KJAM 0 Posted January 20, 2004 Quote[/b] ]A British student is today languishing in an American prison after joking to airport officials that she had a bomb in her bag.Samantha Marson, 21, is believed to have been stopped by police at Miami International Airport, where she was catching a flight to London. Her ‘joke’ is said to have sparked a terror alert at the airport. An American policeman, quoted in The Sun, said "Samantha had a small rucksack on her back and was asked by an officer what was in it. She laughed and said, ‘I’ve got a bomb’, and he immediately handcuffed her and put her under arrest. "She was in floods of tears and apologised three times but the officer was having none of it." Samantha, of Barnes, West London, was brought before a judge and remanded to the tough Dade County jail in Miami. She is said to be facing six months custody. Samantha had been visiting her boyfriend, a sailor in the US Navy, and was returning to London simply to renew her visa. Her 75-year-old father, Jim, told The Sun: "We are beside ourselves with worry. Clearly the Americans did not see the joke. She hardly looks like Osama Bin Laden." Source .Yahoo! News that is NOT the thing to say in these times, really stupid girl, and stupid student, im ashamed that she is english but i understand that the americans are annoyed at that, but they should have kown it to be fake, for one IMO a terrorist wanting to blow up an airport/plane or take the plane hostage would NOT announce that he/she had an explosive device
Acecombat 0 Posted January 20, 2004 Cool now we cant even joke
ralphwiggum 6 Posted January 20, 2004 some jokes are inappropriate under certain circumstances.
KJAM 0 Posted January 20, 2004 i Agree with you ralph and i also think that it was entirely unappropriate given current situations i remember on a programme the story of one guy. he was from chicago,in an airport and had a violin case with him, and a fellow passenger (how stupid must the guy who asked this be?) asked him "whats in the violin case" but instead of stating the obvious, the man from chicago with the case, decided to make a witty reply to the other passenger(due to him being from chicago and chicagos past gangster history  "oh just a machine gun" the guy with the violin was duly arrested, now while partial blame can be put on him, i also blame the other guy who asked in "whats in the violin case  talk about stating the obvious in your own question! Acecombat 0 Posted January 20, 2004 Oh please can you seriously expect a terrorist to sweetly tell you what hes carrying It was a girl for gods sake not even some beareded ME'er who could raise suspicion.
KJAM 0 Posted January 20, 2004 Ace like someone said before Terrorism isn't dependent on any particulars Creed, Race, Religion (though sometimes this is what terrorists try to say it is, a religious act) Nation or gender, even the presence or lack of facial hair isnt an indicator really, the next guy(or girl, or both ) anyone walks past could be a terrorist, you just dont know until they play their hand
Gadger 0 Posted January 20, 2004 Man, maybe handcuffing and frisking is a bit over the top, but a 6 month custodial sentence whilst awaiting trial? Thats just a farce. Â [sarcasm]If I was going to carry and detonate a bomb on a commerical jet, the first thing I would do is tell the cops my intentions and say its in my bag, yeah all terrorists should do that![/sarcasm]
KJAM 0 Posted January 20, 2004 well gadger, suspected terrorists from the UK (one or two) have been held in Guantanamo bay for 2 Years WITHOUT trial so far..i have no idea how the US can get away with that
Cloney 0 Posted January 20, 2004 I changed this because Hellfish is my daddy, or one of them.
Gadger 0 Posted January 20, 2004 Because they wasn't suspected, they was proved to be, and a terrorist has no rights under Geneva convention, they are not of a standing army, therefore have no rights under international law. She was pretty fine actually Cloney, hence why the frisking sprung to mind
Akira 0 Posted January 20, 2004 Yell "Fire!" in a crowded theater and you get the same treatment. It's pretty simple. Don't say: "I have a bomb." What is so hard about that? Why would you even want to make that joke?
MASTAKILLA 0 Posted January 20, 2004 justice for all
KJAM 0 Posted January 20, 2004 watch the spam guys (i.e DONT lol) and what do you guys think about the Chicago guy story what i posted (that really did happen)
Gadger 0 Posted January 20, 2004 For simple humour you should receive 6 months in prison? Yelling fire in a crowded theatre is totally different, that can cause panic and mayhem, cop stopped her asked what was in the bag, she laughed and said the b word. Whats so bad about that? Ironsight 1 Posted January 20, 2004 Hell, If she was hot I'd frisk her Wich real man wouldn't
Kegetys 2 Posted January 20, 2004 I was joking with my brother about similar things at the New York airport a few weeks ago, no one seemed to care... or understand :P Advantages of not having English as your primary language
Gadger 0 Posted January 20, 2004 If only she'd spoke in cockney ryhming slang, actually she'd prolly still get arrested for saying she had a bong.
Gollum1 0 Posted January 20, 2004 Bad and inappropriate joke, but six months in prison! It was a JOKE! That is, how should I say, well, f****d up!
Ironsight 1 Posted January 20, 2004 Yeah if you talk in a foreign language no one cares You can talk about anything you want
KJAM 0 Posted January 20, 2004 expanding on ralphs comment, there is a time and a place for jokes like this, a crowded US airport (highly paranoid btw) is neither of these i understand them arresting her for attempting to cause mass panic, but a sentence that harsh...too much, or maybe they trying to make an example of her
Gadger 0 Posted January 20, 2004 She didn't say it over the PA at a crowded airport, she said it in a 1 on 1 disucssion with the police officer involved.
Ironsight 1 Posted January 20, 2004 or maybe they trying to make an example of her Possible since you have a lot of jokers walking around, but still a lousy thing to do
