Is this possible?

Recommended Posts

Hello, just wondering what are your opinions and if it would be possible to be able to switch between the men in your unit? The reason I ask is because when I control my troops I give them areas to move. Sometimes they get there without problems but other times they just seem to go out of their way to get shot. While setting up an ambush outside of Lipany I told 2 men to hide in some bushes to my left. While giving commands to other men in my squad I turned back only to see my 2 men crawling right out in the open. Instead of moving to the bush in a straight line they went in front of the first house then towards the bush.

Needless to say they got shot up along with my plans of setting a good ambush. So, I thought it might be nice to be able to switch between the members of my unit so I can make their movement more precise. Any opinions? I could see how this could make for some unnecessary micromanagement but I think it would be a cool option.

I dont like it.

Well not for OFP anyway. Stuff like that is cool for other action games that involve squads of friendlies. OFP is firmly grounded in reality, so I dont think magically possessing your squadmates would fly. Even if your AI squadmates are incompetent, you gotta deal with it the hard way smile_o.gif

Well H&D2 had that and I didn't find that it took away anything. Also I like how in H&D2 you could actually plot a series of waypoints and your team would follow those. It also put a line on the screen so you could see if they would be going in any odd direction. Although even their AI wasn't very great. It's not a major problem but I thought it would be cool to have more control over your team. Of course with the updated AI in OFP2 what I'm asking for might not be needed biggrin_o.gif

The ability to give them several waypoints at once would be good even if it is only possible in command or map view, maybe even an "on-the-fly" version of the Raven Shield assault plan.

I agree though that in certain game modes switching between soldiers would be extremely useful as too often a stray bullet can take you out quite some time after a save and most people would be quite willing to try and complete the mission with the remaining squad. You would lose the feeling that OFP: cWC achieved where you were afraid for you life and that means it would not be appropriate for the straight forward David Armstrong style campaign.

the idea of a command map sounds nice. make a plan in a trench and then use some kind of execute plan command.

idea of being able to switch the unit you are controlling doesn't sound like ofp at all.
