Ducking - in vehicles

Recommended Posts

Heres the idea in its simplest form: pressing duck while in a vehicle (boat or car) makes your avatar try to duck below the level of the windows, so that they are harder to shoot from outside.

Drivers could do it also. However, it would be vital to only allow this ducking from first person view - which would severely reduce your view of the road ahead, making it only useful for bursting through roadblocks/ VCPs/ whatever. If it was allowed in third person, then you could just do it all the time with no penalties. Unless the lower 3/4 of the screen was obscured.

When in armoured vehicles, pressing duck should make you button up.

When in helicopters, you need duck to fly the thing, and anyway ducking wouldn't do any good in 99% of helicopters.

Most planes wouldn't have the space to duck. Maybe the cessna (equivalent).

I don't see this as making you immune to bullets or anything. All it would stop would be those bullseye headshots through the glass - and you wouldn't be able to drive around while ducked - you'd just crash into things.

If the damage system is upgraded (and I know we'd all like it to be,) then the metal frame of a vehicle should not stop bullets but could deflect/ slow down some of the smaller, less powerful ones. (simulated in OFP1 by those in a car taking some damage when the exterior body is damaged). A big lump of metal like the engine, though, could stop rounds up to 12.7mm - making duck handy against roadblocks - although the engine should of course be damaged by getting shot

Cool idea and probably goes hand in hand with shooting from vehicles...

it basically makes you a smaller target, but the AI should do it too then, some shoot out of a car, rest duck tounge_o.gif Man that would be funny to see, like a gangster film.

Exelent idea! It would be cool if in 3rd view in cars while ducking, your nape would be shown. So you dont need to switch the views, but still cant drive using "bird eyes".

Great idea indeed. And doesnt sound like too much work for bis. With this feature it wouldnt feel so stupid to sit in a boat with a straight spine while enemy MG hammers the water around you.

it ould be better to auto switch to 1:st viev when ducking like binhoculars insted off that you must have 1:st person viev to do it

@Yussi; "Doesn't sound like too much work for BIS"?? Unless they do ALOT OF WORK with the OFP2 engine, they'll loose the battle! Work needs to be done, and most of the great ideas given by the community needs to be seriously thougth through by BIS.

I love OFP, but I really hope they rethink most parts of flashpoint... (Mentioning Jumping, swimming, clipping, very backward editing for some parts of mission making (description.ext, briefing.html, etc. >sad_o.gif ), those annoying action menus, leaning, etc, etc, etc.)

I do have great confidence in BIS ... They made a game that kicks the teeth out of the competition. But I don't think they can make OFP2 better without ALOT of work...

I'm not paying for a semi-modden ofp engine. I know BIS will listen to the community - they already prooven that ALONG time ago.

THX for a great game, BIS!

PS! Document EVERY aspect of the editor this time - Ref. the VERY IMPRESSIVE documentation Far Cry came out with. This is important, BIS!

Oh, and great idea that ducking thing biggrin_o.gif

Yes well Im not a programmer (atleast not a good one :P), but to me implementing that thing really does not SOUND like a loads of work. Anyway not compared to some other, maybe not so needed suggestions made on this forum.

@Yuzzi

Hehe, I'm not a very good programmer either.. But I sure am good at demanding... biggrin_o.gif

My point is that I really don't care if it's lots of work for BIS... Making great games takes alot of effort. I know BIS will deliver..  wink_o.gif

Since there should be a lean option in OFP2 anyway (ie for peering around corners) then those keys could be used for vehicle passengers to lean hard to the side. This could also apply to motorcycle riders where it would affect the centre of gravity and pull the bike over. I'd imagine Q and E to be the best choice. i don't know what to do about the functions already allocated to these keys though.
