Lock on: modern air combat

Recommended Posts

Tell me one thing, is this game of any interest to a non-simmer like myself? Does it have a good campaign/story line?

No. The campaigns are an excuse for you to run the gamut of the possible roles that the flyable aircraft would fill in combat. For me that's not a bad thing, but I can see how someone else might be kind of turned off by the sterile presentation. Somewhere on the Lomac forum there's a huge thread on this subject...

the real attraction of the Flanker/LOMAC series is the mission builder. It is very powerful and and once the community has time there will be a ton of great missions.

I wouldn't bet on that.

I've been a FS'er for about 5 years now, and missions are'nt really something that Flight Simmer's tend to share that much. Sure you might get a few oddball missions here and there, but generally FS mission editors are so easy to use to create your own missions, that theres really no point in publishing your mission. Scenarios will get talked about on the forums, then you just create your own mission from there.

Just my view on things. smile_o.gif

Jep the mission editor is easy but basic ... sad_o.gif

Compared to ofp this editor is kinda .. childish and absolutely shallow. Or maybe the ofp editor is that hard i dunno. I guess i grew on the ofp mission editor on time ....

I cant help but plan a mission and thinking about triggers and conditions and syncronising stuff ... damn, too much edited in ofp tounge_o.gif Maybe it s in, but for now, the only thing i found you can manipulate in the waypoints is time, payload and skin of the airplane ... i want more !

Or does anybody know how to put in conditions, like when you attack an airfield the planes only scramble when you get picked up by radar or something ? Hope its in there and i m just not looking good enough.

Cheers

First pick the coalitions and all that good stuff, and hit ok. Then click the silhouette aircraft icon on the top lefthand side of the screen. That should bring up a dialog on the right hand side of the screen that let's you adjust aircraft type, nationality, waypoints, loadout, etc.

I'm basing it on my experience with F1.5 and F2.5. There were/are a ton of missions online.

I saw that 5 minutes ago. Only problem now is that I can't find the A-10, only all the other aircrafts. I thought if I choose USA I'd see the A.10 on the list but I can't sad_o.gif

Shadow,

Here s a quick overview.

Choose coalitions

click on aircraft icon

click on map where you want to place unit

( now the planes are selectable )

Select task of plane, select plane

select loadout and planeskin

done

If you dont click on the map where you want to put it you cant select the aircraft. Stop thinking in ofp editing ways tounge_o.gif

Some good things to know.

If you want an aircraft to start at an airfield click on the runway, in the first waypoint ( waypoint 0 ) select takeoff, now you can select if plane is on the runway or in the hangar ( parking ) - if a hangar is on the airfield -

Same goes with carrier based planes. First put carrier, then select aircraft and click ontop of the aircraft, in waypoint 0 select takeoff.

You can also land choppers on cruisers if they have helipads. Its cool to see a ticondoroga with a seahawk on it smile_o.gif

Landing a plane goes same way, click on the airfield and select land

Inside the waypoint thingy you can select height, speed and time. Time being when that waypoint should be active. Time is calculated also when you add waypoints according to your speed. If you want aircraft to scramble when you are lets say attacking something near an airfield, place some enemy airplanes there, look in your own waypoints near the target and put that time in the waypoint 0 or a bit earlier of the aircraft you want to scramble.

In groundvehicles you can select a few types of ways to move. Offroad, onroad, cone, rank. In onroad they follow the road nicely, cone is nice formation for tanks moving offroad.

Making groups ( flight, tank, ship, etc ) is done by selecting the first plane and then clicking on the the right flight button just under the callsign. Lets say you want to make a flight of 2 A10's with 2 F15 as escort. Select side, click on airfield, choose takeoff, choose parking, click the flight number to 4, go back to 1, select groundstrike task, then A10, do same with 2, make 3 escort and F15, same with 4. Then you can do the payloads. Selecting tasks is good because then it filters the right planes for the task out of all others and also give you some premade loadouts for those planes/tasks.

Now the 4 planes are made you can do the rest of the waypoints, etc ...

Hope this helps a bit, this is as far as i kinda been exploring the editor, but i dont think it allows much more.

Cheers

This is great, JAP.

I must admit, I was kinda thinking the OFP-way  biggrin_o.gif

I was just trying to just put a A-10 on the map and test-fly without anything else on the map.

So the task is what I've been missing in order to choose the A-10 then. Come to think of it. I could'nt see the Su-25 either (same type as the A-10).

Good to know about the mix of F-15s and A-10s. My buddy loves the F-15 and wants to fly escort and A2A-fighting, I love the A-10 and A2G-fighting.

This is going to be one busy weekend biggrin_o.gif

Wow! this editor is simple.

Only thing missing is ghost-cam to ease the placement of objects.

Has anyone found a way to customize your payload after you've loaded the mission or is it impossible?

I have set up a few payload-configs in the mission-editor though.

I did'nt know the F-15 only has AA-weapons.

I thought it had bombs and Mav's too rock.gif

Try checking around for the binoculars tab in the upper right hand portion of the screen: that is the map options table, and there you can change the map from geophysics to satellite view. That should help you out in placing objects. And as for the F-15, only the Echo 'Strike Eagle' has any official AG capability.

This is strange, when I approach for landing, I press G but the landing gear just won't come out  crazy_o.gif Sometimes I can't use flaps either when approaching... wtf? This happens for me with Su-33, and Su-27 too I think.

Found the problem, I was approaching too fast hehe. When you are doing about 450 km/h, it says "Gear down" and you're allowed to let your landing gear down.

Flaps, works sometimes it seems, don't know what I'm doing wrong.

Airbrake, works all the time for me, landing, cruising or combat.

I have'nt had any problems with gear or flaps, but then again I'm only flying the 'Hog which does'nt go that fast.

I must say I'm actually starting to get the hang of using the Mavs now  tounge_o.gif

Now to figure out how to drop only one bomb at a time  biggrin_o.gif

shift + space yep, some weird reason only works part of the time for me

though have to admit im leaning in favour of the A10 at the moment, working through the campaign, not sure how many missions there are but im on the 3rd destroying self propelled artillery(dämn those SA19s being able to double back on themselves! sad_o.gif)
