SpongeBob 0 Posted September 19, 2005 I got that same camera Tovarish. It's my first digi camera and I didn't want to get something way expensive at first. Â People always tell me its too big and bulky, I guess it is compared to other small digital cameras, but I kinda like bigger cameras, they fit into my giant hands. Â Oh and I didn't get the dock or whatever it's bundled with, not sure what the dock does, nor do i think its needed if you got a computer.

Didin't get the dock either, apparently it just simplifies transfering images, printing and recharging for the techno-challenged. Compared to what I had before - Vivitar ViviCam 3720 (go ahead ,look it up, you'll fiind zilch - even on Vivitar's web page ) - it just blows my mind. Still getting used to the whole "press shutter halfway down - the camera will show what it's focusing on THEN press down fully to take picture" - especially on moving objects like those birds from yesterday. kind of anoying when the camera doesn't always "lock" on what you want it to, but at least you know where it's looking before you take the picture. The one thing I'm a bit iffy about is I noticed the zoom lens movement sometimes seems a bit rough around a certain small range of it's motion - it even causes the viewfinder image to shake a bit - but not all the time. Then again, it was a "factory reconditioned" bargain..

Theres a thing on the Fuji S7000, that you can have the camera constantly auto focusing, or only when the button is half pressed, or manual focus using the ring on the lens (C-AF, S-AF, and MF) Not sure if that camera has a similar feature, though.. Anyway, supah, that pictures really cool - Ben

Yeah, I've found I can turn off the multiple zones of focus. Mostly it's a very good feature, but in low light settings it can get pretty random. No ring on my lens unfortunately. earl 0 Posted September 24, 2005 I have uninstalled OFP from my PC, so i am only here now because of this thread. Hope nobody minds me hanging around... Hm, me too.  I hope it's not a problem. So I had a question for the Digital Rebel XT users (just Supah and Denoir?).  What lenses have you got and what do you think about them so far? I've heard people say skip the kit lens and just get an all-rounder zoom lens like the Sigma 18-200mm f3.5-f?  I've heard  other people say they wish they would have kept the kit lens for the minimal price difference.  After all, it's a faster lens and might be useful if you expect to shoot in low light situations. I started shopping and pricing so I'm terribly afraid that I might buy one soon.  After all, I can write it off as a business expense. And then I saw the Bigma... 50-500mm

Supah 0 Posted September 24, 2005 hehehe yeah the bigma ... been looking at that too but I think (or hope) reason wil keep me from it. I use the kitlens and think its pretty good. I've bought a Tamron 70-300 mm lens but lately I have become annoyed at it for its chromatic abberations. If you buy a 350D (digital rebel XT sounds so horrible :S who ever though of that? ) I think you'll also want the battery grip, the camera is more ergonomic with it and it holds two of the NiMh batteries. I'd say your choice of lenses depends on what you are going to use it for. The 18-55 mm canon kitlens is a good allround lens though not super wide angle due to the cropfactor If you want a good 200 mm lens I'd get the canon one with the IS (Image Stabilisation) though it may cost more. The 18-55 mm canon kitlens is a good allround lens though not super wide angle due to the cropfactor If you want a good 200 mm lens I'd get the canon one with the IS (Image Stabilisation) though it may cost more. Just from my recent experience using a 35mm SLR with a 50mm prime lens in many situations, the most common problem that came up was not having a wide enough FOV in tight spots or on big lookouts. I think 50mm is equivalent to just over 30mm lens on the 350D, so I don't think I'd be happy with just a 28-200mm lens like Canon offers, or having to swap often. I also tend to try minimizing the amount of stuff I need to carry or travel with, so battery grip is out and no extra 70-X00's lenses to carry around. The only canon lens I'm looking at now is the 17-85mm IS, but Sigma 18-200mm is still looking a lot better when comparing prices and telephoto range. I should get a chance to play around with both lenses on the weekend and get a better idea of what I want.

GoOB 0 Posted September 25, 2005 Oh, nice. The edit gave the impression that the bust was in a large museum or hall of some sort. Whilst the kid was playing in the background.
