The Lost world Mod - jarrasic park

Recommended Posts

From what I've seen, you have to make the civilians West or Resistance, otherwise the meat-eaters won't try to eat them.

I was wondering what the effect of using this in combination with ECP v1.085 might be, since units can pass information about the location of enemies to each other, using that mod.

I guess it would also result in talking dinosaurs, if you didn't disable the dynamic talking.

that wouldnt work since those ECP AI features only work with BIS units unless they are incorparated into the addon

Yeah, I tried it out. Well, it was worth a try. Would have made a funny video.

Dr.Grant, please ask the creator to make unit Groups of typical sizes for each dinosaur species for quick placement.

You might also want the Jurassic park vehicles with drivers on the West and Resistance sides, including all civilians on those sides, also.

ya.. the group placement thingy would be a great idea as now putting a pack of Deinonychus takes a while tounge2.gif

Man, those Deino's are mean little buggers!

Also, maybe something could be done to simulate hunger? Right now, the meat-eaters are more like Jurassic serial killers than animals trying to scrounge up some food. One they kill a large dino, they shouldn't be hungry for a while and shouldn't attack unless threatened.

I would imagine that a pack of those deinon's would be like a school of piranha fish: any animal they take down would get eaten up quickly.

yes, this a good idea. I tried it a while ago but it kept crashing. I can't script well. We tried to get the zombie mod to help but they didn't reply. crazy_o.gif If any one wants to, they send us the code. biggrin_o.gif

There is a Raptor in Civilian > Men that is poorly textured and looks like a giant chicken.  : )  It should probably go in Resistance dinos, once it is textured better.

I've been getting some "not divisable by zero" errors that seem to have to do with "herblist".

I'm working on a demo mission for the beta.  Having lots of fun, just with the testing.  These dinos sure can cover a lot of ground in a short amount of time!

Is there any way to keep the dinos that are biting from lighting up with a muzzle flash?

Sometimes the dinos seem to kill themselves from their biting. I think that the "glancing blow" damage coming off of their chosen targets may be killing them.

Also, you might consider setting the dispersion on their biting shots very high. This might help with some of the missing they do when they try to bite.

What an amazing OFP experience you have created!

Oops, I included that? That is the first dino I ever made. It sucks.

Anyway, I made a cool function that factors in hunger. The animal gets hungary over type expanencaly. It sets to 1 when it eats.

#SAFE

_index = 0

#FORLOOP

_ka = (_Albt KnowsAbout (herblist select (_index)))

?(_ka > 1) and (_Albt distance (herblist select (_index)) < _Hunger): goto "Hunt"

_index = _index + 1

?!(_index == _totherb): goto "FORLOOP"

~4

_Hunger=(_Hunger+_Hunger)*(0.5 + (1/(score _Albt)))

Goto "SAFE"

_Hunger starts at 125 m. _Hunger is now the engagement distance in meters. Score is like how much it has eaten. After it eats, it wont chase you because its not hungary. It will stick around the kill for a long time. Comments?

Sounds good.  Taller meat-eating dinos should have a longer hunger distance because they can see up and over bushes and trees(maybe 250 meters, maximum?), unless dinos were(are?) near-sighted.  I guess we aren't doing this to be flipping the bird at a near-sighted T-Rexes, so maybe that would be anti-fun realism?

How does it work as a group?  Is a whole group satisfied by one meal?  Maybe the mass of the eaten dino can be compared to the mass of the total eating dino group?

Will they still fight when they are threatened or harrassed?

These dinos surprise me! They will climb up on vehicles and on each other! I was behind a wall, thinking I was safe from the Albertosaurus, because A.I. doesn't go through walls, right? Well, I shot at him a few times with the shotgun and that ticked him off and he crashed right through the wall, knocking it down, and bit me dead! LOL!

I also had one of the deinon's jump up through the second-floor window of a building I was in from the ground floor outside and fight me in the room I was in!

Hi.

I think it would be good to include that hunger-script in your next release, because it's quite strange to see four Deinos hunting down a whole herd of Parasaurolophus.

Quote[/b] ]

How does it work as a group?  Is a whole group satisfied by one meal?

I don't think that's too important to take into consideration. As seen in the movies, only the small dinos (e.g. Compies, Velociraptor, etc.) hunt in groups, the big ones (nearly) always appeared alone.

And if it's a small prey, they simply don't eat as much... wink_o.gif

Right, but only one of them actually does the killing, so does the WHOLE group get their hunger satisfied by the meal, or are the ones who didn't kill anything yet still eager to kill?

If the leader of the group isn't hungry, then he can set the whole group to be satisfied by ordering them to Hold Fire, but what if the leader of the group didn't do the killing?

And some of these dinos are simply too small to satisfy the hunger of some of the larger dinos...

Here's that zero divisor error I got:

zeroerror.jpg

And do the T-Rex or deinon types ever attack each other, according to theory or the movie?  Which of these dinos will avoid a confrontation in favor of an easy meal?

And does each dino type have a "scariness" factor that causes fleeing, as a tank might do to troops that have no AT weapons?

If a certain type of meat-eater dino will attack its own kind, then maybe you should put those dino types in both the East and Resistance groups.

Found another problem:  Civilians, even if they have their sides changed to West, won't be attacked by East or Resistance if they aren't armed with weapons that have ammo.  The dinosaurs will actually follow them around as if they are the Pied Piper, even doing a dance around them!   biggrin_o.gif   This might be good for scripted sequences where you want the fast-running chicks (which run faster than the male civilians) fleeing the dinos without being eaten, but it looks a bit silly when a mini T-rex and a lady in a skirt are standing there as if they just met on a blind date.

yup.. im thinking about some dinosaur poo too

tounge2.gif

Noooo,do you know how long it takes to wash that stuff off of those jeeps?!-

In a way in JP the T-rex was similar to near sighted...okay maybe not but more around the lines of vision based on movement, rather odd if ya ask me that you can only see somethin if its moving but yaknow.

lmao at the t-rex and lady in skirt blind date thing rofl.

Hey, if the Comsognathus' aren't going to attack, then maybe they should be in the West grouping? I've got A.I. troops reporting them as "man" and unloading too much ammo trying to hit those tiny hit-boxes. lol

Also, any way you could make JPMod ECP v1.085 compatible?

Finally, if you create new ammo types for the dinos when they attack, can you get them custom impact sounds that sound like jaws snapping, flesh tearing, blood splashing?

Well, I don't know much about scripting, but perhaps there's a way to set all group members to "not hungry"...?

And some of these dinos are simply too small to satisfy the hunger of some of the larger dinos...

Well, as I said before, in my opinion that aspect isn't too important to consider. I don't know if there's a way to detect the size of a unit, and even if there's one, that would most likely result in an unnecessary scripting excess just to have this dino attack a second time...

Wouldn't it be okay to say this dino just eats what he has hunted, then rests a while to recover from the exertion of hunting?

I'm sure that you could actually add a size field to the addon, if there isn't.

I just don't want to see a T-Rex lose his appetite for supper just because he swallowed a Mussasaurus. That would be like Shaquille O'Neal having nothing but a Saltine cracker for dinner. Ain't gonna happen.

The lower the rank of the prey, the lower the score the hunter recives when he kills it. In the script I have now, the hunger index is conected to the score. The mission maker should set large animals to high rank and small animals to low rank.

Oh and I don't know how to make it ecp compatible.

Can you get with the ECP crew to find out what the incompatibility is and how to fix it?

I consider ECP an indispensable OFP engine improvement and all good mods should be able to work with it.

I want this so that the people will say something when they are attacked, so maybe there needs to be a custom voice pack so that when checkflee = true or armed = false the humans will scream?

And that was a really good idea for meal size!  But I still need to know if the member of the dino group/herd eats a beast, does it feed the whole group/herd?  What if the leader of the group/herd eats a beast?

And that kinda means that a soldier who is a Private "Tastes Great, Less Filling!", but a Colonel is very bad for a girl dino's figure!

Maybe there is a connection between the shiny rank insignia and the habits of crows to collect shiny objects?  (They say dinos and birds are related...)

I have made underwater textures that look so good when using OWPTW. Also lots of new plants to replace the old, ugly ones. I am also working on the dino scripts trying to make them hungry/not hungry.

Here are some very large trees inspired by King Kong.

http://img.photobucket.com/albums....-58.jpg

Here is an interactive GUI that alows you to access many things from computer terminals placed all around the island. This will be a very important part of the missons. The picture shows the power control screen but you can acess many other things with the menu at the top. Power, Fences, Visiter center, Control center, Dock.

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v479/Aahz/power.jpg

From the control room you can turn on and off locks on doors and fences; you can access cameras all over the park to observe the animals and more.

Here is a city I made a long time ago for an other mod but they are dead now so we will release it under JP.

Also the Dinosaurs don't shoot you any more!

I you have any suggestions please post.

I remember the days when I used to play tresspasser, and I also remember that small city, it had some growth on the road, like trees, grass etc. You should make it look like there havent been anyone living there for some time (if that's what your aiming for) try adding some grass and maby some tree's on the road. Just a suggestion

Looks good though thumbs-up.gif
