Bas pavehawks

Recommended Posts

Anyway, both the blackhawks and the pavehawks can be used as a dustoff chopper. In RL they will be used as such since these are the first choppers on the scene.

Not true, since the UH-60Q Dustoff is specialised for that purpose. it is packed with medical supplies and other essentials (like defibulators [you know the heart paddles wink_o.gif ])

Anyho, atm the Dustoff is waaay down on the bottom of our list, to quote Ebud "c'mon, how much use would it get..."

Eventually it'll come, but not in the near future...

I meant that when a guy get's shot they won't wait for a medical choppen to arrive, but they will try to get him the fuck out of there with the first chopper on the scene. With spec ops there's often a chopper around and thus they will use that one. (much like extracting pfc balckburn in a HMMWV; they didn't dail 911 and waited for the emergency services to arive, they just trowed him in the back and got the fuck out the the place)

It's of course true that when no chopper is around and they have to call for one, the dustoff chopper will be the one to answer the call.

yes I know what those thingies are. In my language thay call them "defibrilator". It was such a wierd word I never forgot it again. biggrin_o.gif

I'm English and I can't even spell the damn thing... hence the little [ ]...

Anyho, yeah, I understand where you're coming from Frost, they will indeed use the 1st vehicle available, and get them the hell out, hence the "how much use would it REALLY get" comment.

the Euro Pavehawks pictured in the bas Screenshots are the ones that were in Liberia with the marines?? theirs so many damn variations of the Blackhawks..

and What Division of the marines use the pavehawks?? would it be unrealistic to have Force Recon Marines being carried around in Air Force Birds? after all Force Recon does alot of raids.. and it just doesnt seem right we dont have correct marine choppers (sorry their outdated). i know force recon in iraq uses Ch-53, but the Marines in liberia used them so.. thoughts?

really wanna make a Humanitarian missions on Tonal (simulating it to be Liberia, Africa). itll be fun... comments from the Pavie experts would be greatly appreciated..

Well I thought the AF birds were availible to anyone in need of shipping if no internal-branch aircraft are availible. The same with the airforces ground-attack aircraft, if the other branches had an abundant resource of aircraft the corresponding AF birds would server almost no purpose. So my bet is on that all branches use the Pavehawks to some extent, but they are ofcourse manouvered uder the AF just that the cargo is different tounge_o.gif

Those first Marines that were inserted into Liberia were not Force Recon, they were part of FAST (Fleet Anti-Terrorist Security Teams). They were put in to augment the security of the American Embassy. The reason AF H-60's were used were because they were the closest available asset to insert the FAST team.

Actually the HH-60L is the current medivac chopper version, the UH-60Q is the 'old' version.

just a quick point on these pavies and pilots... if i remember correctly we have a basic olive green soar pilot don't we?

now... olive green pilots uniform must be fine for the pavies? can't see how different they would be.... or not different enough to be seen from the air tounge_o.gif

wow_o.gif

Is this a joke of a shift in PR crazy_o.gifrock.gif Not that I don't trust you Tigershark, but it's just that this ETA is little shocking. Please write "warning!" above future posts like this. wink_o.gif

Good news, though!!!

very good news.... question.. how often are the rotor blades cleaned on choppers? obviously in an atmosphere like iraq they can gather alot of dust.

I think the rotor blades are cleaned by well.. just starting the engine tounge_o.gif . It's the engine and air intakes that need cleaning, but I don't think they'll actually clean the blades other than whiping away the dust for inspection of the blades (probably the only good reason to clean them a little).

Disclaimer; I could be wrong wink_o.gif

desert conditions;

I would say every day a cleanup and again after every flight (or just a minot check). These will just be small cleanups, no taking apart the engine and cleaning bit by bit. I'm not sure how often that's done.

I'm sure Tigershark knows more about such things

Brushes, mops, cloths, gloves and a lot of elbow-grease wink_o.gif

In the pre-flight, the Crew Chief MAY wipe any excess sand off the rotors with his gloves, otherwise its up to the mechanics to do it (with brushes etc).

Also, the desert environment puts a LOT more strain on the rotors (dust and sand are really good abrasives) so the actual rotor blades and tail rotor will be completely replaced every 25 [Flight] hours or so (best to ask Gatordev or Doc for actual times). The sand filters (if the helicopter has any) are also cleaned before every flight, if not the intakes are blanked off during periods of no flying.

@Frost, the engines are completely stripped and cleaned every 50 flying hours (at least they are in the RAF and most other airforces, the US may operate diffferently)

Good lord ...i hate to do this ..ok first of all how Iceland at all close to Liberia. why do i bring up iceland. Thats where those Pavehawks came from. So stop your self for one second and look at a globe.

here we have Liberia with a MEU (SOC) in the Med and Pave lows in England. so why put Marines in Pavehawks. well here's the reason. Because along with those airframes you get an STS combat controllers, PJ's and combat weather personnel. so i was not about the location ..it was aircraft and crew ...plus would you really wanna bring in a ch-53 or 47 into an lz that size ?

Quote[/b] ]As a rule of thumb the Navy uses Seahawks, the Airforce uses Pavehawks, and the Army uses Night and Blackhawks

Actually, the navy started using the HH-60 "KnightHawk" recently. Identical to the Airforce HH-60 in most all aspects, I believe they are attached to the HS squadrons on aircraft carriers for SAR, in conjunction to the SH-60 for ASW.

Shouldnt be too hard to place them into OFP, as all it would require is a little re-texturing. biggrin_o.gif

Try going back a couple of pages.  I already admitted I should have checked my information before I posted, and when I did post, I could, and should have given references to my info, then I would have found in the process that I was wrong, and would have given correct information.

No but every unit has a certain amount of pride in their work. Talk to any Marine or paratrooper for example and normally he'll tell you that his unit is made up of the baddest MoFo's to ever walk God's green earth.

I wouldn't sweat it. He's not dis'ing anyone else or anything.

That's because the Marine Corps has the baddest bunch of MoFo's Miles, DUH!!! HAHA. Just kidding.

But on topic, it is good to hear that the Pave's have an ETA of Jan 04. Though the more time taken on them the better they shall be.
