Terms you need to say

Recommended Posts

I noticed on CNN quite a while ago how rapidly cliché-terms spread from politician to journalist, from journalist to journalist and back to the politician. And of course every hobby amateur politician like us uses them too.

Example: Iraq war / war on teror

1. pockets of resistance

2. embeded journalists

3. .... (any others?)

4. old europe

5. coalition of the willing

7. Weapons of mass deception

8. democracy, free world

9. coalition of the weasel

10. 911 "devastating"

or what about gun laws

1. 2nd ammendment

2. law abiding citizens

3. Guns dont kill people, people kill people

4. Holocaust

5. liberals

6. self protection

7. ... (any others)

any more topics? political or not political. Or can you add any more terms a regular CNN watcher should know?   wink_o.gif

Or simply post cliché terms that you hear often and just damn annoy you

We could go on all day reciting Clintonisms. "I did not have sexual relations with that woman, Miss Lewinsky. "That depends upon what your definition of 'is' is." "I did not inhale."

Yes you could think they want to tell you that those things fly up to the moon and beyond.

More yogi...

"You've got to be very careful if you don't know where you're going, because you might not get there."

"I knew I was going to take the wrong train, so I left early."

"If you don't know where you are going, you will wind up somewhere else."

"If you can't imitate him, don't copy him."

"You better cut the pizza in four pieces because I'm not hungry enough to eat six."

"Baseball is 90% mental -- the other half is physical."

"It was impossible to get a conversation going; everybody was talking too much."

"Slump? I ain't in no slump. I just ain't hitting."

"A nickel isn't worth a dime today."

"I take a two hour nap, from one o'clock to four."

"You give 100 percent in the first half of the game, and if that isn't enough in the second half you give what's left."

"Thanks, you don't look so hot yourself." -- After being told he looked cool.

"I always thought that record would stand until it was broken."

"It's never happened in the World Series competition, and it still hasn't."

"The other teams could make trouble for us if they win."

"I never blame myself when I'm not hitting. I just blame the bat, and if it keeps up, I change bats. After all, if I know it isn't my fault that I'm not hitting, how can I get mad at myself?"

"You should always go to other people's funerals; otherwise, they won't come to yours."

Hahahha...some of those are brilliant.

My personal gripe is the way "journalists" on news shows over the last few years have started using the word "that" all the time. Eg: "and to that airplane crash in.." or "and now that story about...". What's wrong with "the" or "a". They use "that" to try and make it sound more urgent? To me it sounds wrong, pointless and if I ever find the guy who started it I will insert that axe into that skull. mad_o.gif

Ha,

I love Yogi-isms, but if you read them closely they actually do make sense he just phrased his point wrong. Aside from being a hall of fame ballplayer he also voluntered to serve on a Navy Gunboat during WW2 which saw action during the Normandy landings. His boat ended up getting swamped in the rough current and he had to spend a hours bobbing in the water before he got picked up.

Quote[/b] ]coalition of the weasel

I thought this was "Axis of weasels"

The "Axis of evil's" less dangerous brother.

Now that you've mentioned that. It reminds me of how much of a dickhead president Bush is. Not to mention the way that arse tried to snub us Canadians for not invading Iraq. Implying that we were somehow not against "terror" because we weren't going along with the popular notion at the time, yet we were getting shot at/blown-up, in Afghanistan. We did our duty but in our way. Not his.

Yeah. What a dink.

That just reminds me of some highschool clique that tries to austricize someone for not moving with the crowd.
