Jmaster33 0 Posted June 4, 2004 I was thinking the other day about the general look of the AI during the game and I was thinking that maybe they could have a few animations that they do, more of a variety of reactions. For example, if a bullet pings off your helmet, you don't casually get down on the ground you basically dive into the floor. However, if an officer tells you to get your head down, you don't, you casually and quietly get down onto the floor. Another thing would be reactions to gunfire and explosions, so they jump out of their skin when a grenade lands next to them and they aren't expecting it. Of course if they see the grenade they get out of it's way and cover their ears or something. They could also look from left to right as they patrol, and glance behind them occasionally. Just ways to give the AI more of a lifelike feel.
WhoCares 0 Posted June 4, 2004 ..., so they jump out of their skin when a grenade lands next to them and they aren't expecting it. ... You might check the Resistance trailer again. Some people were quite impressed, how one of the civilists (iirc) reacted when suddenly a grenade blew up right next to him. However, I agree, more response to thir surroundings would definatly add to the overall atmosphere Quote[/b] ]For example, if a bullet pings off your helmet, you don't casually get down on the ground you basically dive into the floor. In the german Bundeswehr they taught us two commands for this kind of actions: Stellung! (lit.: position): get down and be ready to engage the enemy as soon as possible. You go down in a controlled manner and pick up a target with your rifle. Deckung! (lit.: cover): get down as soon as possible (e.g. due to incomming shells) You drop immediatly face down on the floor, burrying your hands and rifle under your body (to protect all the important parts of you ) and start praying. Gollum1 0 Posted June 5, 2004 1 other thing is that they don't run away from enemy tanks. they're just sitting there wating untill they'll get shot. On the other hand, prone infantry is much harder to detect than infantry frantically running for cover.
hellfish6 7 Posted June 5, 2004 There's an AI thread pinned at the top of the forum specifically for threads like this. It helps us keep the clutter down and conversations coherent.
