System/Game Issues

Recommended Posts

Ok in MP, I run my own server with 1 other person. Now in earlier versions i have NEVER had a problem. Now, after an hour or so I lose sound. 10 Seconds later, the game freezes for about 5 seconds then automatically restarts.

Info:

Windows XP

1GB Ram

Radeon 9700 Pro

2.66ghz Intel P4

SBLive Sound

With about 45mb of addons. (sebnam and mfcti)

Do you have problems only in MP? Ever have problems in SP? Using -nomap? Have the latest drivers for your soundcard? (sadly that isn't saying a lot), does your motherboard have onboard sound? If so could you remove the SB card (they're baaaaaaad) and give your onboard sound a try? smile_o.gif

Latest sound yes, onboard no. Yet this is the only game I have had this problem. But crashing shouldnt be caused by the card. Its hard to play a SP game for a long time.

Just start OFP, place a man in the editor and preview it...go eat and watch some telly, and come back after 1 hour. If it's still on, wait another hour. Or you could just start a SP mission and do the same things (leave it on for some hours). You don't actually have to play the mission...

What I mean by playing a SP game for a long time is that, I beat most of em in 20 min.

I suggest WinXP is the problem. Hang me, but I`m sure WinXP is the worst thing you can have on youre PC, especialy when you upgraded to SP2. I´m only an MCP so don`t count to much on my oppinion. wink_o.gif

btw. Wasn`t there many problems reportet, related to soundblaster live cards?

tounge_o.gif Whatever....

I run Windows XP SP2 and a SB Live card and have yet to experience ANY problems. I also run my onboard sound in tandem with the Live card during MP games w/ Teamspeak - its pretty cool because you get voice through headset/onboard and full game sound through your speakers/SBLive).

I get the crackling with the SBLive but no reboots.

I can't tell if your mb is Intel by your post or if you just mean an Intel Processor... but check if you are running on a VIA chipset.

A friend of mine had the reboot problem quite often. It seemed he reinstalled every other day. We came to terms that it was probably his motherboard (VIA chipset w/ AMD processor). He's recently upgraded to Intel-based board (I think) w/ a Pentium 4 and he has had no trouble since then. However, it could be coincidence... I'll admit that...

But, if he comes across this post, I'll let him tell you the specifics himself.

Could be software related but normally rebooting is caused by heat.I would check the dust status around your cpu, power supply and video card

Especially if it has gradually gotten worse over time, I suspect heat.

Possible power supply on its way out too (normally a power supply failing just shuts off)

Give this a try if you have SBlive 5.1:

Go to sound and audio devices in control panel, then on the volume tab click on advanced under you speaker settings and change to a diferent configuration other than 5.1, i can not confirm this atm but i remember it would work this way.

OPF+SBlive+5.1= freeze+ctd+system reboot crazy_o.gif .

Note that you may need to change this back to 5.1 to play your other games properly, while the drivers available for this soundcard are not great, OPF's sound quality isnt state of the art either and i do get good enough sound with other aplications/games.

I dont have via chipset mobo either wink_o.gif . Hope this helps you guys.
