Albert Schweitzer 10 Posted April 15, 2004 hell yes I thought the same. NICE GUNS! ---------------------------------------------------- Actually, I have never seen the Porsche-Police on our roads but I know a few exist. (ambulance as well as police). Where I live they use rather BMW & Audi instead of Mercedes I noticed that they experiment more and more with other models such as the smallest Mercedesclass (looks like an egg) and it even exists a new MiniCooper-policecar (at least this is what the news said)

Albert Schweitzer 10 Posted April 15, 2004 ok, here comes a little tale from the past. Before german police cars used to be green and white. What remains when you take the green (sticker-like) away is a fully white car. They are very hard to sell on the second-hand market. Therefore the police decided to buy silver cars instead which are easier to purchase, since silver is a commonly used color (economy of scale), and they are easier to sell. Anyhow, silver looks better! Most towns in NRW (my state) have already the silver painting and cars are rather new. If you go and visit berlin you might be surprised which police-cars actually still hit the road instead of being send into the oldtimer-museum!

When a new model hit the market the CEO gave several cars to the police and ambulance for free!
GoOB 0 Posted April 15, 2004 Swedish police in Norrland (Northern parts of Sweden) used Porsches aswell, this was because the distance between the police stations was and is often very great. They were pulled off duty because the costs of operating the vehicles were too great in contrast to how many criminals were caught due to the speedy arrival of the police. One of the Porsches was given to the police chief I beleive, all others but one were sold to civilians. But my guess why the Porsches were seen as a waste of money is that the policemen played around with them alot, I would too if I could drive a Porsche for a living

ran 0 Posted April 15, 2004 *makes a mental note: never go to France* heh, you're welcome, just pay your parking place if you don't want a VBC90 to roll over your car . that kind of things you know The Gendarmerie has been given "heavily" armed armored vehicles to counter possible russian airborne armored vehicles, the VBC90 is a developpement of the VAB (it keeps about 80% of its components in common with its older army brother), the Gendarmerie keeps it due to the "coolness factor" and some fat macho ego -edit-: The Gendarmerie has been issued AML90 and 60 before the VBC90 and AMX13 before the AML's, and Shermans before the AMX13's

SpongeBob 0 Posted April 15, 2004 Quote[/b] ]Chubby, Barefoot Man Outruns PoliceWed Apr 14, 8:52 AM ET SYDNEY (Reuters) - A chubby, barefoot Australian man outran police Wednesday when he bolted through security gates left open at th back of a court he was being led into, officials said. Security footage showed the overweight man dashing down a back lane in central Sydney pursued by at least four police and prison guards, two of whom tripped while giving chase. "There was about seven or eight fellows but they couldn't stop him. He was a big fellow, pretty strong, but he could run," witness Chris Swift told reporters. Red-faced police and prison officials were left to blame each other for the security slip-up. "My information is...that he was definitely in police custody," Australian Corrective Services official Ron Woodham said. Asked how an overweight, barefoot man had outrun police, inspector Peter Thorne said: "I don't know, I wasn't here." The 23-year-old man completed his getaway when he forced a mother and her daughter out of their car in a busy city street and drove off. He was last seen heading for Sydney's famous Harbour Bridge Anyone have a link to the video? I soooo much want to see that video of the fat guy running away from the cops

Terry O'Brien of the Geneva Police Department won a police doughnut-eating contest Wednesday in suburban Chicago. O'Brien downed nine and a-half doughnuts in three minutes. It's the second straight year an international police group held the competition, sponsored by Dunkin Donuts. It attracted 40 contestants from the United States and Canada. O'Brien said he was destined to win because Wednesday was the birthday of his late father, who was a Chicago policeman.
