Where is the updates?

Recommended Posts

Although BIS/CM does support the community a lot, they seem to not really care about people like quibbly/radishville/fraghaus/etc who spend tons of money to make this game what it is. If they would just give a short answer to the question and not try to dodge it then people would be satisfied and wouldn't be so upset. I know if I hosted a server like these guys I would expect at least some response as to when the fixes would be available. I'm not trying to say they are doing a bad job but they certainly aren't doing the best. I for one am glad for all the updates they give us but some things are more important than new vehicles and things like that (ie. major bugs and thourough testing before releasing patches). And like quibbly said, why don't they make life easier for mission creators/scripters? I for one have seen many people have to do trial and error on many things without any help from BIS/CM. They are the people who bring new entertaining things to the game (which keeps it alive). And I will ask again WHY DON'T THEY RUN THEIR OWN PUBLIC SERVER? If they did they would actually find out the bugs that people experience and it would help them out. I know they have more than enough money to run at least one server that rocks if independent people can run them. How many companies do you know that don't even use their own product to it's fullest extent?

For those who answered, without being a jerk, thanks. For those who looked at the message, without really reading the message, pay a little more attention to detail. As a owner of the game, and a person how hosts a server (for free), I have a right to ask the above questions! Most of the questions I asked, BIS has not answered them all.

It would be better if BIS would put a general answer to the questions on the website. Also, on the website, they should have more information (ie: tutorials). Most of the links we receive, the information is not always correct, or updated for the newest version.

The forums are nice and I appreciate everything BIS has done for the gaming community. This game is above any other multiplayer game on the market.

To end this, I have every right to ask questions. That is the nature of the forums. For those who like to use derogatory comments, it's time you grow up and try not to hamper the freedom of speech (in this case, type). Insulting a person is not considered a freedom of speech (in case you make some comment).

Thanks 3dmushroom. You hit the nail on the head. I host the games because I want the gaming community to have a fun place to play. BIS should see this and give a proper response. I myself, spend $2000.00 a month on the T-3 and just dropped another $1700.00 on the server. This is only for a game in which I make no money from. At one point, if I can't get proper information from BAI, I will be pulling OFP from my server. I know a few other top servers who will be doing the same! Then, everyone will get to join up and play with someone hosting a game via their cable modem (wow, 2 players..isn't this cool?)

First, let me apologize - I was a bit harsh, as was pointed out by the moderators.

It's just frustrating that people demand that the developers answer them personally, that's all. We have a great support base here, and it seems not to matter.

For example: it sounds like quibbly is going to remove OFP from his servers if BIS doesn't answer him properly. C'mon, isn't a bit silly?

Also, being directed to "some FAQ" is somehow bad? So what if Suma doesn't personally answer your e-mail or carefully tailor responds to your post? Geez, I'd rather he develop than answer the forum. He obviously reads the forums, but probably doesn't have the time nor inclination to respond to each and every demand. Think about how many updates were released in such a short period of time.

Do you honestly think that this could have been accomplished while the developers chit-chat with you on every little thing?

I work in a tech support environment and some customers won't be satisfied unless the developers speak to them in person. Well, guess what? Developers are too busy developing to be talking to you. Simple as that.

Again, sorry for being harsh, but the fact that you run a server on your own time and money doesn't mean BIS or Suma or anyone else owes you anything other than a "thank you."

Thank you.

Obijuan,

I appreciate your comment, but We, the gamers and hosting companies, made this game what is it!

Since your just a tech support person, you probably really do not have a large Networking/programming background. For me, I have a degree in Computer Science and I am a MCSE. I have created many business applications. When a company calls, and would like to speak with me, I talk.

For the amount of money I have spent hosting this game for the gaming community, I'm entitled to a response. The response is needed to see if this game is going to be worth hosting much longer.

Thanks again for your comment. Just go back to answering your telephone and reading answers out of your tech book!

Nobody said that Suma or any of the really busy developers have to answer the question, as long as the question is answered by someone who actually knows what is going on instead of everyone speculating on things.

Ok. Lets just end the subject here. Accept my apology OBiJuan, you just crossed me the wrong way. It also seems everyone went way off the subject. I just want information so I can continue to host a great server for everyone. This game is wonderful and has tons of potential. Not once have I degraded BIS, but only praise. I just feel information is not being processed for the public in a timely manner, nor do I feel the questions are properly being address by BIS. The answers should come from a representitive of BIS, not just someone saying what they "heard".

Everyone have a wonderful day,

God Bless,

Quibbly

2)  What are the future plans of OFP?

3)  Are you going to allow the dedicated server to be able to turn off all the microphones?

4)  How can we block the XML bug which is causing the servers to crash like crazy.

5) Why can't you guys create a dedicated server setting to run as a service?  We shouldn't have to create our own, or purchase a program to do that for us.

6)  Is your Dedicated server really setup to be ran as a service? If it was, we could type in the commands to make that so (for 2000, XP Pro)

7)  Can we have more room to look at player ID's when using listplayers?

8)  When the admins select "kickoff" on a players name, sometimes it doesn't work, put when I do that via command, it works?

9)  Are you going to add a join feature like Counterstrike?  <span id='postcolor'>

quibbly,

i am afraid my answers will not be very usefull for you, but if you feel you need them, here they are:

1) Probably between one week and two monthes from now.

2) I cannot reveal anything about it yet.

3) We are considering it. Probably yes.

4) By blocking http transfers (port 80).

5) This can easily be done by anyone, the resulting application can be distributed among web servers.

6) No.

7) We are considering how to do it.

8) I do not know why.

9) No.

Thank you Ondrej Spanel. I appreciate your open honesty with the questions. You represent BIS well!

For everyone who likes a good CTF match, please come to my server around 7:00pm Central time to play on a new map I created. A few users did some beta testing with me and everyone seems to enjoy the map. It's a modification of Runway. Tons of vehicles with Vehicle respawn. Uses all of the new weapons (Aug etc..) This map includes airborne units as well.

Hope everyone has a wonderful and blessed day,

Quibbly,

It is due to bug. It will be fixed in next patch. It happens when you are in "Game in progress" screen, not during mission or side selection.
