push the wattage just enough over the unstable point. Rommel 1 Posted April 19, 2005 I had a similar problem, I had a GF2 (geforce2) graphics card. It restarted all the time. I got a whole new PC and new 256mb graphics card and all is good, it restarted once but not since. My friend has a ATI radeon card (somewhere in the 9000s, 128mb) and its constantly restarting and/or not getting into the game the second he puts any addons in it. A memory error comes up, he has I believe 512mb or 256mb/384mb.
