Recommended Posts

beggining of the end

ppl staryed on the ofp2 forums even if they did`nt play opf1 already because they thought opf2 bring`em back to the ofp1 times. I don`t know if this brings a good or bad results (relase date) for the game, but I know that community will change:|

I mean, I`m here just for couple days, adn I still enjoy plaing the ofp, but there are some ppl that are going to army, or simply the`re growing up, and slowly screwing computer games. I mean....there are other things... like work, (marriage maybe:D), I know I`ts also souns stupid, but It`s sad to lose fellows who are here so long...

I don`t mind the delay.

There are other games coming out that looks promising that will keep me satisfied for some time.

Furthermore I have the faith that BIS will hopefully max out the potential in OPF2.

About those people leaving the forums...I bet a bulk of them will come back for OPF2, none the less always sad when people leave though.

Well, by Spring 2006 ill be finishing the last year at school. Then I will go to the recruit of the portuguese army, then enter the army, then qualify to be a Ranger of the Special Forces.

I dont think ill like games by that time. 3 years of waiting for OFP2. 3 damn years... sad_o.gif

Let's all hope Ubi does not corrode the hands of BIS. I don't want to see OFP get turned to sh*t like they did with the Rainbow Six franchise.

If Ubi has any, and I do mean any influence on OFP2, you can bet I will not spend a dime on it, or any other BIS product afterwards. Strong words, but I do mean them. It was extremely disheartening when I bought not one, but two copies of Rainbow Six: Raven Shield, and saw what they did to the series. The only comfort I had was knowing OFP (and Combat Mission by Battlefront.com) was still around for my "war-gamer" needs.

I have full confidence Battlefront will never stray from their hardcore realism edict, but with the more mainstream developers it's still a big ? as to what they may do when presented with $$$$.

wasn't the story that Ubi is buying Codemasters just a rumour that has been officially denied?

Being a Gamer makes you age quicker... thats the terrible conclusion i came to. You find yourself finding things to make time pass quicker in order to get the game you are waiting for...

Oh well... Spring 2006... that only means Rome Total War has to last me 1 1/2 years, instead of 8 months... I hope CA are aware of that.

Codemasters is on the verge of being bought-out by Ubisoft. I'm sure this has something to do with many of their recent "delays". Codemasters also pushed back the game "Wartime Command", and RTS being developed by the IL2 Sturmovik team. Not to mention, Codemasters has completely pulled Colin McRae Rally from the PS2 platform.

I'm sure as the merger's dust settles, new news will arise.

For god sake this is getting frustrating and honestly quite pathetic. I just can't see the reason for this behavior. BIS has to be allowed to confirm what the publisher has said.

BIS haven't given us any info since may 2003. According to the official BIS statements the game will be released late 2004 and involve South East Asia, Europe and Africa around 1970 but when looking at flashpoint2.com and the codemasters site the game will be delayed to 2006 and it appears to have a new theme.

So will the OFP 2 be released late 2004 as the official BIS site says, and will it involve South East Asia, Europe and Africa around 1970?

At least those are the facts BIS has given to the community..

Hehe, yeah, when someone asks me when the game is coming out from now on I'm simply going to say 'Late 2004'. Now to spread the word... biggrin_o.gif

Just to confirm that the release date has been moved back and to address this rumour of Codemasters being sold, it's all lies biggrin_o.gif A mistake that was in MCV last week and will be corrected this week.

It's gone be from the modern era, not from 1970's, it's says that on flashpoint2.com.

They should have said something about this release date long ago, whats waiting them?

The last official statement says it will be during the 70's but the flashpoint2 site has a line saying "modern military equipment". If they have changed the theme they should perhaps tell us instead of making us guess.

My guess is that they have no clue what the game will be about more than that it will be something modern. This means that they haven't got a storyline or anything else yet except for perhaps some work on the engine.

It's obvious that BIS have run into somekind of problems/difficulties and judging by their total silence I don't feel very confident that the game even will be released. The Poseidon engine is from 1997 I think so it will be 9 years old by 2006. It's like someone would release a game now with a modified version of the Duke Nukem 3D engine.

If BIS wants the community to stop speculating an easy solution is to give us some info.

I am sure the ppl at BIS have other commitments then OFP2

They are doing what they can do

They will let you know what you need to know

They will release the game when its ready for release

(bug free, multi gunners, turrets on planes, collision dammage on boats etc etc, hey Bis wink_o.gif  )

and if the whinges out there don't like it then there is the door, use it.

Yet the poseidon engine is way ahead of its time, and can still impress people today in most areas (graphics,AI,functionality)... I wouldnt be surprised it they update the engine so it can once again blow away all competition for the next few years

The Poseidon engine does not impress people graphically.

Personally I think it looks great (especially with very high quality models as in VBS1) but that isn't the reaction I get from a lot of people I try and introduce to OFP.

I am sure that if BIS were able to tell you anything, they would.

well ok maybe it doesnt impress people graphically ALL the time... But show someone some of the unedited pics from the 'opf engine combat photography' thread and he'll say "Is that game out yet?" wink_o.gif

OFP does look pretty good considering that it's a DX8 game and it doesn't even use all of the nice features DX8 offers. The main problem with OFP are the animations that are way behind of newer games. The animations weren't even that good when the game was released. So some static screenshots might look awesome but a game is supposed to be played with minimum 30 frames per second.

The only reason why OFP is still alive is because it has no competition. Sure, games like BF and Söldner are out but they are not even close to the realism in OFP. The other fairly realistic shooters like the rainbow six series are not even the same genre as OFP.

I am glad that they have pushed back the release date so it wont be the pile of crap that soldner was when it was released... sad_o.gif Well, I wonder if the BAS team will come back with some new addons now that we all have to wait longer...?

Having picked up soldner solely to see how they tried to implement destructable buildings and extremely large land areas...

the viewdistance (lod issues?) sucked compared to OFP, and the rough terrain does not lend itself to company+ armor manuvers.

(What I want to see from OFP2: standardized LOD levels in a p3d dev.spec, so that everything balances; and keep the plains.)

While the simplified buildings are nice, VBS apparently has that as well.

(You hear that 3wx? That can be your moment to redefine OFP.)

The destructable buildings are a farce without anything other than a c4 bomb. We've seen some intitial work done with replacing objects with pre-destroyed wrecks, that should be more satisfactory in the mean time.

(What if... take the example of Hawk's Nimitz... place a generator script on the wrp, so that the ingame placement was dynamic? As buildings can be rigged in a fashion to allow for actions like doors, ladders, and waypoints, why not spawn a replacement when damage is x?)

they did bother to put in -twomon support, but it is buggy when switching display modes. OFP is auto-correcting.

(Thank you, and for -debug, and for -window, and for -x and -y, and all the others, and most importantly for telling us about them.)

Beyond that... I was just thinking to myself wondering why OFP ever bothered with the civilian market in the first place anyway. It still is better than anything else out there, and even if the Spanels go get themselves fast cars and never show up for another day of work, the wreckage of OFP2 would have more potential than all the other pieces of hud out there.

The fact that they are still busy coding away, and publicly have high hopes for porting to the confines of the xbox makes me really curious as to the dark majiks to come forth. So, how about some .plans?

That's a good point I think, and at the moment no other game like OFP is even announced. rock.gif

Perhaps it's this fact, in which BI is trusting and they they have all the time of the world to get on with OFP 2

I think they have enough at the moment, OFP had been selled over 1 million times + RH and Resistance + VBS, I would say that's enough for the moment, but I think, that OFP 2 will have to be extremly good and that further delays are not acceptable, not for us and not for them wink_o.gif

It's more then a month since this happend and still no word from BIS. Is it that hard for the webmaster to change the date, I have already found the text in the "source"

(Internet Exp. or whatever browser and look on "view", then "source" or "source code")

Quote from that page where the release date is:

Quote[/b] ]<td width="85"><img src="../pics/games/of2krabice.gif" alt="OFP2" width="81" height="106" border="0"></td><td><div align="center"><p><font size="5">Expected release of Operation Flashpoint 2 is late 2004</font></p>

</div></td></tr>

If you have Dreamweaver it's pretty easy to change this.

I'm going nuts becouse of nobody is telling us nothing about this.

EDIT: I'm not doing this to flame anyone or be rude to anyone.
