Yeah I like jordanian military more because they have mixed and rare equipment and syrians have all russian equipment. biggrin_o.gif

Still jordanian military doesnt stand a chance against their neigbours. I read somewhere that jordanian army has 2 armored divisions and 2 mechanized infantry divisions. Thats why they never even consider fighting a war alone. Their doctrine is based on the thought that if Jordan is ever attacked allied forces are already coming to rescue.

I believe that is the doctrine of most countries.  wink_o.gif

@Miles

Are those Jordanian apcs getting some kind of Jordanian camo or are they staying with the OGWC sand textures?

Most likley they are staying in the regular tan color scheme.... but so far we have yet to find pics of Jordanian Scorpions.  sad_o.gif

As for Jordan's military capabilities, while their forces are small, they are still highly capable and put a lot of emphasis in unconventional warfare.... in other words guerilla war after a defeat.   The United State's experiences in Iraq verifies the effectiveness of this tactic.  The Baath party was hated by Islamic extremists...but apparently that hasn't prevented the two groups from teaming up against the United States in Iraq.   Likewise with Jordanian security forces and Islamic extremists.   They are currently enemies...but that would change real quick in the event of an invasion.    The militants would need the excellent military experience of Jordanian SF soldiers.   This is one reason why you on occasion get some Iraqi militants who are extraordinarily accurate with mortars.  It takes military experience to know how to accurately position, range, and fire mortars.

I am a big fan of this mod and love it when you guys give us updates, especially pics.

Anyway, right now I am trying to simulate Israel's War of Independance just for fun and have to use berlin mod's t-34's and josif stalin tank, WWIIEC's shermans, etc. I was just wondering if you guys are going to go that far back in IDF history.

I am no modder but I think some new textures and weapons loadouts to some already existing addons could do the trick.

Yeah retextured vehicles would be perfect for the 1948 war but from what I have read neither side didnt use tanks that much. Israelies had something like 5-10 cannons some of them dating to the 1800's.

Israelis also had 1 or 2 tanks during the war and their soldiers had no single uniforms. Same goes for arab forces as well. Arab regulars took part in the war at the very last stages. Most of the fighting took place between israeli and arab militias.

All their weapons were also WW2 era weaponry. For example upminders WW2 weapon pack has all the small arms you are going to need.

Yeah actually we will be doing a historical pack. We already have the Shermans, M3 Halftracks, Centurions, and T-34 tanks as well as...I think its an IS-2 or something like that. The main thing holding us back is that right now we don't have historic uniforms/equipment from the 60's and 70's. We also will likely do a seperate weapon pack.

But right now the main thing we need to do is the historic IDF units. Then later on we might make some historic Jordanian units. As for the Egyptians, we probably will just use our current Republican guard uniforms and just add the regular steel pot helmets to them. But except for the Israeli war of independence I believe the Egyptians mostly used AK-47's.

But we'll see about putting out some kind of basic historic pack at least cuz I really hate seeing our nice historic tanks sitting there on my harddrive. But with such a small team, these things take awhile.

Yeah I use WWII weapons for these missions. Svts simulate egyptian clones and you can use a variety of allied weapons for the IDF. That is how I do it.

IRT IDF from the 70's, I use the new French pack and they seem to work pretty well and look like IDF forces from the era that I have seen in pictures. Esepecially the ones with that bended cowboy looking hat, I use those to simulate paras.

I am no expert but I think they should do they trick for your mod, all they may need is retexturing and maybe not even that much.

Cool! Thanks for the tip. I'll check out those French troops and if they look fairly close to the IDF troops of the 70's period, we'll use them after getting permission from the author of those addons...but otherwise we'll just use some our current models and just replace the helmets and maybe add a few things like shovels or something.

The Egiptian army used a huge variety of weapons of many places like the british Endfield (used for the firs war against Israel and Suez crisis), mauser K98, mosin nagant (I seen photos of the Suez crisis), and build under lisence the sweeden m45 (Porth Said smg), the Hakim (7.92mm) and Rasheed (7.62x39) that were a copy of the sweeden too AG-42

link of the AG-42:

Another curious thing, was the french mas 49/56 was used by syria in '50s

Here are drawings of Tzahal chayalim (IDF soldiers) from 40s to late 70s. They are not much similar to addon of those French units from 70s.

Oh and BTW, I would really love to see Tzahal units from the times of War of Independence, Six Day War and Yom Kippur war. AFAIR there is some addon of Centurion tank, which may be retextured to Tzahal desert camo. So, there are a lot of addons, which may be suitable after small changes.

Wow!  Those are great pics.  The only thing that concerns me is the colors.  I could have sworn that the 60's era guys wore green uniforms (like the guys with the FNFAL).   I know that they used a mixture of British Mk2 helmets and US M1 steelpots as well as some French helmets I believe.  Other then that, I think most of those should be doable just by modifying our existing IDF infantry and changing out their webgear and helmets.  I can ask the WWIIEC guys to use their British RedDevil helmets and other web gear perhaps.

At any rate, I must warn you in advance that the infantry from the different eras may not be perfectly accurate.  But we will do our best and it will not be done all at once.

We'd rather just make some 60's/70's era soldiers first before getting into the older 40's/50's units for which we will probably need assistance by a more skilled addon maker to do.

Miles is brobably right, in the 60's most IDF soldiers wore green uniforms. I have a book called 50 Battles That Changed the World and one of the battles/wars is the six day war.

Theres a picture wich show maybe 10 IDF soldiers advancing in the desert with UZI submachine guns. They all have olive green uniforms with no camo pattern.

IDF used quite ironically wermacht weapons during the 40's and 50's. They bought them from Checkoslovakia (spelling?). Most pictures I have seen they have MP-40's in their hands and I once read a story that said that the first plane of IAF was german BF-109.

Oh btw Miles do you have any screenshots of iranian soldiers you are working on yet? tounge_o.gif

Well these are scans from my friend's book, so they are not the best sad_o.gif. Anyway I have a few more pics. Talking about colour I think we can somehow manage to either base it on these pics or compare with real pictures (difficult as most found on the net are black and white). As for addons, I believe they don't have to be 100% accurate. Just changes to existing addons basing on these pictures i posted are fine enough. We can even aquire a lot of addons like BF109 wich can be remade to Avia 199, Spitfires, Vit's BTR, INQ M-60, Centurion/Sh'ot, Nesher, F-4 Phantom. So, 95% of addons are allready made but would require minor changes plus textures for years between 40s and 80s.

BM... You got me even more convinced...

Isn't the MG in the 4th pic a MG42 and the rifle in the 3rd a Mauser (Kar98)?

Don't forget the Sherman or the M3 halftrack wink_o.gif

I have to do an assignment for school about the six day war (writing 15 pages why the six day war was won in six days tounge_o.gif ) so if I see some pics that you can use I post them over here smile_o.gif

Yes Hagana was buying weapons from socialist block, mostly by Czechoslovakia, but these were arms made in czech factories and allied weapons. Israel aquired via Czechoslovakia its first P-51s, B-17s. Those BF109 were czech Avia's S-199. But first israeli planes were afair RWD-13 and RWD-15.

Yes they are. After the war there were a lot of german guns and their clones from different countries on the market. Even today's Western machineguns are based on MG42. smile_o.gif

Oh I remember. I'm big fan of these era (late 40s and 50s) weapons. There are a lot good plastic models pictures of israeli M4s and other vehicles here:

A lot of fantastic details and real pictures as well!

One more question came to my mind. Can you make bigger flag proxies for models to make it bigger just like we can see on this picture?

The flag size is unfortunately hard coded. sad_o.gif

As for Shermans and M3's we already got those made and ready to roll....they just need a historic era crew with just overalls.
