philcommando 0 Posted February 22, 2005 hahaha!..u guys sure have estoric tastes, from waste material to delicious tidbits over clouds( i'm sticking to my big macs)...but then, clouds do have a way of being what u perceive them to be. The sub in the pic is by leon, release months back, placed there to stir up further interest for the ww2 mods. Many just assumed the sea in ofp is not playable and becomes brain-locked where addons on sea is concerned. 70% of ofp is sea - a waste if we dont do anything to it besides making it a mirror for narcasistic folks to look at the powder on their faces . Developement will be slow, but it shall be conquered! gandalf, thanks for the tips, will try to see how best it can be implemented, for actually my addons are merely atmospherics and not crucial to actual gameplay and would hate it to be the cause of lag. dabitup: lol!, i'll admit i make pretty much senseless and useless addons "putting all of this time/work into ofp, for nothing at all," as u said. Its all done with a purpose - to prove that there is still life in the old horse we call ofp1. Rather than to spend time and effort to make another M4, why not use it for something else? Furthermore, once crazy addons' concepts of making it are grasped, cant it be adapted for other more serious projects? philcommando 0 Posted February 22, 2005 initially i did add shadows to it, but because it is a building class addon, u would have to go to video options to enable the shadows, which means turning on every objects' shadow!! ..that's gonna cost u framerates. philcommando 0 Posted February 22, 2005 yeah, me too, wish i could have the LOCKON game's clouds, the ability to do it is present..but guess until INTEL has come up with a superchip for the home computer ( the kind US is using for nuclear bomb simulation), just have to wait. hehe...guess u guys would love to have lockon's clouds, but i am very sure u wont want its ground - ITS ALL FLAT and only a few low quality onground 3d targets!!!! that's why it can afford to have clouds like those and have no lag. Last I checked you checked wrong. 2.53GHz ATi 9700Pro 200GB Hard drives and 512MB Ram Why not have shadows, man? Just because people got low end PC's doesn’t mean they cant make 2 pbo's (one with shadows and 1 without). Its called an option, to make the add-on more flexible for those who wanna try, if it lags, who cares, just switch it out or off. Also for realism, why hold back? Â Philcommando, don't even think of being defeatist, for all the criticism that can be directed at your great pioneer work, you tirelessly don't cease to widen the inventory of things in OFP, I beg you please to keep breaking the grounds and boundaries and keep pushing your work out of the door and into the open, no matter how crappy some ppl might think things are, there are still people like me that just love it!!! At least it is certainly a hint on a possibility to do "smoke" clouds, by reworking the script generating the tonal mist. but how ressource friendly such cloud would be? as lots of tonal mist from the example are not really ressource friendly. I have taken ofp1 to the extreme with this addon and anything further is an performance issue with the chip and not with ofp engine, unless someone else can do a better version. Lets wait for mapfact's team,or hardrock, or footmuch's versions:) PS.Smith, err...should my addon have shadows, for sure it wont create lag as it can use a resolution lod with less than 6 faces. What i meant by shadow lagging the game is that as a building class object, ( if u noticed buildings ingame) in order to have shadows, u would have to go to video options to enable shadows, which results in not only the clouds having shadows, the rest of the objects in your view distance will have shadows too!...lagfest!!!!!!!!!! is it necessary?
