Depleted Uranium (DU)

Recommended Posts

It's good that you know better than me, i mean info.

hm, i never learned russian languages, i only watched russian channel, read military books and etc. and all my family members can talk in russian smile_o.gif

so i "learned" to read and speak...

Hm, Shtora, Drozd, Arena, them all are good systems against ATGM, some less better, some more... so i just want to say that rpg-29 is realy powerfull and not atgm smile_o.gif

oh, abrams, yes it's best tank of crew protection, but it has also huge missouts in it's creation and usage...

terrorists, it's not so huge diference that abrams would be attacked by rpg, atgm, sabotage or mines(but for abrams crews its not good), some people still claim that abrams is best tank in the world, i don't know how many i should try to change their oppinion, but i will try, to give them reality...

On a slightly related topic:

Quote[/b] ]

The legacy of Agent Orange

_41088327_xuanminh203.jpg

3-year-old Xuan Minh, believed to have genetic defects from Agent Orange

Thirty years after hostilities ended between the US and Vietnam, relations remain strained by one of America's most notorious weapons during the war, the chemical Agent Orange.

The Vietnamese believe that the powerful weed killer - the use of which was intended to destroy crops and jungle providing cover for the Vietcong - is responsible for massively high instances of genetic defects in areas that were sprayed.

Nguyen Trong Nhan, from the Vietnam Association Of Victims Of Agent Orange and a former president of Vietnamese Red Cross, believes the use of Agent Orange was a "war crime".

He told BBC World Service's One Planet programme that Vietnam's poverty was a direct result of the use of Agent Orange.

"They are the poorest and the most vulnerable people - and that is why Vietnam is a very poor country," he said.

"We help the people who are victims of the Agent Orange and the dioxins, but the capacity of our government is very limited."

History has a tendency to repeat itself.. sad_o.gif

Well, think what you like, Gedis, but somehow, I bet you wouldn't be real interested in helping to destroy some of those ABrams in combat.

If they're so crappy, I think we'd have lost a lot more of them.

And I'm sure our tank crews are probably real amateurish push overs too, huh?

Yeah, tell it to the Iraqis. They're fresh out of a few divisions worth of Soviet-made armor, because the Abrams isn't really a decent tank.

why are you acting this way? Did I miss something? I posted these links because I do think that it adds something to the topic of Depleted uranium and it's effects on mankind as long as we don't abolish the use of these weapons. I did a search in the off topic section to see if there already exists a thread and saw this one. I saw also the last post dated. The forum rules clearly states that an old thread can be let's say reactivated if something important and relevant can be added to the topic. Well I think that it is important and relevant to see these videos and I give a damn if the last post in this thread is from 2005.

As long as the mods not decide otherwise I have the same right as everyone else to post stuff even in a stone old thread

Instead of trolling by posting a useless comment about me using my brains where to post stuff maybe you should watch the vids instead and get educated.

Thanks:)

§6) No posting of explicit images

No posting of pictures containing porn, real killing, mutilations, wounds, carnage, and other disgusting/explicit images. This also includes links to pages that contain such images. If you are in doubt, contact a moderator via private message before posting. You won't be banned for checking out if a link is ok to post if it's a genuine request.

Did not break this rule

§7) Search before posting

If you have a question, please use the forum search function before posting to make sure that it hasn't been answered before. There is a big chance it has, not only does searching help to keep the forum free of multiple threads it will also help you to get an answer much quicker.

I did

§8) Post in the right forum

Please ensure you make new threads in the correct forum, if you're unsure of which forum to post in feel free to ask a moderator.

I did and I was not unsure where to post this

§10) Do not dig up old threads

Threads older than 4 months should not be dug up unless something significant is being added. If in doubt as to what is "significant", contact a moderator and they will give you their opinion. As always old threads will remain open or be closed at the moderator's discretion. Digging up an old thread simply to ask "any news" is also not acceptable, PM the thread starter or mod leader to ask.

I believe that I did not break this rule because the links I posted are important and significant- period

Rules are rules.

Let the mods decide if I deserve an infraction for posting something new in an 6 years old thread. There are still people who care about this shit and I do . . . since we are still using this kind of ammunition . . . especially Nato so it is still more than relevant for me and maybe for others too. Furthermore I don't feel to have broken any forum rules AFAIK. I posted two links of a documentary I didn't hotlink them. Then I would have broken the rules for sure. I really don't see what's the problem here.

I remember watching this documentary a few years ago but I couldn't find part 2 of it, so thanks for posting this.

I think that depleted uranium ammunition, and every other nuclear related weapon is the most cruel weapon that you can use, not to mention the environmental impact that DU ammunition has and the danger of it after the target has been destroyed.

Disgusting that this is still being used, but it goes to show how dirty countries can be in war.

Humanity better stay away for this stuff, sadly this subject is quickly forgotten.

It might not be important to you for me it is. Sorry if I'm hurting your feelings with that.

DU rounds, designed to kill people, used to kill people. Do good job.

Yeah especially your own troops when using them.

"Deadly Dust" is a film from 2006... just saying that you might check what is really new and worth to necro/"revive" and what is already known and discussed. Something new would be more appreciated maybe you find something new? Btw you didn't hurt any feelings just good to know that you don't care about latest news/infos and keep on cluttering threads with old stuff. :)

-Martin- use the searchengines and you will find it + other stuff about military and politic views from right-to-leftwing. ;)

So what . . . for me this film was new and it will be also to others I guess. i've read the complete thread and I haven't found one single info about this documentary in this thread or I might have missed it.

You have no idea about what I care or where I gain info from and what my level of knowledge is. Fact is I care about this stuff . . . and even it has been discussed to death and it's old . . . we are still using this stuff. and as long as we do . . . I reserve myself the right to post an old documentary in this old thread as long as the mods don't tell me otherwise.

Thanks for respecting my right.

I did that of course, I was watching the documentary on Google videos but I just couldn't find the second part, it also had a different title but it was the same video. Oh well, happens pardon.gif

As for politics... I'm fed up that subject. biggrin.gif

But why do you guys have to argue about this... The off topic is filled with boring, useless threads so it’s not like one post in an old thread will make a difference, besides at least this subject is about something, unlike other threads. Anyway, we have enough admins that will step in if a rule has been broken so don't worry.

You’re worried about cluttering up the forum with an old thread norailgunner, yet you just cluttered 1 page of a thread with nothing. pardon.gif

Yeah especially your own troops when using them.

depleted uranium also used to armour plating on tanks which saves lives. so that argument is kinda redundant.

Yeah. Gulf war syndrome is actually beneficial to armour crews!

On the subject of moderation, if you see a post that's breaking the rules, just report it. Multiple moderators saw this thread well before this whole mess started and we decided not to moderate. The people here insulting the other members are the ones causing the problems, not the person who initially posted in the old thread.

Are you suggesting that tanks should go to war without armour?

I think that even you can see the idiocy of this insulting strawman argument, and I'm not going to validate it with a response. Put your critical thinking hat on to divine what I possibly could have been saying.

It is really disturbing that the USA is using nuclear waste as ammunition to liberate people and poinsoning them in the same turn.

The Penetration argument is also worth nothing since Rheinmatall has proffen that even better penetration is possible with tungsten carbide penetrators, see L55 cannon and DM63 Ammunition.

Only drawback...it's more expensive.

It's the same with cluster bombs, all of NATO exept the USA have banned the use of it.

But this is to exspect since nopone can winder that a administration that does not care for the well fare of its own people even wastes a cent into the wellfare of people it "liberates".

Not sure about tungsten carbide, but recent evidence suggests tungsten-cobalt and tungsten-nickel-cobalt are even more toxic, causing deadly cancer in mice just one week after a small capsule of the stuff was implanted.

Do you know that some aircraft also have DU mounted on control surface for balancing?

Basically every metal is toxic when fine particles or even worse, vapors are inhaled. I used to work in KMW factory for light armoured vehicles made from high grade aluminium alloys...we had to wear protection mask 7,5 hours a day practically...the welders needed weldings helmes with accu powered filters and overpressure systems. nevertheless im currebntly considered unfit for this kind of work due to aluminosis (aluminum dust lung) Even wood dust is know to be toxic, every carpenter is tought so since the mid 90s.

But in any case Tungsten lacks the emission of hard radiation.

Yes, and there is a scale of toxicity with the byproducts of burning uranium very high up there. Depleted uranium may have some radioactivity but that is not the primary concern here.

Do you know that some aircraft also have DU mounted on control surface for balancing?

Yep. And I guess that's okay as long as it's shielded and not on fire or being handled regularly.
