Bluesman 0 Posted September 14, 2003 Anyone saw that rolling demo on X2 The threat? All I can say is wow, that demo sold the game to me. The scene where the protagonist watches a battle from his own built space station is breathtaking, similary the construction scenes where your home built station is put together is also incredible. What intrigues me is that it seems just as much a grand strategic game as a typical space sim. Controlling vast fleets of battleships, fighter launches. It sounds like a sci fi opera novel to me. On paper this looks to be the true sequel to ELITE and a concellation on the dissapointment i felt with Freelancer. Any testers with more info? BM

Bluesman 0 Posted September 14, 2003 Gamershell.com has a fast download too. It's not often you can say that you have waited for a sequel for 20 years . I know Elite2 exists but it was dissapointing. BM
NurEinMensch 0 Posted September 14, 2003 Google banned in Germany?  Official site - click downloads I just got pwned  edit: Ok I watched the demo and what can I say, I'm impressed! Do I understand it right, it has a FPS-like part too where you walk around inside a space station? (And float into space when it gets blown apart )

(And float into space when it gets blown apart  ) From what I've read you can walk around (or at least check out) various compartments in your space stations or battleships. No actual FPS elements though (unless you count the ship to ship fighting which involves first person shooting) BM
RED 0 Posted September 14, 2003 Looks great, I had hours of fun playing Elite on my old BBC Micro. And yes I agree, Elite 2 was a big disapointment. RED
Bluesman 0 Posted September 14, 2003 Looks great, I had hours of fun playing Elite on my old BBC Micro. And yes I agree, Elite 2 was a big disapointment. RED For me it was ZX Spectrum . I almost expect an ambitious game like this to have initial bugs and problems but in this case It might be worth it. The feature list is staggering to say the least. Btw. I found this GREAT and I mean GREAT beta report diary on actionvault. It litterally made drool(ok not exactly). Awesome to read. It reads like a Sci Fi novella, the writing style itself is among the best I've read, not your average "preview" so to speak. http://actionvault.ign.com/features/den/x2betarept13.shtml A little taste on how it reads; "Ahh... The Condor, how striking she looked as she approached. I took advantage of the close proximity and opened up my two suit monitors, taking control of the ship in one and viewing its exterior in the other. Bringing her closer so I could step inside, take my seat on the bridge physically instead of virtually, and remove this uncomfortable suit. Six turrets, Hornet-class missiles, Gamma HEPT lasers (although I hadn't found enough to fit into all the turrets and they currently held lesser weapons). A painfully slow 126 m/s top speed, but my favourite two statistics - a cargo bay of 6,900 and a hangar capable of holding 60 ships! " BM

hellfish6 7 Posted September 16, 2003 It certainly looks nice, but even this unplayable demo kinda dragged on my system... You guys ever played EV:Override?
Baron Hurlothrumbo IIX 0 Posted September 16, 2003 I have played EV Nova, which was very good.
Bluesman 0 Posted September 18, 2003 It certainly looks nice, but even this unplayable demo kinda dragged on my system... You guys ever played EV:Override? Did you use the "benchmarking"? It apparently slows down the system (due to some tests it makes). You could send your results to the developers since they are collecting items. I tried up to 1280x1024 and the only time I got problems was when the shadows were enabled. I admit I was sold by that actionvault diary. Great writer but I found an even better novel (does this game attract good writers?) in the forum but due to rules I can't link directly to the forum but the thread is called "Traders tale Chapter 18" with links to earlier chapters in the thread. I printed the entire story and read it like a mini space opera in my bed, that's how good it was . (www.egosoft.com for forum) Actionvault put up new screens today btw. They look stunning to say the least. I hate finding out about a game so early, it's horrible to sit and wait for news . http://actionvault.ign.com/features/media/x2screens.shtml BM
