Locked out of my own browser!

<table border="0" align="center" width="95%" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0"><tr><td>Code Sample </td></tr><tr><td id="CODE">This operation has been cancelled due to restrictions in effect on this computer. Please contact your system administrator

The above message appears whenever I attempt to access Internet Options through IE6: Tools>Internet Options. But strangley enough, not when going through Start>Control Panel>Network and Internet Connections>Internet Options.

Well, dag gonnit, I'm the only who uses this computer, so I'm the "Admin"!

I tried restoring my HD to a previous state/restore point, but the only one available was just the day before, when the problem was still occuring. Short of reinstalling WinXP and...OFP, does anyone know how to "unlock" the browser?

Try Settings->Control Panel -> User Accounts.

See wether your account has "Computer administrator" priviledges (or if your son's does, if you suspect him of doing it).

*edit* By default, Windows XP makes everyone an administrator untill you change it, but if you don't have administrator settings, then someone has taken those away from you. Better make your son a regular user to be safe. Click on his, select "Change account type", select "Limited"

Try it, there are pluses and minuses between IE and the others. One of the pluses of "the others" is security, well especially for mail.

Also try this:

Cllick start>run and run this: "gpedit.msc"

This will bring up the local group policy editor

Drill down to...

Computer Configuration>Administrative templates>Windows components>Internet Explorer

also check

User Configuration>Administrative templates>Windows components>Internet Explorer

ALL of the settings in BOTH of these should be set to "Not configured"

Apparently my copy of WindowsXP doesn't have gpedit.msc, nor TweakUI, nor...

Figures...

Okay, problem solved! Had to go into SAFE Mode. Come to find out, somehow two accounts were set to Computer Administrator account, but logging into one would not allow me to delete the other redundant account. I had to create a few other accounts, set to "Limited", and Login back and forth until ALL the stinkin' accounts showed up! Only then was I able to delete the redundant admin account.

OMG! I gonna try Mozilla...see how that works.

Thanks for the help, folks.
