Bas tonal-tango pack

Recommended Posts

In a shift of topic. I noticed the Opfor BRDM has a bug(?), you can shoot the driver if you aim just a little high on the windshield. Sometimes it works sometimes it doesn't but. It's really bugging me since I want to use it but the whole cool thing about driving a BRDM into a firefight is that bullets don't do much... now it seems about as effective as driving a UAZ since the driver can die almost as easy.

That may have been done to make it harder to play the game like GTA III (Great game, by the way wink_o.gif ). The BAS BRDM is bascially just a lightly armored vehicle that allows you to rapidly move GPMGs/HMGs to where they are necessary.

I dont have a screen shot, but I noticed that the militamen do not appear to have shadows for their lower arms. I would check it, but my computer has since died. It could just be my computer having a fluke (it has many of them, lol), but if its not something that would take too long to check, you might want to.

and BAS, keep up the good work. I really like what I see in this pack... above and beyond any other addon pack we've seen (except maybe the Nampack, it'd be close... but the nampack is a bit older, too). And ty for the campaign update. Much nicer w/o the HD weapons (in other words, now I can beat it w/o cheating biggrin_o.gif )

I usually use the posh looking Res building as an embassy whenevr I need one...Like I add a perimeter fence, a few flags here and there and you got a perfectly decent embassy to storm biggrin_o.gifblues.gif

Thank you BAS - this is a work of art.

I've only had a couple of sessions but so far I particularly like:

1. The size of Tonal. At first I was sceptical about large islands but it really adds to the experience - vehicles are now essential for getting troops around.

2. That the background is so thoroughly set out, and the heirachy of (Para)military->Militia->(Tribal)Civilian on East and Resistance sides...not just one "OpFor", but potentially two (or six!). Fictional setting also a nice tribute to BIS!

3. The ambient sounds.

4. The climbable trees in the Western jungles.

5. Tatu city

From 1 & 2 I'm imagining some long desert slogs and shifting tribal allegiances, even running a 2008 Western-backed counter-coup from the old TRF hideouts. Adding 4 & 5, I can only imagine the potential for 3-way MP fights (I need broadband!)

No problems with 1.94b so far. Between Tonal, 1.94b and Sebnampack2 my only problem is keeping up with real life...think I'll hold off on broadband for a while  wink_o.gif

What trees can you climb? Is it a glitch or will a option pop up like a ladder?

@ m21man... Huh? Ofp is nothing like GTAIII with the exception that you drive vehicles. Not to mention that there's a fine line between adding difficulty and sabotaging the usefulness of a vehicle. The very fact that it's lightly armored compared to an m113 or an m2a2 is apparent. Last I heard the brdm was a combat vehicle equipped with NBC protective measures. How useful is NBC protection if one bullet can pierce the windshield? That's beside the point. I'm simply saying that there's essentially no difference between the brdm and the uaz in this case since they both have guns and they are both very susceptable to gunfire. So it just seems redundant. I guess that means that the bas brdm is just a slower less useful version of the uaz.

The old BRDM could be used like a car in GTA III, since its combination of armor and speed made it capable of running down soldiers while keeping the driver alive. That's how I beat the "Rage" mission.

Also, where are these climable trees I've heard about? I've played around in the jungles and never been able to climb one. Maybe it's a glitch, or maybe I'm just stupid rock.gif .

In the western swamps, south of the Zinaba road, on that chain of forests stretching across the "Lake", on the Eastern end of the village there, there is a tree stretching out over the water that you can climb. Slipping however is unpleasant.

AFAIK the BRDM's armor should protect it from anything less than a heavy machine gun or anything explosive. Don't know about the windshield though.

Nice work BAS, a very good addon. I've had some problems with the BRDM's as well, I managed to destroy one with an AK47. Also there seems to be inifite ammo on them (Well the PK version at least), and there is no ammo indicator (which normally goes in the top left hand corner). A few of the vehicles bounce up and down sometimes, even though they are on level ground. But overall a very good addon, my top 5 addons are all BAS stuff I think. biggrin_o.gif

Also can someone please post the co-ordinates for the scud site, I have spent ages trying to find it.

is there a fix comin for this island with OPFOR.PBO addon ?

It's in the northwest sector of the island. Coordinates on Tonal can be deceiving, as they will suddenly switch values when you zoom out enough. Somebody did post the coordinates a while back in this thread, so search for them.

You mean the popup message: "Cannot load mission, missing addons: bas_opfor" ?

If yes an interim fix is given by killswitch at page 28 of this tread.

for the next official fix from bas (DeadMeatXM2)

Quote[/b] ]Ah, yeah, my bad...

Sorry bout that, its another patch (still on internal beta) thats got those fixes.

I do apologise, things get a wee bit confusing with soo many betas and bug reports flying round...

Do the BRDMs in OPFOR use the standard BIS armour values? Because those were screwed from the beginning - the HMMWV and BRDM both appeared in the same patch, and I'm still convinced that somehow the armour values got switched. The standard Hummer (IRL) is NOT an armoured vehicle, but a standard BRDM is - BRDM2 = 10 to 14mm armour...

True but I believe the ones modeled in OFP are indeed based on the humvees used by infantry units which have armored doors and I think the rear cover may be armored.

Im dont see where the bug is on the BRDM, you can shoot the driver and gunner through the windshield/hatch but how is that a bug?

HMWVV and Amor:

The softcover ones (M998, and Cargo/troop carrier) aren't amored, what a statement

whereas the ones with hardcover and heavy doors (the weapon carriers with MG or TOW mount, both versions meaning old and new numbering like M966 M1036) are at least spall protected, however still not bullet proof.

Only Hummer really protected against small arms fire is that upamored thingie based on the heavy duty carriage, as seen in Bosnia and Kosovo.

About BRDM: In combat situations amored shields would be closed over the windshield and the driver would use periscope sights, to be protected, same as with the BTRs.

I'd like to see a turreted BRDM with the BTR turret, designated BRDM2.

S!

The humvees with the doors with the X across them do have bullet proof doors/glass on them. I have an old Jane's Defense Weekly magazine somewhere with advertisements for those doors. They're fairly easy to recognize. They are not of coarse fully armored, but they do provide a significant degree of protection.

But of coarse a dedicated armored scout car like the BDRM is better protected so I agree that perhaps the armor levels of the humvees are a bit high. I also agree that perhaps the armor level of the BRDM in OFP could go up a bit.
