TheRedBaron 0 Posted July 4, 2004 My game is freezing for a second every 5 sec and in the troubleshooting FAQ it says that if you have a game controller installed on you computer but it is not plugged in that also might cause the freezing. I have a controller installed that I no longer have but cannot delete it from the control panel. It says that i cannot delete it and that I have to delete it from the device manager. The problem is I cannot find it in the device manager. Does anyone know what I would find it under its called Cyborg 3d USB but I cannot find it.
Mister Frag 0 Posted July 4, 2004 The comment doesn't apply to USB-based controllers, it applies to devices hooked up to the gameport only. See if you can find your controller in Control Panel -> System -> Hardware -> Device Manager -> Human Interface Devices. If it is there, select it, right-click, and choose Uninstall. If your system pauses every few seconds, see what programs might be running in the background -- instant messaging clients, spyware, even Task Manager will cause brief but constant delays if left open, especially when the Processes tab is showing. theavonlady 1 Posted July 4, 2004 Search The FAQ for "input delay" and see if anything else mentioned there might be the cause of your freezes.
Mister Frag 0 Posted July 4, 2004 One other thing you should check is whether or not the Disk Indexing Service is running. It's great if you use your system for office tasks and frequently do file searches that look for words inside documents. To speed this process up, the Disk Indexing Service continously opens documents of the type it understands (Microsoft Office documents, text files, OLE structured storage files), and builds a database of the contents. If you don't want the slowdowns associated with this background activity, use Windows Explorer to access "My Computer", select your hard disk(s), and bring up the Properties dialog. Uncheck the "Allow Indexing Service to index this disk for fast file searching" checkbox, and apply the changes to the entire drive (the root and all subfolders).
