cozza 24 Posted June 8, 2004 I missed it. Another 8 years till it does it again then we wait 122 years. @kegetys- Nice pic. Really show how big the sun is. Bow down in its power
theavonlady 2 Posted June 8, 2004 I followed Kegetys' idea, swiped a diskette off of someone's desk and snapped a photo outside. It's a beautiful clear day here. I've got a great pic of the sun but no dot to be seen in it anywhere. I even tried changing the pic's gamma and magnifying it but nothing shows. Stupid planets! theavonlady 2 Posted June 8, 2004 Really show how big the sun is. Our sun is a very common ordinary star called a Type G star. It is 870,000 miles in diameter and it weighs more than 1,334,000 Earths! it rotates on its AXIS, the imaginary line from one end to the other, one time every 27 days. Giant and super giant stars are 100 to 200 times bigger than our sun. If the Sun were replaced by a super giant star it would extend almost all the way out to Uranus. Maybe my problem was that I used a 3.5 inch diskette, while Kegetys used an old 5 and a quarter inch floppy (Kegetys: destroyer of antiquities! ) Actually, maybe the larger floppy's material is thicker than the smaller diskettes, cutting down more sunlight?
