Can anyone make?

Can anyone make? The weapon they used in the movie Predator 1987 that Blain ( Jesse 'The Body' Ventura) used. M-134 G.E. machinegun with the backpack and ammo chain Maybe as a secondary weapon like the L.A.W or AT4. So Blain can carry another weapon, or as a primary weapon. Just as long as it is made.

Just for fun, i suppose, because in real life it's quite impossible.

By the way, it's done already, well almost.

BAS has made it for its helos.

You could post this in the total request thread, but it's pretty far from real...

i would have to agree that noone would be carrying around a gigantic mini-gun, like Arnold used it in T2, but he was a fucking terminator

Impossible is a word that man has used to limit himself since the word came into use.

with the M60 medium machine gun weight at 23lbs the m-134 is only 12lbs heavier and 7lbs for the XM-214 and as anyone knows that has been in the U.S.Army that an M60 at the start is one heavy item not to mention the ammo that is why they have a three man MMG team. The M122 tripod weights 15lbs. As you carry the weapon you build muscle and get a little more use to it. And as stong as jesse is or was at the time of the movie it would have been very possible to carry it. The ammo could have been distributed among some of the other team members until it was ready to fire. With the movie cut in and out of sceens this could have been possible. The XM-214 is a more feasible choice for one man and the M-134 for three man MMG team. Most regular soldiers train with 50 to 60lbs rucksack. Check out these sites.

But my effort looks in vain.

That'snot the whole story though. you also have to factor in a little thing called recoil. An M60 firing (roughly) 650 rounds can be fired from the hip. an MG3, which can spit out almost twice that rate is impossible to control. Either minigun, spitting out 2500-4000 or 6000 rounds... well... you can imagine the result in the hands of anyone that isn't a Movie Megastar. biggrin_o.gif

Wardog you missed a very important part of the reading before you posted a reply.

Rate of fire: Can be varied from 200 to 6000 rounds per minute. Meaning that the electric current on the motor can be varied to turn the motor fast or slow so your rate of fire is from 200 to 6000 rounds per minute. So if you lower the rate of fire you lower the recoil. On the M60 you fire in short burst so the barrel will not over heat and have longer before you have to change the barrel out.

Quote[/b] ]With the introduction of the 5.56mm ammo into the military service, Americans attempted to scale the the Minigun further down, resulting in the weapon, known as XM-214 Microgun. This little beast had 6 5.56mm barrels, was electrically driven and could fire up to 10 000 rounds. But the 5.56mm was way too weak for air-to-ground or ground-to-air (anti-aircraft) applications - the key niches of the modern Gatling systems. For the infantry, the Microgun had almost no use, being to heavy, complicated and with too much rate of fire and recoil (recoil force was up to 110 kg / 240 lbs at the full rate of fire). Infantry simply does not needed an extremely rate of fire to deal with the enemy infantry, and for AA use (where such high RoF makes sense), the 5.56mm (.223mm) and 7.62mm (.308) ammo is way too weak.

I wouldn't think the tradeoff would be worth it. "The M134 is only twelve pounds heavier;" You do realise that's the weight of a Stoner 63 LSW and 150 rounds of ammo?
