I thought they were all abit crap. Tripod+Timer make night pics easy.

@ Killage: This is what I have http://www.dpreview.com/reviews/specs/Fujifilm/fuji_finepixs9100.asp

Definitely not crap. I really like this one

Anyways, took the new camera for the first serious test run tonight - last night of Winterlude in Ottawa, snapped a few shots of ice sculptures.

Thinking of getting a 17-50/2.8 or 28-75/2.8 (Tamron) or something similar. (The Canon equivalents cost about 3 times as much)

I'm thinking about replacing the kit lens with the 17-50/2.8 lens made by Sigma. Just seen it for 399.- € in town today (didn't look for online prices yet). I have yet to find any (affordable) zoom lenses with a better f-value. Simply the fact that it offers the same aperture over the whole zoom length (and much better than the 3.5-5.6 of the the kit lens, too) makes it perfect for any indoor/low light photography.

Anyone tried this lens (or the respective Tamron equivalent)? Is there an equivalent Canon lens, and what would that cost?

From what I've heard the Sigma has a lot of Colour Abberation. The Tamron 17-50 is said to be very decent and about the same price as the Sigma. However Tokina will soon release their 16-50/2.8 so I'm kinda holding back till that's available and see how it performs and how much it'll cost. The Canon equivalents cost quite a bit more huh.gif

EFs 17-55/2.8 IS: about 870e

EF 16-35/2.8L: about 1400e

(a second hand 17-35/2.8L is also an option, still expensive)

EF 24-70/2.8L: about 1100e

(a second hand 28-70/2.8L is also an option, but again, still expensive)

And to finish with a photo, my first time trying night photography crazy_o.gif

Seems the lights are a bit of a marmite feature, I personally think they look great. Especially the last one.

Tovarish, those ice scultpures are amazing. wow_o.gif

Wonderful with the reflection, but the other is, as you said, ruined by light.

I just love them sniperuk. I like the blown out lights too. All the uniform star patterns coming off the lights is the sign of a good lens smile_o.gif

One of the bands I am working for at the moment asked me to get some photos for them during their 'animals encounter' before the gig at Auckland Zoo. The gig itself was difficult because there was an 85db noise limit to avoid stressing the animals, but the crowd was awesome and into it. 4500 people too which was cool. I felt abit rushed getting the photo's of them. not sure I captured any of it perfectly but hopefully they are happy... Here are a few of the images that worked out OK.

Can't wait for spring, can't stand having my hands go numb after 20 minutes or so with the camera :P. I'm sending the last one to my family in Cuba so they can see what beautiful beaches we have in Canada.
