War music

Recommended Posts

Nick Glennie-Smith's end credits of We Were Soldiers never fails to get me all emotional  sad_o.gif

                Especially:

"The Mansions of the Lord"

To fallen soldiers let us sing

where no rockets fly nor bullets wing

Our broken brothers [and sisters] let us bring

to the mansions of the Lord

No more bleeding no more fight

No prayers pleading through the night

just divine embrace, eternal light

in the mansions of the Lord

Where no mothers cry and no children weep

We will stand and guard tho the angels sleep

All through the ages safely keep the mansions of the Lord

"adagio for Strings" - Samual Barber, Platoon. differently my favorite war movie song.

I have a William Orbit techno version of this song that frankly, kicks ass.

I dunno if anyone else heared this stuff, but recently I recived a CD with soviet music during world war 2,and it hasn`t left my winamp selection ever since.

I do not know when it was composed but I am sure it had great propaganda value and propably used extensively for soldiers.

I also have no idea who are the compositors(could be great classics judging from my culture lacking self) but the music gives you a strong patriotic feeling, something like "it has to be done" or "one last effort".

The movie score for the last of the mohicans is the greatest ever imo
Last of The Mohicians, wish I knew who that was.

I second this.

*digsincdpile*

*readsbooklet*

Composer was a guy named Trevor Jones...

Additionally, I like those Vietnam movies with all the good 60s/70s music. wink_o.gif

So far Gladiator has the best music I've heard. The Band of Brothers theme music was great also. It fitted perfectly to the opening scene.

When talking about military music in general, not just in movies, then the USSR national anthem is just great. Not as good as the finnish Jaegermarch though. wink_o.gif

i suppose i will sound a bit odd with you folks naming off all these composers and stuff but nothing gets me in a killing mood more than "Hey Joe" by Jimi Hendrix or "Fortunate Son" by CCR. i also find that when i am doing sniper missions on ofp i am at my best when listening to Lynyrd Skynyrd

Motörhead - Dogs of War

Quote[/b] ]Stand or fall, live or die (Stand)

Strong and true to the end (Now)

Fly the flag, let them see (Sky)

We will never bend the knee (Don't fail)

We are the last of all (Here)

If we give way we lose (No)

So can you stand with me? (We can)

Will you now pay your dues (Hai)

The tales they tell, of how we stand this day

We that defend our cause

Will last a thousand years

Come now the dogs of war

Break or hold, die or kill (Live)

Try or fail, or succeed (Fight)

We must be an iron wall (Hold)

When the heart receives the call (We go)

We are the least of them (Fight)

We are few, but we are brave (Yes)

So can you stand with me (We Will)

The tales they tell, of how we stood this day

We few that know the law

Will last a thousand years

Hear now the dogs of war

Sun is set, darkness falls (See)

Now comes the enemy (Beware)

Draw sword and shield defy (Hai)

All their wives must scream and cry (Stand fast)

We are the last hope now (Last)

Of all our people fair, so will you die with me (We do)

Will you now do your share (Hai)

The tales they tell, of what we do this day

We that guard the door

WIll last a thousand years

Let go the dogs of war

Well, my favourite is a main theme from "Gallipoli" by Peter Weir. Film with Mel Gibson and Mark Lee.

I think that is its name:

"adagio in j minor"

Its all about putting it in the right context I reckon smile_o.gif

There is one scene for example in "Tour of Duty" (TV series) where some grunts are dropped of on a river bank from a Huey and promptly ambushed and about to be cut to shreds. The Huey pilot turns back to assist them, comes in low with rock music blasting from his loudspeakers and guns blazing. That music, in that scene, is perfect smile_o.gif

Just like the "Oh fortuna" techno remix applied to a certain scene from "Aliens".

Or even a few scenes from Iron Eagle. There is just something special with fighters, weapons and rock music in a fine combo.

The two tunes I listen to most with war theme is probably "Camouflage" by Stan Ridgeway and "19" by Paul Hardcastle. Classics.

And of I also have a nice playlist for any flying games I might have. Including Airwolf themes, some selected Iron Eagle and Top Gun songs, a couple of classic Rolling Stones tunes and of course Ride of the Valkyries smile_o.gif

One of the best: The Rock Navy SEAL theme by Hans Zimmer.

I hated this song

But Hans Zimmer is my favorite.

Along with Gregerson Wiliams, Marco Beltrami, blahh balhh

Quote[/b] ]In games....hmm...never thought of that

Simple, you can't go wrong with Bill Brown.

He did Ghost Recon, Rainbow Six, C&C: Generals, Return to Castle Wolfenstien, Lineage II, ETC. And I stress that BIStudio choose this guy tow rite music for the game.

Then, only then, a jedi will you be...

Classic war theme tunes:

Hell March; C&C (zimmerman I think)

'Worms' from the original worms

(We are worms and we've come to win the war, to fight for what is right, etc)

'War, never been so much fun' from Cannon Fodder

Ride of The Valykries

And ideal music to listen to when assaulting as infantry:

'Loco' by Coal Chamber
