School shooting

Recommended Posts

The student said he acted to avenge the reputation of his Muslim family deemed to have been sullied after his teenage sister was taken on holiday by a fellow student to Turkey.

What does this have to do with computer games?

We dont know do we. But bringing a gun into school leaves some suspicion. I remember the deadliest school shooting during the last years was in germany. The guy said he was angry because they didnt let him take his tests, now you could ask again, what does this have to do with computer games. Fact is he was an ego-shooter maniac. Basically if I remember correctly most of theses incidents had something to do with passionate gamers.

(and yes,,, of course we are talking about weak individuals here).

Furthermore we could also add that games, as was being said before, are often the reason for social isolation. There is a phenomenon in Japan right now on which several books have been written (seen it on BBC as well). Thére are kids which have become socially so isolated (especially due to games) that they fear to leave the house, and even their own room. Can you imagine kids staying their room for SEVERAL YEARS. Yes I believe games are dangerous, whether you can handle the stress from games or not depends on the time you are forced to communicate and socialise with others, real life friends and real life conflicts are the best things for mental stability. Amen! blues.gif

I'm glad you brought up japan, because there is a phenonmenon there that totally disproves your point:

Stressed out employees can beat the shit out of a bamboo replica of their boss. This, according to your 'theory' would mean that they are more likely to go out and do the same thing to their boss. Newsflash: they are less likely to do so, because it relieves their stress.

newsflash biggrin_o.gif

There are differences. Fact number 1 that the employee knows he has a conflict with a certain person. He buys a puppet and through this tries to release his stress. So the correct learning process is already terminated.

But a child first learns what the ego-shooter teaches him and then later on in his life he is confronted with problems. One is the BEFORE and the other the AFTER life-experience stage.

Also, may assume that employees have reached a certain age of maturity and then are less likely to be unstable (by that time puberty should be over).

You know, I often dont listen to news-flashs anymore, I wait till the reported incident has been approved by several agencies and information is profound! biggrin_o.gif

1)

CHILDREN should not be playing games rated mature or well above their age level; if they are, that's the P A R E N T S fault.

2) Once they are old enough to buy mature rated games (ie teenagers) they are old enough to know the same as an adult does and old enough to use games as purely a stress releasing aid.

3) If you don't think adults are influenced by playing violent games, thinking young adults are is nonsense.

Quote[/b] ] If you don't think adults are influenced by playing violent games, thinking young adults are is nonsense. "

During young age we tend to be slightly insecure wich is intended by nature. Insecurity helps us to keep our eyes open and to learn from others, learning in an evolutionary sense is essential to survival. After puberty humans become more settled. Because what counts then in nature is self confidence and self-diction (because then we start to compete for females! competition requires confidence!)

Yes, if you are younger than 18 you are still open to learn quickly, may it be the wrong or the right thing. You learn faster but the necessary filter is missing. For someone who is already very instable puberty can be hell and he is under higher risk of looking for the wrong solution to his problems! Never heard of "with age you get less spontaneous" which means nothing else than that your mind settles.

Under 18 people are still under the control of their parents. If they are playing games rated 'too old' for them, that is the parents responsibility.

There is no sudden switch when people become 18 that they suddenly gain adult thinking. Some behave and learn like adults much younger, some don't until around the age of 18, but there is no sudden switch.

There is still no causal link between playing games and violent behavior, anyway. Too many 'soccer moms' as our American freinds call them jumping to conclusions. The fact could be that violent people like playing violent games, not that violent games make people violent.

That fact could be that both are true. That's my opinion.

i dont feel chilled out, i feel stressed, i died in the mission sad_o.gif LOL but it has taght me more than i could say lol and Games dont make kids homocidal maniacs..........(though if i ever encounter another pokemon game i will go nuts)

and the fact that i live my life to these words

Quote[/b] ]An thy harm none, do as thy wilt

basicaly means, if it (or you by your actions) hurts no one (emotionally and physically, or if it doesnt break the law) do what you want

that is the Wicca Rede one of the major rules in Wicca Religion and one which Wiccans COMPLETELY abide by in life and also in rituals (i would say Magick or Magic but then some of you may think these rituals ridiculous)

im so glad i discovered Wicca and became a Wiccan...........its made my life so chilled out biggrin_o.gif

PEACE

Kill in games, not with guns, and watch out, for the younger ones biggrin_o.gif

I'm an atheist, and my main principal is to value life. I'm not about to kill anyone, though I have ready access to many guns and play GTA III.

Playing OFP in reasonable portions makes me feel energized!

But video game violence doesn't even seem like a suspect in this case, IMO...

So you are saying just because you, me and the rest of the forum doesnt seem to be affected it means that there is no connection between brutal computer games and an increased amount of agressivity amongst certain individuals.

Now that is blindness because you are not capable accepting that their might be people out that that act and function differntly than you. Same with alcohol, just because we can drink it and control ourselves doesnt mean that there is humans around the world that cant restrict their daily consumption. Poeple's madness can go worse through computer games and I stick to that thesis. And it seems I am not the only person who believes that, or why is there an age restriction to many gore shooters out there?

No, I'm saying that people who cannot control themselves (with drink or with anything else) should not spoil it for the rest of us; and that those people who are that messed up would be so without the supposed influence of games/ whatever.

What's blindness is assuming that you are better than everyone else and that you know better than them what is good for them.
