I agree with you Llauma, but I allso know of the problem, and to solve this I feel that the best solution is to have an option, that way the players can choose how they want to play...

Baron Hurlothrumbo IIX, I really like that idea, but isn't it better if the option to lock the vehicles is one option for all, not one for each vehicle, since I can't see a good reason to lock just one or two helos and leave other unlocked for other units than pilots...

Maby a new menue in the misson settings (there you can choose weather and stuff) where you can choose which vehicles to lock for certan units...

There can be categorys like we have in the editor, air, armored and car, but maby it is a good ide to devide air to choppers and planes. And devide armored to tanks and similar to one category, and get the boats and the M2 machinegun out of that category...

if we want it to be realistic (well I certainly do don't know about the others) there should be some limits in the unit's skills. how often do you see an engineer hop in a hornet and gun down few ruskies in a dogfight in real life?

On the other hand, just because someone is designated as a certain class, that doesn't mean they are *not* able to do the other classes role: special forces, for example, could easily have someone in the team who has at least rudimentary knowledge of how to fly a chopper.

And although there are intricracies and tactics in higher levels, driving a tracked armoured vehicle is *not* that hard.

So thats why I think that there should at least be some leeway and have the vehicles realistically difficult to operate - meaning that if the *player* doesn't know how to operate it, they won't be able to.

There could even be an America's Army style setting where only those who have trained to operate vehicles could do so, no matter what 'class' they are playing as.

As for AI - well, fine, they shoudn't be able to fly choppers or planes... unless specified... but I would let them drive things around.

and that's why the offline training would be welcome.

imo the different classes should be specialised on different areas. that's what I like in wolfenstein. engineers blow things up or repair/construct something, medics heal and officers call for support.

Sure, they should be specialised.  But the thing I'm most worried about is in MP when that specialist either dies or gets disconnected before their chance to use their skill, leaving everyone else stranded.

You know, on an island or in a mission where they have to be transported a long distance.

What about some kind of skill/rating system based off of how many training missions you succesfully complete? Atleast that will help during MP as far as designating who does what. And knowing wether or not you are in safe hands.

Uhm, I would like this:

-When you are a pilot guy, you can also fly chopper/planes very well but you are not as good as shooting then a Infantry guy ( And maybe more recoil ). And cannot drive tanks.

-When you are a tanker/crew, you can drive cars/tanks/APC very well, reload faster, turn tanks faster and things. But these guys cannot fly a chopper.

And these guys would also be a bit lesser good in shooting like pilots ( also more recoil).

-When you are a Infantry guy, you can shoot very well. Aim perfectly, on the field and whatever, But these guys cannot drive tanks or fly choppers...

-When you are a Ranger/black op, you can shoot even better than Infantry guys and have better stealth. And these guys can drive tanks and fly chopper just a lil .

Good idea for SP tounge_o.gif, but in MP I don't know.

All this can be a good idea in a campain, but it's not good to limit the whole game...

That would remove the simulation thing about OFP... wink_o.gif

GREAT idea! Just like in America's Army! Let the game handle the n00bs, not other players!

For MP's sake I think everyone should be able to do everything. But what about some kind of rating system that shows how many training missions you've completed succesfully? That way during MP everyone has the opportunity to fly/drive, but you can view their profiles (Like now, press P and it shows you their info) and decide who should be the one(s) to fly/drive.

and that's the very thing that makes it more interesting. that's how it is in real life too. if the pilot dies that's just tough luck. try to figure out how to carry on.

On an island? With soldiers that can't swim?

The mission is over.

At least in IRL you could improvise something, or call in support, or even swim.

You can't do that in OFP = you need to have someone to get you out of there.

At least the option - if you wanted to make a specific mission where one guy was the only pilot that'd be fine too - as long as it was an option and not always the case.

In OFP this is the case, but don't say the limitations of OFP2. It could quite possibly be fixed.

And if it is then I won't have a problem with it.

However, if it was made so that that wasn't fixed BUT only designated drivers or pilots etc could use a perfectly servicable vehicle - then we'd have a problem, wouldn't we.

I still think the best solution is just having a rating system and the possibility of locking certain vehicles/ certain missions rather than having it enforced on all missions.

If you're stuck behind enemy lines, with a perfectly servicable aircraft, wouldn't you at least try it? I would.

but why? if the objective is on that island you can still complete it. getting away from the island would be a bit delayed IRL. the guy who makes the mission could think of that kind of situation and add backup extraction. like a boat. that way it would be a little different every time you play.

On the Suggestions part of this I would like to see the ability for the tanks to be able to use something called STAB or Stabilization to aid in the Gunners use of the Main Gun. And on the part of the usage of drivers licences, I would like to see that so people can properly use the Freakin' equipment not run or, in most cases, fly the stuff into the ground. thats one thing that make MP sometimes flustrating, because of the NOOBs flying the Transport Chopper into the ground with 3 to 4 guys in the back crazy_o.gif
