Mahooney 0 Posted October 5, 2003 can we have a few seconds silence to remember those of us (like myself) who have 56k at 2.5kbps. Our prayers go out to them. My they rest in peace whilst the steam driven modem just manages to get up to 1% before it is disconnected for no apparent reason. let your pc idle a couple nights
Eviscerator 0 Posted October 5, 2003 There are many members at BAS that have 56k's and have had to download the tonal/opfor pack multiple times over the last few weeks, so i think two minutes silence is needed for us... If any 56k user does not have a download accelerator/manager then this is a good one to get: http://www.getright.com It will allow you to resume the download even when it disconnects, it even allows you to download through the night and make the computer turn off once its finished. It makes downloading large files a hell of a lot easier.
reedkiller 0 Posted October 5, 2003 hmmm the old modem obviously knows what it is downloading because it has settled at 5.1kbps (althow this usually means i will get a corrupt zip)

m21man 0 Posted October 5, 2003 Heh, heh, I forced my poor little 56k modem into downloading this over one night. Mwuuaahahahaha! This is definitely the best addon that has ever graced my hard drive. Excuse me, but I have to go off and get a couple of hours of sleep before I make any sense.

cassandra 0 Posted October 5, 2003 sigh.. this is very sad.. y does it have to be so big? i cant play with it coz OFP gives me the Green screen and all i have in the folder are bas addons.. so can some one put me out of my missery and tell me how to get passed this so i can play on it this is something I encountered just last night and we couldn't really figure out why this was happening what I did was move all the nampack2 files (except for the sebnam_ia_trang_anim folder, sebnam_ia_trang.pbo and sebnam_obj.pbo) to a folder called.. C:\...\OperationFlashpoint\AddOns\@nampack2\Addons\ then installed kegetys OFPLauncher and created nampack2 mod by options>mods>modname=nam pack 2 and options>mods>moddirectory=@nampack2, I also changed the target executable to the 1.92beta patch from there I can leave out nampack from loading which may have caused problems, but that's complete heresay and I don't think I should be quoted.. it's just what I did before it worked for me. I used to have alot of troubles with ofp in general where I had excessive addons although no immediate problem could be isolated I was experiencing that very green screen where I should be seeing game options and the BIS small desert island all I can say really is, try to make sure every addon is where it is supposed to be and also that you don't have too many addons or duplicates (ie. older versions) good luck
ozanzac 0 Posted October 5, 2003 I don't wanna be seen as wingeing, but, with a future updated release, would it be possible to split the file into smaller components? I say this, because on a 56k modem. A single 115.11 MB download can seem to take an eternity to finish, and if it was split into its individual components, I'd be able to finish say downloading the island, and then install it, then play with it for hours whilist simultaneously downloading the other components, (units, campaign e.t.c) Also, it seems many sites are thus far, reluctant to host such a large file. Perhaps if it was split into it's smaller parts, more people would host the files, and thus, the weight of the file would be more evenly spread. Just a suggestion to help both you out, and those not blessed with cable or satelite connections. Thanks in advance BAS, I look forward to your response. Gollum1 0 Posted October 5, 2003 and i have 1.92 installed Yes, but are you USING 1.92? It´s a different EXE, OFP uses 1.91 by default. Oh and I´ve read all the background for the island, I´m firing it up for the first time in a moment!

Like ebud said once, if even 10 people d/l the pack, and play the missions before checking everything out in editor, watching the vids ect, they will get an excellent ofp experience in unknown land angainst unknown enemy, makes it worth it for us. For 56kers i recommend checking evis post about download mangers. And for any mem mapping probs cassie has said it all, mod folders are good (note the anim folder still needs to stay in res\addons). Any CTD's i would strongly recommend you check everything is installed first, inluding JAM 2. One other note, even when video lag is not apparent, AI calculating thru 100's of objects can realyl bring the cpu down, so keep that in mind "when it lags too much". Places like Tatu being too much is ...strange..considering it runs fine on my celeron 1ghz.
