Quote[/b] ]A terrorist plot has been uncovered to "commit mass murder on an unimaginable scale" by exploding up to nine aircraft in mid-flight between Britain and America, Scotland Yard announced this morning.

So far 21 suspects - believed to be British citizens, many of Pakistani origin - have been arrested under the Terrorism Act 2000 in overnight raids in London, the Thames Valley and Birmingham.

Fantastic work of the various British Security services with assitance from external agencies...

Takes time to find these plots, and think over 90% of the 'plots' are actaully stopped and dont get reported (after all if they had been reported then that in itself is a success of terrorism to cause said terror!! ).

British spirit still lives on... terrorists seem to have forgotten that we (UK) have had a terrorist threat since the 70's and as such treat these disruptions as short term inconveniance's.

Life goes on...

Let's see how long it takes for the British 'justice' system to make a mockery of all the hard work and effort by the security forces. Couple of days and they'll probably be out on bail and shacked up in a cushy hotel suite. icon_rolleyes.gif

Nice to see most travellers were taking the increased security measures in their stride though.

The US government released five menbers of THE EASTERN TURKISTANI SLAMIC MOVEMENT, which had deep relationship with Al Qaeda, from guantanamo, and send them to Albania.

These terrorists made a lot of cases like murdering or bombing in Xinjiang, China, IN OUR COUNTRY!!!!

They were released just because they "had no threat to the security of US".

Did the politicians or media in your countries, which support so-called "freedom of expression", express this to you? I think not.

Now I know why we cannot defeat the terrorists.

@yhk1985

Stop pretending that you know the specifics of their case.  You read about it on the internet and you are so quick to bash the US.  It pisses me off when people are so quick to talk trash about the US just because they read something on the internet.

EDIT: oh and believe me if our media could get something to make our goverment look bad it would be on the news as quickly as they could put it out. People seem to think that our government controls what our media shows. The US media is mostly liberal and they do not like Bush so they take stabs at him every chance they get.

Quote[/b] ]

The whole of Europe faces a "very real" and "persistent" threat from terrorism, the home secretary, John Reid, warned today, as an EU commissioner called for a crackdown on extremist websites.

Mr Reid warned that the threat was "not unique to the UK" and required a consistent approach to tackle the threat across Europe.

Flanked by the French interior minister, Nicolas Sarkozy, and German interior minister, Wolfgang Schäuble, Mr Reid told reporters: "It's very important that the measures that are taken in one country are reflected in other countries because we want equal security for all our countries."

Good god if it turns out they didnt have any evidence on those suspected terrorists, they will start blaming the judicidial branch faster than one can say "separation of powers."

Hi all

*** Breaking News***

A woman of Pakistani origin was arrested at a US Airport on an internal flight while attempting to bring on liquid containers that have tested positive for explosives.

Quote[/b] ]US airport in 'explosives' alert

An airport terminal in Huntington, West Virginia has been evacuated after explosives tests on two containers in a woman's luggage came up positive.

The containers were seen in the woman's hand luggage and subjected to swab tests and sniffer dog examinations, both of which gave positive results.

Officials say the woman is of Pakistani origin and was travelling on a one-way ticket to Charlotte, North Carolina.

She has been detained and is now being questioned by FBI officials.

'Highly sensitive'

Tri-State Airport director Larry Salyers said he was told the woman was a 28-year-old who had moved to Huntington from Jackson, Michigan.

He did not know how long she had lived in Huntington.

The containers have been moved to a remote area by robot for further tests, he said.

Chris Yates from Jane's Aviation told the BBC that both the swab and sniffer dog tests were extremely sensitive.

The likelihood that a container that had not come into contact with explosives would come up positive on both tests was extremely low, he said...

I have not seen this on US media yet.

Terrorists may have started opting to target internal US flights as the security is weaker. All the 9/11 flights were internal  I seem to remember.

Watch your backs people

Passengers taken off plane for speaking Arabic

Apperently speaking Arabic and being unable to find your seat are now grounds for taking you off a plane for questioning.

Only last night i watched a film called 'Flight Plan' where a situation similiar this occured on the flight. Good to see hollywoood is keeping things realistic... sad_o.gif

Also on a related note, on Fox News yesterday there was a short story about how drinks were being banned from a football match somewhere in America for security thumbs-up.gif I cant find the story on the internet though so i dont know the details.

I'd like to see some DEMOCRACY brought to Ikea. Particularly the one in London on the North Circular - whoever designed the layout had serious issues with humanity. Two 500lbs blobs of DEMOCRACY would probably do it.

And don't forget to bring some Western Enlightenmentâ„¢ to the depot around the corner, where one has to pick up large items.

Eleven charged over 'bomb plot'

Eleven people have been charged in connection with an alleged plot to blow up several transatlantic airliners.

Eight have been charged with conspiracy to murder and preparing acts of terrorism.

Two are accused of failing to disclose information and a 17-year-old faces a charge of possessing articles useful to a person preparing acts of terrorism.

One woman has been freed without charge and eleven people remain in custody, the Crown Prosecution Service said.

Ahmed Abdullah Ali, Tanvir Hussain, Umar Islam, Arafat Waheed Khan, Assad Ali Sarwar, Adam Khatib, Ibrahim Savant and Waheed Zaman are all charged with conspiracy to murder and with preparing acts of terrorism under section five of the Terrorism Act 2006.

The Met's Deputy Assistant Commissioner Peter Clarke told journalists bomb making equipment, including chemicals and electrical components, had been found during the investigation into the alleged plot.

He added a number of video recordings known as "martyrdom videos" had also been recovered.

Mr Clarke said: "I would like to reassure the public that we are doing everything we can to keep you safe so that you can live your lives without being in constant fear.

"The threat from terrorism is real. It is here, it is deadly and it is enduring.

"As we all look for explanations, we cannot afford to be complacent and ignore the reality of what we face".

He added:

"However the investigation is far from complete. The scale is immense, inquiries will span the globe.

"The enormity of the alleged plot will be matched only by our determination to follow every lead and line of inquiry."

An initial 24 people were arrested following police raids in Walthamstow, east London, High Wycombe in Buckinghamshire and Birmingham on 10 August.

Security at airports was increased, causing widespread flight cancellations in the UK for several days.

Scotland Yard said that those charged would appear at City of Westminster Magistrates' Court in London on Tuesday.

'Immense' investigation

Mr Clarke said the investigation of the material seized by police was likely to take months.

In a highly unusual development, Mr Clarke went into significant detail about the evidence so far uncovered by police inquiries. These included:

> 69 searches of houses, flats and business premises, vehicles and open spaces

> Searches had found more than 400 computers, 200 mobile telephones and 8,000 computer media items such as memory sticks, CDs and DVDs

> Police experts have removed 6,000 gigabytes of data from the seized computers

> Bomb making equipment, including chemicals and electrical components seized, police say

> A number of video recordings recovered.

At the news conference, Susan Hemming, head of the Crown Prosecution Service Counter Terrorism Division, said she had been working with Scotland Yard officers for the past eight days.

"We have been carefully examining and assessing the evidence against each individual with the assistance of anti-terrorist officers in order to come to charging decisions at the earliest practicable opportunity."

She added that the position of the 11 people still in custody would be "assessed on a regular basis".

"We cannot yet make a decision about whether further charges will follow or if a further application for detention will be made on Wednesday, as the evidential picture is continuously developing."
