Lowlands Warrior: Leusderheide & Havelte terrain

Recommended Posts

I am proud to announce the release of 2 terrains (islands), o behalf of their creators.

Havelte, by Coolhand

hav3.sized.jpg

Havelte Island is a representation of the real-world town of Havelte. The woods to the south-west are

scale 1:1, the rest is an impression of the Dutch polder landscape.

The real Havelte is a small town, in south-west of the province of Drente. Havelte lies in the middle

of a fairly big rural area and several characteristic villages. It is also known as “the pearl of

Drentheâ€. Besides nature, there are several monumental buildings in and around Havelte, like the

churches in Havelte and Wapserveen, the domain Overcinge, old Saxon farms, a windmill and sheepcage

with herd. Havelte has an extensive network of cycling-tracks, a swimming pool, an 18-hole golfcourse,

midgetgolf and a big playground. (None of them featuring on this island)

The Leusderheide military training area by Wouter

lh2.sized.jpg

It is safe to say that this is currently Lowlands Warrior's flagship terrain add-on. Most Dutch (ex-)military will undoubdedly remember this muddy hellhole.. smile_o.gif

This map is a representation of the Leusderheide military training area, situated between Zeist

and Amersfoort. The Leusderheide is the largest military trainingground in the Netherlands. It is

used by the Dutch ground forces, Air force and Marines. The terrain is often used by the driver

and armored schools, which are located in Amersfoort. Basic training is conducted here for most of

the Netherlands' Royal army.

During the second world war, the Leusderheide was the biggest German execution ground in the Netherlands. 240 people were buried on 21 different locations. 4 of these locations are marked with a simple wooden cross. This virtual representation only has one of these crosses.

If you see a lonely wooden cross somewhere on this terrain, please remember why it is standing there.

There is also an interim update for the Yugoslavian militia and Leopard tank. There are still known issues for the Leopard tank. We are doing our best to fix these.

You can download the islands here

Excellent. The training ground has been much wanted, but the Havelte terrain is a complete (and very pleasent) surprise. It's nice to have some European terrain that isn't in WW2 style.

EDIT: Put ZIP download versions of the islands on ofpbase. Havelte Terrain (ZIP, 1.8MB) / Leusderheide Training Ground Terrain (ZIP, 3.2MB)

Wow, this is great! biggrin_o.gif The Leusderheide map looks exceptional. Some really interesting training scenarios to play out on that one!

just a small problem with the LEO.... it´s unusable now... the sound works.. but not the rest... a rifle shot makes it fly away like it wheighs nothing, and it "floats" in the air, you cant drive it (it just slowly slides backwards-sideways) and when you mount it you hear the same sound as you do when you drive into some fixed object...

but the good thing is... now the sound works biggrin_o.gif

have you really beta tested it before release???

other then that, everything is great biggrin_o.gif

the "exercise field" reminds me of i field i´ve been to here in sweden biggrin_o.gif

just wonderful...

Yes, but I uploaded the modelling-in-progress version.

OMG crazy_o.gif

Now the "working" version is available as v1.0C

Keep in mind that the LODs still need a lot of work.

A little update for mission makers: If you use the command 'careless' on tanks, then they will use the multiple roads. With any other command sooner or later the AI will wonder of, sorry about that.

Hope you enjoy playing. tounge_o.gif

Outstanding guys... simply outstanding. Leusderheide in particular feels very "real" when you're trogging around with a rifle, and it's the perfect place to use tanks. For the first time in ages, I had enough room to get my troop of Leopards shifting formation and engaging enemy targets without having to dodge towns and mountains.

Seriously, these are the best islands I've seen in OFP for a long time. Well done lads, bloody well done biggrin_o.gif

bug:

If67 = tree in water ( a tree with a hut btw )

I suppose you mean on Havelte.

There is a sunken ruin on that map, somewhere in an uiterwaarde. It is supposed to represent The Netherlands after all.

No it's on the Leusderheide, damn. Anyway thanks for the notice. It must have slipped through the testing, sorry about that. If there are other bugs I will correct them in a newer version.

Cheers,

Wouter

Hm, judging by the screenshots, the Leusderheide looks exactly like the training ground in Budel/Weert, beneath the german Luftwaffe barracks.

There were always F-16s flying over our head, and we heard some tanks (which we've never seen). Beside this, we've been with some Dutch policemen and soldiers at the firing range.

Ah, memories... (btw. I loved the Budels beer) biggrin_o.gif
